  • BMW316 Carburettor Solex 2BE??? 12 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I`m looking for diagram , details and explanation for the carburettor and all the associated parts for with the carburettor system fitted to a 1988 BMW 316. I believe that it is a Solex 2BE. My son is visiting for Easter and is having problems with intermittent lumpy acceleration and suspects that it might be an unidentified unit that seems to be an equivalent of an accelerator pump....but is having difficulty deciphering how it works.
  • Top Gear Magazine - What on Earth 7 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Ivor Carroll gone and a load of kids and feminists writing tosh. Definitely a gap in the market for a car magazine that covers Peruda Nippa (?) upto BMW 5 Series and no higher.
  • Depreciation - Winners & Losers 22 Jan 2004 (Forum)
In the latest survey by Alliance & Leicester the 3 series BMW comes out top with the lowest depreciation over 3 years losing just 29.8%. It was good to see the Rover 75 in 5th position, losing only 34.2% over the 3 year period. Bottom was the Renault Laguna which lost a massive 68.9%, followed closely by the Nissan Primera and Ford Mondeo, which both lost over 66%.
  • C5 - rain sensors 10 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Mine didn't turn off soon enough after short showers so I had them de-activated and forgot all about them. But a friend with a new BMW swears by them so now my wife wants me to get ours activated again although I reckon they're a bit gimmicky. Thanks for all advice about my mirrors too, I got them to sort of work, but I have to 'wake them up' every morning first.
  • Woo hoo!! New baby in the family! 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Wow!!! We've got a BMW Z4! :-) Arranged a little surprise for my dad at work, he didn't have a clue it was coming! Anyway, fantastic car, lovely sounding V6 engine, loads of toys, and we love it to bits. Even has James Bond style run flat tyres, even a stinger can't stop us now!
  • Disposable Cars? 30 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Anyway with all of this technology going into cars, it will be worthless to buy a second hand car which is older than a few years. For example, the new BMW 5 series, comes, I think with drive by wire, how much will this cost to replace if, sorry when the unit goes wrong? The list goes on. Conspiracy to make us all buy new cars? Apologies for anyone who isn't interested in running old cars.
  • labour rates 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
hi, ive just picked up my bmw from my local main dealers bodyshop which had carried out a major repair and noticed that the labour rate charged to the insurers was £25 /hr this contrasts with a labour rate of over £60/hr i was recently charged for a inspection 2 service at the same premises on asking why i was told this was "normal motor trade pratice"???!!
  • Which tyre brand is better? 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I wonder if anyone of you saw the recent article in the AUTOCAR (last week I think), where they tested a number of tyre brands (Michellin, Pirelli, Goodyear, Continental) on a Mondeo and a BMW M3, under a variety of conditions. On this particular test, Pirellis and Dunlops were much better compared to Michellins on the Mondeo, and on the Beemer other brands were no match to the Pirellis.
  • Series III Jag XJ12 4 Oct 2002 (Forum)
At it\'s launch, the XJ was voted the best saloon in the world. certainly the new one {out next year} is the best looking saloon in the world. I see nothing from BMW or Merc that would be more worthy of the XJ\'s first tile? [sigh] ......snip........ Paul, There is a joke thread, if you must post the schoolboy stuff, please do it there. Mark.
  • Omega 2.5TDi cambelt and Manual 8 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone know how to obtain a workshop manual for the 2.5 TDi BMW engined omega. I have contacted Haynes who say they only produce one for the petrol version and they are not planning on producing one for the diesel. I want to change the timing belt (1996 model with 78K on the clock).
  • 5 series or A6 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I am hoping to buy either a BMW 5 series or an Audi A6 up to four years old with around 60,000 miles, or thereabout. I don't do a lot of miles (around 10,000 a year), hence I think I will be quite satisfied with petrol engined cars, ie. 520/523 and 1.8T respectively.
  • AA 'BuyaCar' site 24 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Selected the manufacturers list, and attempted to scroll to Honda, only to find that 'what you see is what you get..' The only manufacturers supported are: BMW, Fiat, Ford, M-B, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, Vauxhall and VW. -no Honda. (or any other make) Seems a bit limited to me. Can anyone recommend a good site for low mileage secondhand vehicles, from personal experience?
  • Driving an automatic 20 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I've just replaced my 91 BMW 320 16 valve manual with a 93 320 24 valve automatic transmission. This is my first automatic and I have immediately noticed both poorer performance at low speeds and overall much higher petrol consumption.
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - Physical Auction House - Ethics? 19 Jun 2019 (Forum)
I recently attended a Physical Auction where i had my eye on a BMW 3 series that according to the Autotrader Pricing Tool was coming in nicely on my budget; Private Sale £7,480 Part Ex £6,340  The Auction was pretty quiet and some of the early stuff seemed to be going through pretty low, so i thought my luck might be in.
  • Selective BL marque revival - your ideas? 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Some other small sports cars would be good, too - a new Spitfire to take on the MX-5, a TR4 to rival the BMW Z4. Clearly, no separate chassis construction would be used this time round! Riley? Erm... build BMW 1- and 3-series rivals? A bit more space than in the 1, though. Nice RWD handling that needn't cost too much.
  • Motorway driving 25 Nov 2004 (Forum)
BMWs are *way* down the list. And even when a BMW is a pain, its a 3 rather than a 5. Next to the Astra and Focus I think that Omegas and Audis are pretty frequent. I use cruise control a lot - therefore I am sure that most of the time my speed is constant.
  • Toyota. - Are Toyotas more expensive to insure ? 19 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I think I kew that Lexus might be more premium and a bit nickable  and hence dearer to insure but didn't realise Tyotas were seen as vulnerable. Clearly a Landrover is seen as desirable to thieves and probably stuff like like BMW, but I thought Toyota was pretty ordinary in the scheme of things.
  • Mercedes-Benz E250 CDI 5 dr - What do most people buy after an E-Class estate? 26 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hello, I'm interested to learn what drivers on here move on to after having owned an E Class Mercedes Estate? Is it another Estate or SUV? Is it an Audi, BMW, Land Rover/Range Rover (which model?) or something completely different like a Bentley or a Tesla? I would be very interested to know as it may well influence my next purchase. Thanks Bazomis
