Audi TT - 18 mths old - corroded disks 23 Feb 2006 (Forum)
An Audi TT with 14K on the clock has corroded front disks - not worn but rusted and as such give grinding noises. According to the Audi dealer who sold the car the disks are not covered by warranty but will need to be paid for - disks and fitting inc VAT = £200 approx - the existing pads are fine and not needing replaced - the car is not thashed but driven as one would expect from a performance car. -
Valuation required 4 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I know there are the guides for prices, but I was looking to get a 'real life' indication from you guys on what money I should be looking for on my wifes car. Looks like we could end up trading it in as she can't do without a car (work needs)... Car is a Vauxhall Corsa 1999 on a 'V' plate. 1.2 16v Club. 5dr in Silver.. very nice car and has covered 25k miles. -
Cheapest car rental I've ever had (USA) 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Well, Just booked a rental car for use while in Arizona for a couple of days. Got a rate of $14.97 per day from Travelocity. Cant beat that but I understand that they usually get you on the insurances/CDW etc. Fortunately my US issued credit cards cover me for all that nonsense if I use the card to pay for the car. -
GAP insurance - worth it? 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
What do you all think? Recently collected new car (MR2, it's lovely!) and the salesman is pushing GAP insurance. I won't bore you with the details but the car is effectively not financed and Tesco will replace the car like-for-like if written off within 12 months. -
Car for 1000 miles a week 1 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I'm considering getting a car to do a 1000 mile a week commute until a new house is purchased. Current ideas are Pegeot 405 diesel or Citroen ZX diesel - early 90s for under a grand. I don't want to spend more than £1000 but it would be an advantage if it had some resale value or could tow a 1000 kg trailer / car combo. -

Renault Laguna TimingBelt/Steering Probs 23 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Our problem though, is that a problem developed with the power steering too. Steering was fine until car stopped when the belt went, but it couldn't be steered during tow home and fluid leaked from car thereafter. Garage says two hoses have gone and it's going to cost £400 for repair bill, as this problem has nothing to do with belt failure. -
Toyota RAV4 - Advice on Part-Exchanging My 2008 Honda CR-V for a 24 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Hi all! We're in the process of buying our first second-hand car and could really use some advice. We've put down a refundable deposit on a 2017 Toyota RAV4 2.5 VVT-i Excel AWD with 48,000 miles on the clock (in grey). The car is priced at £17,500. We visited the dealer to inspect the car and found a few issues: - There are some chips and paintwork problems, plus a bit of rust on the metal step to get into the car. -
Any - After market warranties. 6 Sep 2017 (Forum)
About eight years ago, I bought an aftermarket mechanical breakdown warranty to cover our car and have had it ever since. Over that time it's probably cost me 2 grand in premiums, and I’ve claimed on two occasions, for different cars, a total of about 100 quid after deduction of the excess of £75. -

Peugeot 207 SW - Smell from ventilation system 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Noticed a stagnent water smell when first using the car in the morning mostly. A/C was due for recharge so had this done and deodoriser put through system which appeared to sort the problem as the deoderiser covered the odour. Now had the cabin filters changed as the smell is evident even when the A/C is not switched on. -
2003 Ford Escort Hatchback - Boot lid will not stay open. 27 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I was abroad for 3 months and left my car covered up. It started first time, the only problem I noticed was the hatchback will not stay open. I assume it is meant to be held open by the 2 pistons attached to the hatchback. It seems strange that both would malfunction at the same time.
