  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 2000 1.9 ltr Automatic fuel consumption 19 May 2008 (Forum)
(Stamped service record book only, no bills) I am concerned re fuel consumption. It does only about 23mpg with no city driving involved. I did a motorway run of 300 miles which averaged about 30 mpg. Could anyone please tell me if this is about right? If not what could be the problem? (I do drive sensibly)
  • Car written off - time to buy a new one 27 Mar 2008 (Forum)
My Peugeot 207 was written off last week (drunk driver steered into it whilst parked). I must say, I never really liked the car - sluggish and a bit like driving a tank. (1.4 model). Anyway, I don't have a huge budget (probably around 8k) and want to get something fairly new. A year old would suffice. Has anyone got any suggestions? I need something reliable, and fairly nice to drive.
  • What cheap two wheeler? 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
But that model is no longer available. Could you please suggest some reasonably priced options? I think one can drive two wheelers with a learner license. Thanx
  • London Congestion Tax 31 Dec 2007 (Forum)
slightly off thread, but near enough (hopefully)... i read in your column yesterday a letter from a Land Rover 90 driving chap in N. London worried about the Greater London Pollution Zone (or whatever it is) due to come in 2010... do you know what vehicles this will affect? I've seen signs that relate to Goods Vehicles etc, but a Land Rover 90 is getting horribly nearer a normal car in my mind... and as I drive an 8 yr old 3 litre petrol car that i'm planning on keeping, i'm getting a tad worried...is Red Ken after me?
  • MOT and Insurance question. 27 Oct 2007 (Forum)
What would the BiB have had to say if we had been caught? Would we have been done for driving without insurance? All hypothetical now as the car had an MOT this afternoon. Moved from IHAQ as its legitimately motoring related.
  • BMW 1 Series E81/E87 (2004 - ) - Starting after long period standing 21 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I have been in hospital for 5 weeks and as I am the only driver my car, a BMW120d, about 12 months old, has been standing in my drive. I am now home from hospital and may be able to drive in a week or so. Could you advise me what is the best way to get the car ready and what to be checked before I take the car on the road. Thankyou Corrected poster's error at his request

  • advice on buying diesel, NOT ford tdci! 1 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I have a 52 plate 20l tdci mondeo with 78000 on the clock. I've had 3 different injectors reprogrammed in 5 months and i'm now reluctant to drive it in case the glow plug light comes on! I love the car, but it might as well be a pile of scrap metal as i'm too scared to take it off the drive! Is common rail technology still in the experimental stage or is it just the tdci.
  • LPG vs Diesel 18 May 2007 (Forum)
What I really want to know is how good or bad it is to drive an LPG car comapred to a diesel one on motorways. Also if LGP could achieve such remarkable MPG then why aren't manufacturers pre-fitting them on their cars?
  • S-Max vs Verso 16 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know which we should buy?! Does anyone know of any common faults with either of them? Which is nicer to drive? We will be doing mainly town driving with a few long jouneys throuhout each year. Any advice greatly received! Thanks, Georgie
  • Parking Question 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Simple question, neighbour has a hardstanding in front of his house that he uses to park his car, no drop kerb or drive etc, just bumps over the kerb (carefully) and drives over the small grassed area to access his hardstanding, I have been told that as there is no 'official' drop kerb that if anyone wishes to park in front of his house he has no legal basis to complain, is this correct?
  • New to RWD, any tips? 17 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I understand snow is bad news but should I think about changing how I drive? Any experience or advice, as ever, much appreciated Lee. -- You know, it\'s not like changing toothpaste
  • Ford Fiesta TDCI 7 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Could anyone tell me if the 1.4 TDCI engine in a 2002 Fiesta is belt driven or has a timing chain? I have looked all over the internet and have not had any luck. I'll be test driving one tomorrow that has 130,000 miles on it so, naturally enough, I was wondering about the belt/chain situation. The trader wants £3295 for it and it only has a partial service history. I had a look at it today and my gut feeling was that it was in a fair and honest condition but if anyone can tell me particular things to watch for during the test drive I'd be very grateful for the information.

  • Exhaust life 3 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I own a Y-reg ford Ka which has done just over 41k miles & is still on it's original system despite being used for a mixture of trips. -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
  • No more a Corsa-Driver 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Yep, thats it, Corsa that served me so well over the last 18 months has gone to a new home- a family who have bought it for their son to learn to drive in. Am now the proud owner of a 53 plate SEAT Ibiza 1.2 3-cyl and its fantastic- lots more toys and nicer to drive even though its a cylinder down on the Corsa. I have one question though- how much power should air-con sap?

  • too many different models? 10 Aug 2005 (Forum)
This, apparently, is causing difficulties for dealers because they may not be able to show the customer the model he is interested in, let alone let him test drive it. Any dealers (Blue Haddock?) out there want to comment on how they are finding it? (And how many people per year do you get wanting to test drive a Yaris Verso?)
  • speedo fault 635csi 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I've switched the speedo closk unit for another with no effect so I assume its is either the cable drive on the gearbox drive. Any ideas? Where does the cable meet the gearbox on this car? many thanks
