New Car Import Services - HJ please read 19 Mar 2002 (Forum)
They talk of a new company that will handle the delivery etc. but I know for a fact that they have set up a new company with a slightly different name and I'm pretty sure that this is the company that will be handling the transaction, i.e. they are pulling a fast one. Please take this company off your places to buy an import car on your FAQ pages and warn anyone else off from dealing with this them (New Car Import Services Ltd) or their new company New-car-imports.com Ltd I don't know what I will do yet as I placed my deposit on a credit card cheque and will be covered for a full refund under the consumer credit act 1974 (although I suspect this could drag on a bit). -
Lancia Thesis 2.4 diesel - Import car to UK from Italy 7 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Now my Uncle, his licence has been revoked because of his bad eyes sight. He said he wants me to have the car for free if I wish. Now the question is if I import to UK using Eurostar train or ferry would I need documents to entry in UK?, I will have to notification the DVLA. What about car insurance? I don’t think they have type of Lancia Thesis on their database as not been sold in UK before? -
RTAs No longer exist [Read only] 4 Jun 2009 (Forum)
To do this they need to utilise the fire service emergency toolkit computer model (FSEC). Why is this important because the FSEC computer does not recognise RTC's it would be overwhelmed. Again you ask why is this so important. Because you are 7x more likely to die in an RTC than an urban dwelling fire. So be reminded when they review the strategic plan in your area and the disposition of resources ask the question why RTC's are not included in FSEC. -
Warranty on import 27 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I declined saying that a local dealer could refuse to do the work under warranty as Motorpoint had tampered with the component and inmho this could also have warranty implications for anything that is related the radio area ( or electrics) I did not take the car home but wonder who is correct. I feel also that being an import the local dealer would be less than happy to stretch the warranty or help out..Can I refuse to accept the car on these grounds? Any opinions would be welcome thanks alan -
Toyota Estima / Previa? - Minivan / MPV thoughts please… 20 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Future mileage will be 8 to 10k per year. Previous Previa experience and loved it. Thoughts on an imported Estima? Put off by pictures of switches and head unit software in Japanese. But Estima imports look like amazing value. Too good to be true? Thanks in anticipation!! Graham -

Ford Escort - Importing to the UK from South Africa 16 Jan 2024 (Forum)
When I was in Australia to ship a car over from the UK I had to prove that I had owned it for over a year and had to pay a nice Import tax + check over and rego fee. It was worth it for a decent car that would have cost me around $16,000 AUD that I paid £900 for here. I have looked at similar Escorts here and a complete shed seems to hold a value of around £3000. -
Imported Renault & Warranty Implications 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I can understand why they are saying this in principle, it is obviously a method to try to discourage people from buying the imports in the first place. What I find annoying is that the car is to the same spec as the UK equivalent, yet they are able to make such a restrictive condition just because they feel like it. What do others think on this? -
Mitsubishi Commander import 26 Jun 2004 (Forum)
One of my friends has a 1996 grey import Commander 2.9 Diesel on which the crank pulley has been wobbling The local stealer has diagnosed a damaged pulley. First quote was that the pulley (£220) would take 4 weeks to arrive, but they have now requoted for 2 days if he pays up front. -
Double Standards Officer. 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Strange, then, that a mere seven pages later an article on the new Mini Cooper S is printed, heralding its 135 mph capability and seven second 0 - 60 times. The article went on to say "the important figures I like to quote are the 50 - 75 mph overtake time" and last time we looked, 75 mph was illegal and surely not important at all. So next time you get pulled by Northamptonshire Police just say you were testing the important overtaking figures they suggested in 999 magazine. -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads. -
tax disc (or lack of) on european import 13 Nov 2002 (Forum)
A company is importing my new car for me. The car will be in the country in the next day or two but the certificate of conformity has been sent by mail and is unlikely to be here before Friday. If it is sent off to the DVLA with my insurance certificate on Friday they won't get it until Monday. -

UK car prices v import prices. The facts. 21 Apr 2002 (Forum)
UK car prices are also showing signs of going up again with popular small to medium hatchbacks rising 6.4% in the year to Feb 2002. Import your next car from www.cars4importing.net ! The manufacturers will NEVER make UK prices the same as Europe -
Stitched up by Audi main dealer? 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I need to get shot of the car quick, so I've taken it to a local independent Audi dealer purely with a view to settling the finance. The first thing they said when they saw the service book was "this is an import". And sure enough, it is Now the price I paid (22k) was the price of a UK car, and Audi never mentioned it was an import. I appreciate I'm at fault, as its in the book, but I'm very naive with cars, and assumed being in a main dealer, the car coming with the 3 year warranty, and of course paying the going rate for a UK car etc etc The warranty on imports is 1 year, so I rang and asked when the warranty ran out and they mentionmed its not unusual for them to sell imported S3's, and that they 'make up the balance' so that the car comes with the full 3 year uk warranty. -
Crossing my fingers 4 Jun 2012 (Forum)
OK, folks...I've driven only American cars my whole life (with the exception of one really horrible European import that put me off imports for years). However, I just took a leap of faith and bought something utterly unfamiliar: a Mercedes Benz from West Germany. What do you folks know about these, are they any good? -
Boys toy/Sunday runner 22 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Coming up to retire so have some folding money extra for a treat. Looking for something for fun motoring, speed not important. Would love an Austin Champ but prices now crazy. Looking for recommendations, friend picked up a cheap Merc SL with 5 Litre engine. Hoot. MPG not important, easy spares, and easy spanner work are. -
