Don't judge a..... 27 Jul 2003 (Forum)
;) Whatever, you get the gist.. I look like I'd be all girly and drive some so called hairdresser type car - but I'm not, and I don't (unless it suits to play that card sometimes to fob someone off "oooh no, I really couldn't make a decision on buying that lovely double glazing, you'd need to talk to my husband") Anyway, once, I had a car to drive (through work) that had been worked on by a team of apprentices - amazing paint job, would get you noticed wherever you were, chrome exhaust, even a chrome engine. -
Shogun discs 22 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Anyhow, after about a week, I consult the Mitsy dealer over a few niggly bits which we all suffer after buying a used car (dont we?) and they were more than happy (as usual) to get the car in and put it right for me. One of the complaints was a very slight brake shudder at high speeds (braking from 70mph), they inform me (after initial inspection) that they want it back to skim the discs next week. -
Astra H 1.6 petrol - Should I have my Repairs done? 8 May 2023 (Forum)
For maintenance purposes I’m also having the water pump, thermostat valve, coolant drain and refil, aux belt, rocker cover gasket, oil change and filters. I service it myself every 5k miles. My repairs will be quite costly so I’m pretty sure I will have it done because the car has never let me down yet. I do 15,000 miles a year in it for work. -
Volvo XC90 2008 - 44k engine blown - Mapfre Warranty not paying 14 Dec 2020 (Forum)
The car is within its "5-star warranty" with Mapfre Abraxas, who have had an engineer to inspect the damage...but the outcome is that they will not take the claim. They say that the damage is due to "low oil or heavily carbonised oil" and that this is not covered. -
Advice with a Parking Fine/ Magistrates Court 30 Jul 2018 (Forum)
This feels like extortion, but I dont want to risk having to pay £1000. I've tried contacting solicitors in the towns nearby and none cover parking litigation, so any helpful advice is highly appreciated. thanks SA@SG4 -
Bin lorries - is the driver allowed to leave cab? 14 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Had a google on the legality of this, with conflicting results 1) The engine of the bin lorry has to be on for the compactor and hydraulics to work 2) There is a safety switch at the rear to cut the engine if needed 3) The law that says its illegal to leave a car unattended and running is not applicable to vehicles that require the engine to be running for loading/processing purposes, eg. refuse lorry, skip mover, cherry picker etc. I accept 3) in principle, but not so sure the safety aspect is adequately covered in the 'use case' of bin lorries, where they're stop-starting down a road, without parking, every 2 mins. -
first impressions of my new Volvo XC60 D4 Auto 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Especially our planned long trip through Europe this summer pulling a caravan; that should reveal lots about living with the car. Cheers Concrete -
Car Insurance Quotes - Value of repairs 13 Mar 2017 (Forum)
This might be a daft question but here goes. Over the past 5 years me and my wife (who is a named driver on my insurance) have had a few, all non-fault... -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 2005 - Broken Suspension Coil and Misc Problems 10 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Waiting for dealer opening today to see what the total damage/cost will be. AA recovery guy reckons that warranty probably will not cover. Considered replacing the car in Feb - wished I had done now! MrB {year added to subject line, as per 3 separate asked requests} -
Dacia Sandero 1.2 Ambience - Spare Wheel/Tyre 17 May 2016 (Forum)
I have to say that I have been impressed with it and have had fun driving it (a low power 1.2 petrol vs. my old 2.0d x-type). When my car goes to the big scrappy in the sky I fancy one of these. He didn't get the 'emergency' spare wheel (£100+), but got the standard compressor and jar of glue (as useful as SFA IMHO). Nothing to do with me, except that we live in rural West Wales and my grand-daughters (4 & 6) are often in the car. -
Nissan Micra (2003 - 2010) - 06 1.2 - Engine Malfunction 2 Jan 2013 (Forum)
On my way home last night the engine seemed to be slightly less nippy than usual, and at one or two points, without applying any extra pressure to the accelerator, the car sped up slightly on its own. I noticed that the rev needle at some points was "quivering" a bit. It was very windy outside though, so perhaps I was imagining things. But this morning, the car drove fine to work but the engine light came on the display. -
KIA Ceed 2L diesel Sport 3 years old 33,000 miles - No accelerator - loss of power - engine stops 23 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I wonder if it’s an engine management problem that they will fix it and say it was fuel line and charge me as that isn’t covered by the warranty. If it’s not possible to be engine management then I can always take it to someone much nearer. Many thanks< William -
BMW 3-Series E46 - Stupid mistake! Topped up with mineral oil 22 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Kept a watchful eye for the rest of the journey and everything was fine. All was fine on the return journey. Then the next day when I was washing the car I noticed that there was an oily residue on the boot. I then looked under the car and noticed a lot of oil! I brought it to a mechanic and he took off the sump cover but there didnt seem to be any issue. -
Dealing with an insurance claim - help please. 13 May 2009 (Forum)
A supermarket delivery van driver tried to squeeze through the gap between my vehicle and oncoming traffic. I looked in my door mirror and watched the van getting closer until it struck my car, gouging deep furrows in the o/s of the rear bumper and lesser furrows in the o/s/r wing paintwork and damaging the door mirror. As I was struck, I gave a loud, sustained blast on my horn as this van scraped down the side of my car. -
Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 2007 Hatchback - boot rattle!! 4 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hope I've put this in right place new to this Bought an 07 Mondeo edge hatchback in Feb 08 (love mondeos) a few weeks after getting it a persistant rattle developed from the boot after many miles of sitting in the boot/ back seat (whilst partner drove) found that if I pushed up on boot lid behind nearside rear seat the rattle stopped so took car to dealer who sent a technician for a drive with me who confirmed that was the point of rattle they greased the damper mounts and sent me on my way, unfortunately the rattle remained so back it went after a short arguement about trim not being covered under warrenty if car a year old they agreed to change the damper this was done and within 5 miles of the dealer the rattle was back, after checking my gap insurance to confirm the write off value I stripped the line out of the boot most os the side lining and part of the roof desperately searching for a loose cable / bolt spanner that had been left in somewhere to no avail. -
AA Warranty - How to cancel 2 Apr 2008 (Forum)
We've had a AA Warranty on our car since we purchased since 2002. We have recently sold the car. I telephoned the AA to cancel and because it was least renewed in March 2007 and we made a claim shortly after we have to pay the installments to March 2009! -

Cycle Carriers 11 Jun 2005 (Forum)
However cons are trying to lift 4 bikes over my head onto the roof of my car without causing damage to me or the car. 2. Tow bar mounted Pros - I feel these are a lot stronger and you can also get ones that swivel out of the way to allow access to the hatch. However, at this moment in time, I do not have a towbar though am seriously considering getting one as my dad has a trailer which I would probably use more; trips to dump etc if I had a towbar. -
Witches Only-All Others Will Be Toad 5 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Each toad averages the size of a size 10 boot and has no road sense at all, so that each journey down my street in the car is a series of squelches. By mid-day next day with the heat of the sun there are a large number of dessicated corpses about 1/2" thick being toyed with by stray dogs. Should I: (a) contact the local witches' coven for help - the witch community here is very active; Growlette is one herself; (b) try to summon up some ethical reason why I shouldn't drive and walk to the pub in my wellies instead while navigating armies of leaping toads; (nope, strike THAT one); (c) think positively how leathery toad skins can be recycled to give millions of people gainful employment at US$0.25 a day making handbags to be sold in Hong Kong to European tourists for hundreds of dollars under designer names like House of Toad; or key rings, or cigarette lighter covers, or Filofaxes; (d) start a contest with the neighbours to see how many toads each of us can nab in our cars between here and the end of the street.
