  • New Evo IX 30 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi Just bought a new Mitsubishi Evolution IX 06 reg - the car has however been in the UK for nearly 12 months (the alarm was fitted in the UK on 1 June 2005). I guess the car has just been sat around for that time - should I be concerned? I have raised with the dealer and he says its covered by 3 year warranty so dont worry.
  • Merc A Class - snapped springs 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I discovered yesterday that both rear springs on my Mercedes A Class have snapped. The car is 2000W registered and has covered only 25K miles. I have also discovered that Mercedes have updated the design of the spring because of this problem. Does the panel think it is even worth me trying to claim from Mercedes as the car is well over 5 years old?

  • tyre valve caps 12 May 2004 (Forum)
Has anyone out there had problems with scrotes stealing metal valve caps from their cars?. I lost all 4 from mine whilst it was parked in London for a few hours. So I replaced them, only to have them all nicked again. This time my car was parked in Bedford. On the grapevine I have been told that kids are swapping valve covers at school.
  • Towing and Insurance 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Ladies and Gentlemen, I need to tow a car next weekend with a rope (MG conked out at the weekend), and I’m unsure as to the requirements of insurance. When being towed, is the MG covered under the insurance of the towing car, as it is ‘attached’?
  • VW 12 spline driveshaft bolts size 13 May 2002 (Forum)
Would anyone know the size of the 12 point spline drive for the driveshaft to g'box flange bolts on a Mk2 Golf? Hopefully this will save me guessing, followed by crawling under the car in a car park, getting it wrong and feeling like a bit of a plonker as I ask to exchange a brand new tool I've just covered in grease and detritus! Regards, Rob F
  • High TPFT insurance 5 Nov 2000 (Forum)
I own an old Skoda Favorit. My insurance renewal has jumped to 214 pounds for TPFT cover. I have not claimed and feel this is unreasonable for a car worth less than 500 pounds. Is there a specialist insurance company that caters for no frills insurance? or should I sell my Skoda and look for a classic car instead?
  • Should I go for petrol or diesel with my next car? 23 Oct 2019 (Ask HJ)
I'm thinking of replacing my 2012 diesel Volvo V50 with a 3 or 4 year old Porsche Macan. Should I go for the 2.0 petrol rather than the diesel variant?...
  • Getting incorrect MOT advisories deleted 26 Jun 2018 (Forum)
and set about changing them, it transpired the pads were only one-third worn. So I've got an advisory on the MOT history that makes it look like the car isn't maintained correctly (I never let pads wear down past their last 20%) can I get this advisory removed? Is there a process to cover this? The standard MOT appeal process states it’s to report cars that passed and shouldn’t have or ones that failed and should have passed, neither case covers my issue - not terrible in the big scheme of things – I know, however, as most half sane people check the MOT history of vehicles they buy, I like to keep my MOT histories squeaky clean by keeping on top of maintenance.

  • "Exceptional weather event" thread Vol 2. 9 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Well time for some Scottish input here..... Woke up this morning fully planning to take the train to work but when I saw the snow covered car I just couldn't resist! Cleared all the snow off with a large squeegee blade thing normally used for the house windows. Drove into Glasgow relatively OK, in fact nearer Glasgow traffic was better than normal due to there being less of it.
  • Spreading salt today 31 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Eventually caught up with a gritter throwing loads of damp but dusty salt onto the road. Is this the 'new' salt they bought when they run out in the snow in Feb? It covered the car and wheels, looks much more harmful by the way it gets everywhere.
