  • An Easter DIY oil change? 3 Apr 2010 (Forum)
You know - to be sure it`s done right and so that you can lay in bed visualizing clear golden oil - nectar of the gods - floating the crankshaft and so on. A tub of Mobil 1 (bought at discount last Autumn) is handy and circa £10 for a filter spun by Italian craftsmen out of the finest material.

  • Drink driving penalties harsher in the past? 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I picked up a little book on motoring printed by Autocar way back - interesting info on road tax, insurance costs etc. in the 1940's. I was particularly struck by a statement that at that time (1949) the fine for being drunk in charge of a car was £50, which is not remarkable, but what did seem odd was a note that a life disqualification and 6 months jail had often been added to the fine.
  • KIA Cee'd (2007 - 2010) - Kia Ceed car value ? 7 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi everyone. My daughter bought a new Kia Ceed s 5 door for a total price £9300 December 2008,on finance. She has done about 13000 miles in it. She is now realising that it is tough to make the payments and is thinking of selling it and buying an old banger.
  • Old cars, modern fluids. 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
To sort out a debate we had in the office today. Are modern fuels and oils beneficial for old cars? If a common pushrod engine from the mid 60?s (Ford Zephyr for example) were to be completely rebuilt as original and then run using synthetic oil and modern fuel (with lead replacement additives if required), would it fare much better now, mile for mile than it would have when it was new?
  • Tyres - BN rating 6 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I've been looking at eBay, and a lot of new 'BN' rated tyres are coming up very cheap, such as these: http://tinyurl.com/y9awu8q I can't find what this designation means. Any ideas? I'm also open to suggestions as to which brand and pattern would be best. M & S are NOT permitted. There's an awful lot available: http://tinyurl.com/yar87m9

the washer pump is not working but the wipers are, im told they run off the same fuse so i need to change the pump. It is a cannister approx 10' tall, located under the o/s/f wheel mudflap i think? Is this easy to change, and why does it look different and much bigger than all the pics of washer pumps on ebay?

  • Double-yellow delight 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Therefore, if you need to stop for a few minutes you do the counter-intuitive thing and park on the yellow even when the resident?s bays are empty. Is it me that's mad?
  • Right hand gear change 1 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Whilst pressing the gearchange is fine the hooking motion is a problem. When I owned a bike back in the early 70's it had a right hand gearchange. Is it just classics that have this or are any bikes made this way around as standard or an option?
  • Registration Docs Query 4 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Before ring them, does anyone know roughly how long it would take. I?m just worried that possibly I?m driving a car that technically in the DVLA?s eyes does not belong to me. Many Thanks
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.8 Boot Lock 3 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I've read somewhere, and I can't recall where, that it's just a microswitch that needs replacing instead of the Ford option which is the complete unit at £££'s. Has anyone any experience of replacing the microswitch and is it the type of thing I'm likely to find in Maplins?

  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - C Class reliability 8 May 2009 (Forum)
I've heard good things about the performance of the 3.0 diesel but I'm worried about overall reliability. Did things improve towards the end of the W203's production. The car I'm thinking of has about 36K on the clock. Anyone know anything about this car?
  • Rear tyre wear 3 May 2009 (Forum)
My car has recently had it?s first MOT at the main dealership, as part of the service they did a check of all of the fluid levels and gave me a report on the tyre tread depth all round. I found it interesting to note that although I have a front wheel drive diesel the rear tyres have worn slightly more than the fronts, I was expecting it to be the other way around, the difference was only 0.5mm, is this a sign of something or just normal running?
  • The AEC's that built the M25 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
http://aec.middx.net/frames/framephotos1.htm Does anyone remember the huge fleet of ancient red AEC tippers that worked on the construction of the M25 in the 1980's? I used to see them working everyday and it always facinated me how they kept going judging by the heavy punishment they used to take. Anyway I came across this excellent site, and thought some of the pictures might be of interest to some.

  • Front coil spring replacement 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Had full 4-wheel steering geometry checked and realigned in early Feb. Mid March had f/n/s coil spring failure, so followed Vx recommendation and had both sides replaced. [see other posting on this matter] Should the repairing garage - Vx dealer - have had the geometry re-done/checked? The tyre specialist where the geometry check was done, said 'certainly' The VX garage said not necessary . . .
