  In one of my my business incarnations I run a lettings agency. The manager drives a Mini, but that will soon depart and we need to source a less expensive pool car which will be used not only for her but other staff to go out to doing inspections etc.

  This compares with 32mpg earlier in the week on a trip from a return trip to Lancs - > Cambridge. The Mazda 6 2L petrol I owned previously would only do about 38mpg on a run. I shall update the 'real-life' mpg. Who says big petrol engines are expensive to run (if you ignore the £465/yr road tax...) ? Stu

  Hi new to this site Im stuck on a problem with my car,the car starts and runs fine but every now and then it ticks over lumpy for a a while roughly 10-15 mins some times only 5 mins mainly when its warmed up. Then it cures itself!!!! Ive changed the fuel filter and had the injectors drip tested but no luck curing it.

  I know that car manufacturers arrange very extreme conditions when they are calculating running costs for their new cars but I am really fed up with the consumption on my new multiair 1450 Guilietta! One of my main reasons to buy this beautiful car was to have fun as well as a sensible consumption.The best I can get on combined , really steady driving in calm conditions on fairly empty road, with me alone in the car is 30.2mpg!
• Peugeot 306 LX 1.4 petrol - Fuel pump noise 28 Oct 2012 (Forum)
  During the last few days we have become aware of our fuel pump. I am not sure if it has got louder or if it should be cutting out. It runs momentarily prior to the engine starting but once started it appears to run continuously. Is this normal? It is most noticeable during idle. The car appears to function OK but we are concerned about the the extra noise and if it is indicative of a serious problem.

  I have renewed the leakoff pipes, and when she is running pulls like a train. Has 185,000 on the clock, so just run in..... I was told that these engines perform best with original Peugeot filters only, the replacements I used were NOT could this be a fact , or just fiction.

  It runs OK but it's starting to show signs of age - cutting out after starting occasionally, even less power than it used to have. I'm worried it might be about to enter a period of expensive failures. But it's been a very reliable machine and the total cost of owning and running it has been really low.

    The Polo felt very flexible and long-legged, easily sailing up hills often in 5th gear, but the Ibiza is sometimes down to 3rd gear for same uphill speed. I just wonder if the ECU is programmed with a "running in" algorithm so that the engine never  labours in too high a gear for the first 1000 miles or so after which it will become easier to drive. Anyone else had similar experience?

  Bit of a strange one this so I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on it I have a 306 HDi that at face value wont start, if however I feed a static 12v feed to the pump which at the moment is via the cigar lighter socket it starts and runs perfectly everytime and whilst running I have voltage at the plug for the pump But if I put the plug back into the pump it turns over but wont start which doesnt seem to make much sense Could this be something as silly as the seal between the LP pump and the fuel tank letting air in, and running the pump constantly via the cigar lighter socket prior to ignition is compensating in some way for the poor seal?

  hi, i have a 1998 mondeo diesel, it has been very reliable and has covered 126000 miles. recently it has developed a loud knocking/clattering noise from the engine when starting from cold . when i press the accelerator there is no response for about a second and then the engine will run as normal. when coming off the revs and when it settles into tickover the knocking will come back, but as the engine warms up the noise will gradually quieten down and disappear. the car will then run fine throughout the day, and when left for a few hours will continue to start and run fine with no problems. the knocking only happens when left for several hours, or overnight.

• Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.6 Cooling fan runs after switch off 29 May 2010 (Forum)
  Periodically, and only when I have been driving very sedately, some fan in the engine bay runs for about 10 minutes after engine switch off. This is not because the engine is actually overheated but, I think, is something to with the awful Particulate Filter! Is it giving itself a regenerate while the engine is off and needing cooling while it is doing it, even with the engine off?

  The user manual for Subaru Legacy 2.0 says that the car should run fine on regular unleaded (95) and it is only the turbos that need the premium fuel (98 or above). However I am finding that the performance of my non-turbo 2.0 r is brilliant with say Shell v-power but horribly lumpy with regular unleaded.

  hi new here, just noticed a coolant leak , puddle under car after doing a 60 mile run, and another running drizzle from under car after 60 mile return journey, the temp guage hasnt been above mid way, no rough idel or running as yet, it did seem a little under powered after about 90 miles struggled a little up hill at 60mph it a zetec engine, auto gearbox cant see where leaking from but seems to be from rear of engine bay, havnt been able to get under it yet co i got a dodgy neck and cant move too well, any ideas?

  HELP!!!! my mondeo with the zetec engine has recently started to run at about 1500rpm when ever i pull up at a junction or at the lights, but after about 2-3 minutes it will slowly come back down.I have tried spraying the cable and linkages with copper slip but no difference ,someone told me it will be the idle control valve/air mix valve .This from a person who hasn`t changed his oil in 2 years so i`m not sure if i trust him..PLEASE HELP it`s doing my crust in..

  I have an A3 Code AVU and the water pump failed causing a boil up ...replaced pump and head gasket also fitted new rings and glaze busted the bores had head skimmed and pressure tested re ground the valves and the compression is still not as good as id like (around 110) the car will run with a tow but cuts instantly when allowed to drop below about 1200 revs like ive turned off the ignition no missfire just a staight stop. ive tested the spark and fuel at cranking and both are fine and ideas id be really grateful Thanks

  Having problems with a megane scenic (2005, 1.6) that is only a few hundred miles over the warranty limit (ouch). When car is started all 4 cylinders are being used, but once running only using two. Emissions warning came on and felt/sounded as if there could be a hole in exhaust. Loss of power also. Pencil coil has been replaced but issue not resolved. Further testing is being done today but suggested that probability that ECU will need to be replaced.

  Hi all I've noticed a lot of new Audis are coming with super bright day running lights that seem to be on permanently. My B-i-L followed me for a couple of hours the other week in his new A4 and in the end I had to ask him to turn them off, they were really distracting. That turned out to be less than easy as the option was hidden away in the computer menu system somewhere.

  I got a new lift pump fitted but now the car starts when the engine's cold but if I turn it off after about 10 mins running then it won't start! I have to leave it for a few hours and then it will start, several times no problem. It runs perfect and tickes over perfect but if turned off after a while running thats it!
