  Having decided to follow HJ's advice on changing oil frequently, I'd like to know whether frequency of changes should be determined by mileage or time. If I do 12,000 miles a year, but 6000 of those in the first 4 months, should I change after the 6000, or after 6 months?

  I am thinking about buying some engine flush to add to my next oil change, the car I have just bought seems to have missed oil changes for the past year or two. The dealer did an oil change but already after a week it is turning black with dirt. Forte seems to be a quality flush product, is it worth it or better to do more frequent oil changes every 3k and let the oil clean things out using detergents?

  I have a 58 plate Mazda 6 2.0L Diesel. I have had the dreaded dpf light come on and took it to the Mazda dealer. They advised changing the oil and filter and regenerating the dpf. I opted to change the oil and filter myself and return it for them to them to do the regeneration. Having changed the oil and filter, the car will now not turn over.

  Hi, My 2005 Suzuki Alto has been standing unused for 3 months. I drove it today and the oil light came on (started flashing at first then stayed on constantly). The oil level was correct so I changed the oil and filter as it was nearly due an oil change anyway. I took it for a drive but the oil light stayed on.
