  The new firm don’t offer a company car, only an allowance, in this case £400 per month, (pre tax) with business mileage reimbursed at a rate I think being 12p per mile for the business use. The question is what’s the best way of financing the new car, used? Pre reg? Leased? and what should the replacement be? I could spend up to £17-18k but hopefully less and would need to change the car once it was 6 years old due to company rules.

  I asked if I should test drive one they had here and he said no we can get this one in. I then said I would want finance and so he did all the credit chequers to see if I was eligible and I was. I signed some paperwork but again said if I sign all this that dos not mean I was definately getting this car. He said not.

  Car dealers spot me, see me coming and add an extra £1000 on, no doubt. When I was 18 I bought a Renault Clio (used) 1.2 for £6,000. Plus £2,000 for the privilege of a finance option. I didn't even query it - I just walked in and signed on the dotted line. Many years later, after finally paying it off and being in a good financial position, I'm looking to upgrade. I have done some research and the car I'm going to go for is definitely a Golf.

  I am supposed to be going to the dealership tomorrow to fill in any paperwork and to pay (I am paying cash, no financing) and collect the car. The only issue is that they have told me that there will be a delay of several hours from me signing the paperwork (including the sales invoice/contract) until I can pay and take the car away.

  I know that they enjoy certain advantages due to their charitable status. However my first car through Motability was financed through VW Financial Services on the same terms as I get now and I am fairly confident that their motives were not entirely charitable. Finally I thought of buying a low-mileage second-hand car using some savings which I am fortunate now to have as a deposit, using my Disability Living Allowance to pay instalments, insurance and servicing over 4-5 years and then keeping it for a further 4-5 years allowing me then to blow my Allowance on riotous living.

  I bought a second hand vehicle (2017 plate) from a dealer and took out their offer of a two year extended warranty for peace of mind. I took finance of £5k and paid the balance of £15k myself. A few months after ownership it became apparent that there was an issue with the coolant mysteriously ‘disappearing’. I first noticed it 4 months after taking ownership, didn’t report it to the garage I purchased from but had the system re-pressurised/filled and all seemed well for a while.

    It had gone to Mazda for investigation multiple times but they couldn't find anything.  Eventually  he complained to the finance company who agreed a full refund and compensation.  Meanwhile, Mazda found the problem(s)..... A tracker fitted to the vehicle. Apparently, AC had bought a load of Mazdas, given them to a leasing company who had fitted trackers to them and later returned them to AC, but they hadn't removed the trackers or told AC about them (apparently).

    Other thing is, as currently I'm living away from my friends and family and have no one who can help me with car advice so I'm really not comfortable in trusting used car's dealers, it would be really easy to screw me over with anything really.   It was then she said I have a receipt that shows I paid in full. I asked to see it but told her that didn't prove there wasn't outstanding finance on the car. The receipt was nothing more than a hand written piece of paper. Her name wasn't on it, the price wasn't on it. No headed paper, no vat reg number, nothing you'd expect from a dealer receipt.

  If we can't get the engine and spec we want the plan B will be either of the 1.6 petrols from Ford or Vauxhall/Opel in estate form as they are considerably cheaper than other options and shouldn't be a problem to finance with the more than decent deposit we have. Used would end up costing the same per month and would be 4-5 years old at the youngest and I do worry about how they have been treated (I see the kind of cars we're interested in being properly thrashed all the time).

   I was happy that things were muddling along until yesterday when I got an email from my local nameless dealer (suffice to say, they are large) saying that I needed to go in, finalise the finance paperwork (they've already done the proposal and that's been accepted - for a very small amount so I only went down this route to get the savings) and pay the full balance BEFORE even seeing the car.
