Selling at auction 21 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The m-i-l needs a car in a hurry. Her current car is old, leggy and has now developed a gearbox fault (pops out of 5th). She had thought of going the trade-in route but I've persuaded her to let me source something from BCA Blackbushe. -
Seen any of these older cars recently? 29 Aug 2004 (Forum)
talking to my mate recently about the number of Mark 2 Golfs that are still on the road. Can't say the same for these relatively old but not ancient models: - Fiat Stradas (hand built by Robots) Fiat 127s (car of the year 1977 ish) Fiat Mirafioris (superb 2.0 twin cam) Yugo Samaras (with a Fiat Tipo engine) Alfasuds (?) Co-incidentally a mustard Austin Maxi went past my house last night. -

Power Steering 20 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Hello Most cars these days have power steering but few have effective PS at manouvering speed. My 4 yr old BMW 318 falls into this category. This wasn\'t an issue when I bought the car but thanks to the progress of my arthritis, it is now. -

How many miles do you have to do 20 Jan 2004 (Forum)
to make buying a diesel car worthwhile in an economic sense? We do around 12K a year and buy used at 2/3 years old and I can't see the virtue on going over to a diesel. I have done a few sums and can't make the diesel car pay its way. higher purchase prices are not ofset by fuel savings unless you keep the car for ten years, which is unlikely Even buying new the same seems to apply. -
Rain X 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Made an exception and used fairly concentrated washing up liquid on the screen. Never get any 'wash 'n' wax' type car shampoo near the screen. Miss it on my 'new' car. Going to put it on as soon as it's dry one day. -
Golf MkIV, losing power 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
There was no murmur whatsoever from the engine to suggest that it was cutting out; one moment it was there, the next it wasn't. I was able coast the car to the kerb, switch on the hazards, and switch the key to off. I restarted first time, with the car behaving perfectly normally, and no warning lights displaying. The car is in the VW garage at the moment, but I guess they won't be able to do much if they can't replicate the error. -
Starting from cold 5 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I went to the car and sure enough it would not start untill I floored the accelerator. What is the cause of this. I will not do it again! Cheers Peter PS I only admitted it might be my fault when she said it was getting old (P reg) and perhaps should be got rid of! -
Colour affecting resale value 4 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Here's one for you all which I can't find on old threads or from anywhere like Parkers price guide. I have heard it mentioned several times in the past that car colour can and understandably affect resale value to a degree. Is there anywhere I can find out how this might be expected to affect the resale value on a new car I was contemplating? -
New voltage for cars 24 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Caravans have quite complex 12 volt systems for lighting, battery charging, and fridges etc. and there are probably other trailers that derive power from the host vehicle. British cars use the 12N and 12S trailer sockets and the Germans have developed a 13 pin DIN standard, but I wonder what will happen when we have to marry new to old. I can't see it being as straightforward as putting new bulbs in. -
Dacia Sandero TCe90 2021 vs Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDi 2 2018 12 May 2021 (Forum)
I am in the market for buying my first ever car for work starting in September. I currently ride a motorcycle but I think until I get my own place I will stick with just a car for practicality reasons. I am looking for a smaller car to get around at the moment - I have no children; won't be carrying much in the car and will only occasionally give friends/family lifts, so the benefits of a larger car would be wasted on me! -
ford focus - Particles, Catalitic converters, DPF's, Diesel??? 9 Jul 2011 (Forum)
As diesels are getting cleaner, the technology is getting more complicated and pointing people to petrol cars that do not have any filters fitted (PM's). If manufacturers are so comitted to low emissions how is it that I cannot buy a Ford Focus without air con ( uses 8% more fuel) and told by most enonomy drivers to turn off and it adds £500 to car. -
It's muscle car time again 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
A grateful HMG is also coughing up a princely sum these days by way of old age pension waiting to be spent on something. I hate being called a "Senior Citizen", especially since I have no interest in needlework or golf and much prefer "Old Age Pensioner". This allows one to come from nowhere and both surprise and annoy others 10 years younger with disap;p;roving wives who would far prefer one to act old so that it doesn't show them up. -

Any - Slow puncture - leaking at beading 27 Aug 2023 (Forum)
When I asked what had been found after the repair at the tyre centre, they stated it had been leaking at the beading. First time I've heard of this - both bikes and cars on tubeless tyres in more than 50 years on the road. I recall hitting a big pothole recently on a very badly lit road and assume it was this that caused the leak. Lucky I have "old fashioned" 45 section tyres or it could have been a broken wheel. -
Mercedes Hybrid - Mercedes owner faced with £15k bill for battery 30 Jan 2022 (Forum)
https://globalcirculate.com/mercedes-benz-new-battery-price-in-knighton-leicester-is-expensive/ Following on from the Tesla owner who blew his eight year old car up rather than pay £20 k for a new battery here is a story closer to home . I understand that Toyota Prius have a better reputation than this and given the heavy use they take as their life as taxis I’m sure this is the case ! -
Peugeot 106 MK1 1.5 1995 - Clutch cable adjustable? 23 Dec 2019 (Forum)
End nearest clutch (under battery) has a threaded end section. Clutch is very flat to floor in car but clutch is not old, approx 3-4 years and low miles. Can't assess if cable is poorly fitted, worn out or needs adjustment. Is a base model 95' 1.5D. Guidance greatly appreciated as always -
