    Later sold by Ginetta, it was used in hill climb events during the 1970s before being put into storage. It was then purchased in 2018 by current owner, Bill Cowing, who is undertaking a comprehensive restoration with the aim of returning the car to the track. Cowing said, ‘I knew it was a really important car in Ginetta’s history and a great project, and it was in better condition than I expected.

    Other highlights of the September Sale included a pre-production 1982 Audi Quattro Coupe, believed to be the first UK right-hand drive example, which sold for £49,500 in original, recommissioned condition after 20 years in storage. A rare, original condition 1984 Renault 5 Turbo 2 in left-hand drive and reading just 16,898 miles far exceeded its guide price selling for £86,625, more than £16,000 above its lower estimate.

    The car was shipped to the USA in 1970 when Lennon moved there and was loaned out to ferry other rock stars around such as The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and The Moody Blues. In 1977, after a period in storage, it was donated by billionaire Jim Pattison to the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The car will be part of an exhibition called ‘The Great Eight Phantoms’ which tells the story of one of the world’s most important cars before heralding the arrival of the latest model.

    Guitarist May bought the Jowett as a gift for his father, Harold. After Harold’s death, the car sat in dry storage and will now be auctioned to raise money for animal welfare charity Save Me. The Javelin is expected to fetch between £3000 and £6000 when it goes under the hammer at Barons’ Connoisseurs Classic Car sale at Sandown Park, Surrey, on 18 July.

    The car has had just one registered owner and has clocked up just 1500 miles since leaving the British Leyland dealership in September 1980. The car has spent more than 30 years in dry storage, remaining almost untouched other than to be treated with rustproofing to be serviced in April 1982. It was made ready for the road in December 2014, and shortly after passed its first MoT test with 1348 miles showing.

    This car was purchased as a restoration project in the mid-1970s, but very little work was carried out before it was put into dry storage, where it has remained untouched for around 40 years. The engine has been started every so often, and it is said to start and run well. There's plenty of pre-sale interest in this 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL restoration project.

More fun to drive, but estimated at a high £18,000 to £25,000 this 1947 Triumph Roadster 1800 complete with separately screened dickey seat must have been one of the first.

    According to the advert, it drives well and is comfortable at motorway speeds. It’s been garaged for the past year, but the current owner is losing his storage so needs to downsize his fleet. This Montego has just 22k on the clock.

    Owned by the same family for the 25 years of its life, it’s now fighting for survival. Out of MoT, the current vendor (the car’s fourth owner) is selling it due to lack of storage space – and with no MoT, the potential buyer will need to trailer it back. According to the advert, the car does need some work to make it roadworthy. The seller says, ‘It currently has a blowing exhaust in the front section, probably could do with a couple of lower ball joints (which are readily available for little money), and the front brake pipes could do with checking as these were a previous advisory on the last MOT, but that should be it.’ As with any old car that’s been stood a while, the carb could do with adjustment as the choke can stick, which causes the revs to rise.
  • 7700-mile Jaguar E-type set to make £90,000 21 Apr 2015 (News)
    This time, the E-type was properly laid up and oil put into the cylinders. The car was given a full service in October 2006 and once again placed into storage. It was passed onto the current owner when his father died in September 2014. The dust-covered car will now be recomissioned at classic car specialists Tolman Motorsports. Having been used so little the car has covered just over 7,700 miles from new and remains essentially as delivered from the Coventry factory.

    The new building complex, which is being fitted out to the highest standards, will provide some 40,000 square feet of production space, including a dedicated showroom and new paint shop. Another 20,000 square feet will be provided for bespoke classic car storage. CMC is heavily involved in training and developing young engineers of the future and are working with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and the Guild of Specialist Engineers in developing apprenticeships for the restoration business.  The company, which won the restoration of the year award in 2011 with the Lindner Nocker Lightweight , has a number of firsts under its belt including the first ever stretched Series 1 E-type and its unique trailer for an American client.

    The original Sotheby Special, thought lost for so many years, or confused with the second chassis, was disassembled after it left the show circuit and was then sold and placed in long-term storage. Damian Jones, H&H Classics sales director, said, ‘This car will certainly ‘light up’ our Duxford sale. It’s a remarkable car for three reasons: its futuristic design and engineering, it’s very of-the-period tobacco connection, and the fact that as ‘barn-finds’ go, this one is pretty special.

Other sale highlights included the 1909 Leon Bollee, which had been in storage since 1959 and was complete apart from the headlamps and radiator cap, was bought for £21,630 including premium. A 1972 BMW 3.0CSL project car, partially prepared for competition, represented good value at £14,280 with premium, while the Alfasud race car was claimed for the bargain price of £2205 with premium.
