Brown Wrong About Electric Cars 9 Apr 2009 (News)
Internal Combustion engines are at their most efficient (far more efficient in converting energy to motion than electric motors) when they do a lot of miles. They are at their least efficient and least environmentally friendly on short runs, and especially short runs from cold that cause all sorts of problems. Worst are diesel engined cars with advanced emissions control systems such as particulate filters. Many people on the Disablilty Mobility allowance get themselves an Internal Combustion engined car and use it for very short runs of up to 1,000 - 2,000 miles a year. -

He worked for Tony Lee and the two became close friends so it was fitting to welcome him as our guest speaker. The Bullet Run was a different type of event on the Triumph calendar and proved popular – so much so that the TRDC is looking to organize another Bullet Run next year. -

In 2008 the ‘new’ Georges Richard was driven by HRH The Duke of Kent who, following a short driving lesson around the Kensington Palace grounds, successfully reached the Seafront in Brighton. As well as being Sir Ray’s 50th start, the 2013 Veteran Car Run is also the 20th successive Run supported by his Tindle Newspaper Group – the business he set up after wartime service with the Devonshire Regiment after buying his first title – the Tooting & Balham Gazette – with his £250 demob payment. -
Goodwood Revival 2014 to keep Britain's motoring history on track 20 Aug 2014 (News)
Visitors to this year’s Goodwood Revival will being doing their bit to keep one of Britain’s most iconic Grand Prix cars running. Goodwood has named the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu as this year’s beneficiary – and money raised will go towards making sure a 1950 BRM V16 Type 15 remains in running order for future generations. -
Drivers told to cut out their own tax discs 2 Sep 2014 (News)
A DVLA spokesman said: “Tax discs can be expensive to produce and we have always planned to run down stocks in the run up to 1 October. “To make sure we deliver the best possible savings to the taxpayer we have not procured more stock for these last few weeks, and will instead print the remaining discs in house.” By abolishing the paper disc, the DVLA claims it will save more than £10 million each year, while making it easier for vehicle owners to tax or SORN a vehicle. -
Goodwood announces strong line-up for supercar run 12 Jun 2012 (News)
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, which runs from 28 June - 1 July) has announced that 60 entries will take to the hill this year in the Supercar Run, including some that have never been seen before. Cars set to make their world and/or UK dynamic debuts will include the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Vitesse, Infiniti EMERG-e, Bentley Continental GT Speed, Maserati GranTurismo Sport, and many others. A number of UK debuts will also take place in the First Glance class at Goodwood, with brand new models located on the Cricket Pitch, and expected to include the new Toyota GT-86, Savage Rivale, Vauxhall Astra VXR and Infiniti FX Vettel (Sebastian Vettel himself on Saturday 30 June). -
4 in 10 drivers are running on dangerously uninflated tyres 12 Jan 2018 (News)
Running a car with tyres underinflated by 7PSI decreases fuel efficiency by about one mile per gallon. If average fuel consumption is assumed to be 45 miles per gallon on correctly inflated tyres, and average distance driven is 7,500 miles a year, motorists on 7PSI underinflated tyres are using on average 17.2 litres of fuel a year unnecessarily. -

Blue Bird celebrates 90th anniversary record 28 Jul 2015 (News)
Hundreds of spectators made the trip to Pendine Sands to see a commemorative run of the iconic 350hp Sunbeam, nicknamed 'Blue Bird'. The event took place 90 years after Sir Malcolm Campbell set the World Land Speed Record of 150mph. The National Motor Museum marked the anniversary with a low-speed demonstration run in the restored Sunbeam, with Sir Malcolm’s grandson Don Wales at the wheel. -

It was going to enter series production at a cost of arond £700,000 but thanks to the world economic climate the production run was cancelled. However Jaguar had still put extensive work into preparing the car for production - the car appearing at Goodwood features a 1.6-litre petrol engine rather than gas turbines. -

Fuel duty rise 'should be ditched' 23 Mar 2009 (News)

Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Next-generation Toyota Prius makes first appearance 15 Sep 2015 (News)
The all-new Toyota Prius has made its first appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show . The next-generation car runs on a new platform, which makes for a more practical and spacious cabin. Prices should start at around £25,000. Despite running on a new platform, the 1.8-litre hybrid system is carried over from the outgoing Prius, albeit revised to improve economy. -
Jaguar first with DRL dimming indicators 23 Jul 2011 (News)
Graeme Roberts of just-auto.com has reminded me of something I missed in my test of the Jaguar XF 2.2 diesel, and indeed in all 2012 MY Jaguar XFs The 'J blade' LED Daytime Running Lights incorporated into the headlight lenses dim when the indicators are being used. Can't say if this is a 'first'. But it certainly overcomes criticism that DRLs can mask turn indicators and cause crashes that would not otherwise have happened.
