Could pressing the wrong pedal have caused these old ladies to crash their automatic cars? 22 Oct 2010 (Ask HJ)

Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 05 loud squealing - steering or brakes ? 10 Sep 2007 (Forum)
(My dealer isn't local so 'popping in' isn't possible) Now the service is due and it's starting to get worse - it's squealing for a fair amount of any journey now, but still seems to be louder when steering to the left. I'd never associated the noise with the brakes before , but tonight it started making a similar noise when braking. Now I can tell at a glance the state of the pads on my Focus, but the pads on the Mazda are obscured by the rest of the brake components so I can't tell easily - I might have to take the wheels off to get a good look at them. -
Golf service 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I have just received quite a nasty call. I had said that the clutch was feeling a bit vague. £590! Anything else, I ask. New front brakes £230 And? New ariel - £123 And? Noisy rear brakes. £68 to deglaze them and clear away the break dust. And? Movement in the suspension arms (IIRC - too upset at this stage). About £200 Now the coat hangar is working fine and can stay in place as can the noisy brakes. -
Kia Sportage - Is faulty Electronic Parking Brake an MOT fail? 10 Sep 2022 (Forum)
Our 69 plate Sportage has a faulty Electronic Parking Brake (it doesnt seem to engage and not does the light come on). We took it in around June and the dealer has told us it's fine to drive but the parts may take some time to arrive ( as of today they still don't know). -
Visually ensuring car will not roll 23 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Now, in a car with non-traditional/monostable shifter, where it always returns to base position after any operation AND with electronic parking brake, how do you get the confidence that after you have left the car it won't start rolling accidentally? What happens with electronic parking brake if battery goes flat? Does it release the brake or keep it locked? -
Mazda CX5 - Brake Disc Cost 15 Apr 2021 (Forum)
So my Mazda CX5 failed its MOT on the brake discs and said they needed replacing. I was quoted approx 330 for this (using official Mazda parts) - I said that I would prefer not to use Mazda parts and that would hopefully reduce the costs. -
VW Golf TSI MK7 - Brake disc dirt protector 28 Jul 2020 (Forum)
After hearing a rattling noise coming from my front wheel, I took the wheel off and found the metal plate that sits behind brake disc had come loose. I removed the part and even though some say that it’s not important, it has to be there for a reason I would assume. I have received several quotes on who can fix my car and all are over £300. -
Ford Focus MK1 saloon 1.8 - Back Plate or Hub Nut 16 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I need to check the brake shoes and normally I remove the 4 bolts on the brake shoes back plate. However, I find removing the bolts really awkward and slow due to the restricted space. So I'm prepared to buy a torque wrench (230NM capable) for the hub nut and remove that instead. -

Audi S3 Quattro - Brake judder 22 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I have a 65 plate, 25k miles S3 and wonder if anyone has experienced the same problem. Periodically, there is a noise from the rear when braking which sound as though you are driving over painted lines across the road. It does not happen all the time and the Dealer has looked at it twice and declared "No fault found" The rear discs are not wearing smooth like the fronts but they are pitted and have some small grooves. -
Honda Stream - How do brakes suddenly seize? 19 Sep 2018 (Forum)
But within the last weeks I noticed a burning smell and then the other day there was actually smoke coming from one wheel. So it went to my trusted Indy garage and their verdict is that both front brakes are seized and we need new discs + calipers + pads. Ouch! I wonder what I could have done, if anything, to have foreseen or prevented this problem. The car did have full service history and recent MOT when we bought it. -
Controlling an automatic slow speed 16 Oct 2017 (Forum)
To Garage my car, manual gearbox, I electrically fully retract my wing mirrors, swing to the right entering my drive and square up to my garage door frame and stop short. Then using slipping clutch, bit of accelerator, maybe touch of foot brake I creep foward into the narrow garage opening up to and close to the wall ahead, brake to a stop, switch off , leave in gear ,release brake. Contemplating as to how I could control an inch forward with an automatic cvt can someone advise me in detail how I could this and how to inch the vehicle forward undercontrol and without colliding with garage door frame/wall?. -
Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi 2004 - eye level brake light not working 19 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Hi I have had my Focus for a couple of years now and since i have had it everything seems to be alright. But I have noticed recently that my eye level brake light is not working. Now I have read a couple of posts on various sites and they said to check the fuse and if thats ok check the cabling on the boot lid. Simple enough wouldnt you think? But where is the blessed fuse for the light? -
Citroen C5 HDI '06' reg. - Hard brake pedal on 1st start up of the day 26 Jul 2014 (Forum)
So, I get in the car for the first time that day, start her up and the brake pedal is rock hard. Sometimes, if I wait long enough, it sorts itself out. But usually I have to turn it off, restart and wait a while. When in this state, if I drive off, I have very little power from the engine. -
Nissan Vanette Cargo 2001 - Replacing corroded brake pipes - how complicated? 11 Jul 2011 (Forum)
My van has failed it's MOT on the copper/nickel brake pipes (all of them!) and I am considering doing the job myself. I am a plumber by trade so know my way around a bit of copper and am contemplating doing this myself. Aside of the pipe itself, a flaring tool and the correct unions do I need anything else?
