  Afternoon all, I have a quick query regarding coolant. My level's very low, in fact it doesn't even reach the resevoir. I know that mixing coolants can be serious and cause quick corrosion, so what would be the best course of action. I have some Bluecol Universal but really don't want to make matters worse.

  Hi all, 1st post...Ive just had my 108,000 mile Golf Estate from its 1st 10k service in my ownership. I'd asked the Indy VW garage to look at a coolant leak I had (loss of coolant once the engine was warmed up). They've come back to me saying that the car needs a new pump and radiator costing £260 plus VAT in total . I'm not totally 100% with car and was wondering what people thought ?

  I was topping up oil and water yesterday on my Alfa GTA for my impending holiday, when I noticed a sand coloured deposit at the bottom of the coolant tank. I immediately checked under the oil filler cap, and dipstick, both of which were pristine. This deposit does not float on the top of the water, so I think its unlikely to be oil. The blue coloured coolant water appears very clean, and also smells normal (antifreeze).

  Hi, whenever I start the car first thing in the morning the coolant indicator beeps and then starts flashing - it's done this for a while now but as it goes off after a while I haven't done anything about it. The coolant level is fine. Someone looked at the car yesterday and suggested it might be the head gasket that is on it's way out as the coolant smelt musty.

  Hi My Scenic 1.6 manual shed most of its coolant yesterday on a relatively short run (15 miles). Temp light came on. Limped home stop/start avoiding major damage. On inspection, coolant is dripping onto road through round hole in plate underneath engine.

  We have a 99 V70 tdi (the old vw 5 cylinder diesel). We keep getting coolant loss, but its irregular. The car will be fine for ages then suddenly lose maybe a pint of coolant. There are no obvious leaks anywhere. hoses seem OK. In about 18months I have had to top it up 4 times.

  My washer level warning light cmae on today so I thought I'd top it up when I got home. While filling it up I glanced across at the coolant reservoir and, like you do, tentatively touched the side of it and to my surprise it was stone cold! My journey home is 15 miles of moving at 40-70mph, no traffic jams :)and the coolant temperature gauge got to the normal level.

  Hi,  My kia sorrento was losing coolant, main dealer diagnosed that the radiator was corroded and I replaced it. Got it back and noticed coolant reservoir was dropping. Noticed coolant around radiator cap then saw that the overflow tube from the radiator cap had snapped and tube leading back to reservoir dangling.

  She has owned the car for 6 years without  this problem, therefore we are doubting that the coolant level issue is the correct diagnosis, also the coolant level never alters. We are of the opinion that the fault lies in the dashboard somewhere and the buzzer is really getting to her.
