  • Changing brand of oil - bmw 525d 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I purchased the car in January just after the warranty expired and would like to carry out more frequent oil changes, about every 5k. It is a modern 2.5l common rail turbo diesel with 55k on the clock. Can I use fully synthetic oil of viscosity rating 5w/40, but of a cheaper brand, without causing any problems??

Still flashing. Back to dealer they say no pressure in engine when at idle speed ok when being driven and revs up high.
  • Am i paranoid about oil changes 30 May 2004 (Forum)
Where do i draw the line on oil changes Keeping in mind that cold starts do the most damage to car engines and to the deterioration of engine oil Two scenarios for comparison, both VW Polo 1.4 TDI PD Both bought new Service Schedule and Cost First Year /10000 miles (Oil change only) £85 Second Year/20000 miles (Oil change/service) £150 Third Year /30000 miles (Oil change only) £85 Forth Year /40000 miles (Oil change/service) £250 Mr Pensioner (me) My car is garaged and is used on average three times a week for round trips of not less than 15 miles and two trips from Sheffield to Scarborough each year.
  • Combo Van /06 / 1.3D - Oil Gushing From Oil Filter Cap after Oil Change w 20 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hi To All Changed the oil twice before in my 06 / 1.3 diesel Combo Van and all went well. This time I started it up and the 2.5 liters gushed out in like 5 sec. I immediately shut down and thought I had not tighten the plastic oil filter cover, I kicked myself.
  • VW oil level too high 28 Jul 2025 (Forum)
I suspect it was overfilled inadvertently when being topped up. He hasn't had oil changed for 10 months so I will advise him to either ask VW to drain some out or change the oil and the filter a few weeks earlier than the 12 month service period is due. BUT-Bearing in mind no warning lights are showing -should he just leave it for a few weeks?
  • Citroen C3 Picasso - Pros and cons of using oil-change pump? 18 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I notice Lidl's are selling oil change pumps for £10 (where's everyone gone?) so was wondering about using one of these instead. What are people's experience of using them? Pros and cons? I guess one 'con' will be if you are not sure that the pick-up pipe is genuinely at the bottom of the sump, so it might not remove as much oil as it could?
  • VW Crafter 2007 - VW Crafter, Turbo gone 14 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Hi my Turbo has gone on my Crafter, which I have changed, I have also changed the oil pump but there is no oil going round to check the oil pressure?  Any ideas what to do?
  • Peugeot 307 - Flickering oil light, changed oil pressure switch 2 Oct 2012 (Forum)
We took it back to the dealership whom said they were sure it was the oil pressure switch, as they could see oil coming out of it.  Had it there today, had a new switch put in, they said there was a fair amount of oil that was seeping out the old one.
  • 3 year Audi servicing deal is not what it appears 29 Jul 2009 (Forum)
If you are a low mileage driver the default oil change interval is 2 years , so once again you will not get 2 changes. Interestingly when I asked the cost of an oil change it was £150 and if done at the same time as the "inspection sevice", which is the prefered option by most, the total cost comes to .....£250.

  • 2001 VW Golf TDI IV Diesel - Garage says oil plug is stuck 28 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Hello, I took my car into the French equivalent of Kwik Fit (I recenttly moved to France) to get the oil changed and they have told me there is no way they can remove the oil plug to replace the oil because the plug is stuck. They told me to take it to a VW dealership, but I am puzzled why (and they did not speakl enough english to be able to explain why) because the last oil change according to the service history was just at a generic garage.
  • Astra L reg 1.6SE oil change 16 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Could someone set me straight on this please? I've just changed the oil on my 1.6 Astra 8v engine. When putting the oil in I made sure it was spot on the max mark - started the engine, let the oil circulate and checked again - it was two inches OVER the max mark.
  • Toyota Yaris 1.0 Gearbox oil 19 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I'm Still naving problems with the gearchange on the Yaris when cold. 1st-2nd and 2nd to 3rd are very chrunchy. This problem started when I changed the gear oil for Toyota 75w-90 gear oil. The dealer eventually changed the oil for Shell Donax TA (ATF) which made a big difference but the poor gearchange when cold remains A friend has reccomended Red Line MT90.

  • Ford Focus 1.6 (2002) - 8 Year Service 3 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi All, Most independant garages will change the oil, spark plugs, air filter every year during the service and will charge around £130 (which is still pretty good value).   However some garages offer the oil change and the checks (interim service) for £65.

  • mercedes slk230 servicing 13 May 2007 (Forum)
On a 4 year old car (when services due would be dashboard indicated) does anyone know if simply changing the oil and filter would provoke a "service due" light due to the change in cleanliness of the oil? I am a fan of frequent oil changes but see little point if my efforts to look after the car cause the light to come on; it is my intention to have the main service done by mercedes.
  • Mondeo gearbox oil changing 28 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have an 'S' reg diesel manual estate that has done 120000 miles now so feel a change of oil is due. Am I right in thinking that the box is refilled through the level plug on the front face of the 'box? Can see no other way. What is the best way to do this please, squeezy bottle and a rubber pipe maybee?
  • Gearbox oil change - Renault Kangoo 15 Nov 2006 (Forum)
We own a Kangoo which is just out of warranty as a "doggy waggon" and intend to keep it as long as possible. I was thinking of changing the gearbox oil at 40k intervals but am unsure about what to use. Renault only specify a particular Elf brew or would a good synthetic brew with to GL5 standard of the same be a better bet? I have used Ovoline synthetic in my Land-Rover box with very good results.
  • Where Can I Get My Oil Changed (Diesel) 22 Feb 2005 (Forum)
National tyres do cheap oil changes for cars, do you know anywhere that does a similar deal for diessel cars (hdi picasso) i used to do it myself but it was always on petrol cars, then with the national deal it wasnt worth doing it yourself just take it there every year. does anyone have any ideas who does a similar sort of thing
