Recent issues raised 10 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I do not have any desire to suppress discussions but whether we like it or not we need to reflect on what finances the website. I know some people disliked the phrase "anti-EV" I used, so let's describe them as threads that are not portraying EV in a positive light. I think some people are still struggling with the difference between the content of these threads and the number of them. -
Ford Ranger - Getting Messed around by Dealer 9 Aug 2023 (Forum)
I bought a second hand vehicle (2017 plate) from a dealer and took out their offer of a two year extended warranty for peace of mind. I took finance of £5k and paid the balance of £15k myself. A few months after ownership it became apparent that there was an issue with the coolant mysteriously ‘disappearing’. I first noticed it 4 months after taking ownership, didn’t report it to the garage I purchased from but had the system re-pressurised/filled and all seemed well for a while. -
Mazda 3 & battery / tracker issues 13 Jul 2023 (Forum)
It had gone to Mazda for investigation multiple times but they couldn't find anything. Eventually he complained to the finance company who agreed a full refund and compensation. Meanwhile, Mazda found the problem(s)..... A tracker fitted to the vehicle. Apparently, AC had bought a load of Mazdas, given them to a leasing company who had fitted trackers to them and later returned them to AC, but they hadn't removed the trackers or told AC about them (apparently). -
Skoda Fabia Estate - New car advice 6 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Other thing is, as currently I'm living away from my friends and family and have no one who can help me with car advice so I'm really not comfortable in trusting used car's dealers, it would be really easy to screw me over with anything really. So I think my only option is either to get a new car with PCP finance, or get a 2-3 years old from official dealers, as it's checked by their service and with some guarantee right? What would you advice, especially when it comes to that skoda or other recommended by you car? -
Alfa Romeo MiTo - Thoughts on Buying Privately 26 May 2019 (Forum)
It was then she said I have a receipt that shows I paid in full. I asked to see it but told her that didn't prove there wasn't outstanding finance on the car. The receipt was nothing more than a hand written piece of paper. Her name wasn't on it, the price wasn't on it. No headed paper, no vat reg number, nothing you'd expect from a dealer receipt. -
Ford Focus Zetec - ECU failure not covered by warranty 21 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I am appalled that Ford mis-informed me about the warranty situation, and that we have had to finance over £3,700 worth of repairs to a vehicle that is less than 4 years old and has less than 32,000 miles on the clock. It appears, however, that this is not a isolated case with Focus Zetecs…. -
Focus/Astra n/a 1.6 Petrol: Really useless? 11 Nov 2015 (Forum)
If we can't get the engine and spec we want the plan B will be either of the 1.6 petrols from Ford or Vauxhall/Opel in estate form as they are considerably cheaper than other options and shouldn't be a problem to finance with the more than decent deposit we have. Used would end up costing the same per month and would be 4-5 years old at the youngest and I do worry about how they have been treated (I see the kind of cars we're interested in being properly thrashed all the time). -
Ford Fiesta Titanium X - Full payment requested weeks before collection 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I was happy that things were muddling along until yesterday when I got an email from my local nameless dealer (suffice to say, they are large) saying that I needed to go in, finalise the finance paperwork (they've already done the proposal and that's been accepted - for a very small amount so I only went down this route to get the savings) and pay the full balance BEFORE even seeing the car. -

Problem getting a resonable price newish van MPV 6 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Some may think my principles are wrong to refuse to pay more than £10 grand for a vehicle which is no more than a van with seats, but im astonished at some of the manufacturer mark ups and the unwillingness of dealers who are more interested in a finance deal than straight cash. I anyone can reccomend any offers/dealers/advice then please do so. We are in need of a second car and I dont want to have to take out a short term rental. I did try a renault dealership regarding the new kangoo and they offered £250 of list price, also im not convinced about the durability of the kangoo van. -
Ford Fiesta (2009 - ) - Help need on this deal from Ford 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Ford has offered me this deal out of the blue and I have been thinking ever since. I have a 16 month old Fiesta Zetec Climate (3 Door). I bought my car on Passport finance scheme and pay £170 per month. The scheme works in such a way that you pay £170 per month for 34 months and at the end you get a guaranteed future value, which is around £2900. At the end of the term, you can either clear off this and keep the car or refinance the amount, or give the car away to Ford altogether (provided it is in decent condition) Now, I have already made a payment of 16months and got remaining 18months to pay before I reach the guaranteed future value part. -
Advice on my next car 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
No desire for a convertible, MPV or four wheel drive. I want to buy second hand as I don't really have a large budget to finance the replacement, maybe £2,000-£3,000 max. I really dislike mini-mpvs, especially a hire car Vauxhall that leaked oil over the new drive a couple of years ago. Before I get the chequebook out for the cam belt, I would welcome any wisdom you might share in choosing a replacement car, should I go down that path. -
Learners buying brand new cars - why? 15 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I think my car is a perfect balance as it has 3 star NCAP (not great but that awful either) all the electrics, PAS etc but I have not invested too much capital into it either. I think I am very lucky to have a car which don't tend my finances, yes insurance is £50 a month and I spend around £50 a month on repairs but a new car would cost me at least £200 a month. My dad just keeps going on about how I am spoilt with my 10 year old car because his first car only ran on 3 cylinders, needed 1 litre of oil a week, had no brakes etc etc. -
Volkswagen T5 Caravelle (2003 - ) - Scam or Legit 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
First let me say that the car is available for 9200 GBP,the car is in perfect conditions ,no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage,no engine problems, no hidden defects, the car has not sustained any damage whatsoever. The interior is in like new condition and has never been smoked in. There is no outstanding finance on the car. The car is still UK registered, the problem is that at this moment I am located in Germany for the next 3 months because I've just started a new business here with an old friend of mine.
