Polo MPI Master Cylinder 1 Jun 2005 (Forum)
hi, I have a problem with a brake servo on a 2001 Polo MPI 1.0. The brake pedal feels as if it being 'sucked in' to the bulhead but responds ok when it is pulled back up by foot. Does it require a very expensive master cyclinder. Any tips as to how to approach this job? -

Clio indicator problem 10 May 2005 (Forum)
Signalling left is fine but when you signal right the indicator works ok until you put your foot on the brake pedal and it stops working. Take your foot off the brake and it works again. Any ideas? -
Weird Lights - Renault Scenic 27 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have an S reg Renault Scenic. I've noticed recently that when the brake lights are on and I indicate left, the left brake light flashes gently lighter and dimmer in time with the indicator light. And when the side lights are on it gets worse. Lights work normally when I indicate right. -

Car + Water = Distaster? 23 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Howdy all, I've just had to drive through a 2 foot 'puddle' of water. I remembered to brake whilst driving to dry the brakes out but is there anything else I should check? The car drove fine after the puddle by the way. Sounds stupid but you know me! Many thanks A Wet Adam -- Adam -
Garage won't release car 24 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Our car (Peugeot 306)has just failed its MOT. One of the points it failed on was the front brakes they say that one of the discs is cracked in two places. The garage say that they consider the car unsafe to drive and have a legal obligation to not allow it to leave until the brakes have been fixed. -
Asbestos free clutches? 4 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The introduction of asbestos free brake linings is a commonly given as a reason why brake discs now have a significantly shorter life than before. The thought that went through my mind was, assuming that clutch linings would also now be asbestos free, what effect has this had on flywheel wear (and cost at clutch replacement time)? -
P 306 XSI 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Just had the "wallet botherer" serviced at the Peugeot specialist (a savage bill resulted) which included inspection for brake pad wear. Not a day went past but the orange "brake wear" light comes on on the dash (sporadically). Is this sensor prone to false/conservative readings or should I have a quiet word in the technician's shell-like? -

My 306 needed new discs at 72000 mile service and at about 80000 miles I started to get severe break judder. Dealer changed discs under warranty but now... -

Skoda Fabia - Skoda Fabia frequent brake discs and pads problems 28 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I hve a 55 plate Skoda Fabia classic 1.2 petrol. Over the past 3-4 years it has repeatedly needed the brake pads and discs replacing. It starts with a grinding noise on the brakes when you first set off - especially after rain (my car is kept on the road) and once of twice it has felt like they have locked and car lurches before moving. -
Why's my Opel Omega pulling to the left when I brake? 27 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
I have a left-hand drive 2003 Opel Omega which has done 50,000 miles. I have owned the car from new and it has been dealer maintained. In March 2010, upon... -
vauxhall brakes 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Apparently they all do this, and no one else has noticed and they sell them by the hundred! I refuse to believe that anyone in his right mind would design a brake system to do this - quite apart from the safety and lack of confidence aspects, how can drivers control braking properly if the pedal keeps moving down - and what happens in a high speed stop, when the pedal hits the end of travel - inevitably taking some of the availble foot pressure - before the car stops? -
New brakes overheating - Citroen ZX 9 Aug 2006 (Forum)
(Also rear cylinders and shoes as these were poor.) The other day I had a loss of braking efficiency and a smell of friction material after coming down a big hill. I'd used a low gear to control speed but still had to brake fairly firmly behind a slow caravan. After parking shortly afterwards, I found that the offside front was very hot, considerably hotter than the nearside. -
RAV4 XT-R - Mot pass but with Monitor and repair 12 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Pass Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories) Shock absorbers has light misting of oil Offside Rear {5.3.2 (b)} Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (rear brake pipes covered in grease) {1.1.11 (c)} (under trays fitted obscuring some underside components ) I am rather worried about the corroded brake pipes bit. -
Is this car clocked? 18 May 2021 (Forum)
On the RAC website. It says brake pads can last anywhere between 30,000 and 70,000. Is it reasonable to assume this car has been clocked? -
Ford Fiesta - Squealing / squeaking tyres or brake discs? 6 Dec 2020 (Forum)
My car has recently exhibited these sounds, similar to nails down a blackboard. I'm aware that if brake pads are on their way out, it can create similar whistling sounds to give a warning to replace. However, I've initially only noticed this screeching noise when moving off from standing, but disappears once into third/fourth gears. -
Cars with electric parking brakes - Another hurdle for DIYers 2 Mar 2020 (Forum)
My 2005 Audi A8 is in need of new brake pads. On U-tube the fronts look as easy to do as any other pad change, but the rears apparently need electronic deactivation of the EPB otherwise you knacker the mechanism when winding back the caliper pistons.
