MGF P Reg Coolant Overheating 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
My first thought was HGF, so I checked the oil, no milkyness. I called out the AA, they did their pressure and chemical tests and the car was fine. They towed me to a local garage who said it WAS HGF and the head had to be sent off for the tests - ie £££. I was not convinced so I got the AA out again, they did the tests again, the car passed again and with them following me, I drove 35 miles to another garage I had been recommended. -
Renault Scenic DCi100 problem 2 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Back on the 24th September, I was travelling to Reading when the car started losing power, hesitating and "chugging" at a certain throttle position, accompanied by clouds of smoke from the rear of the car. The car was towed back to a Renault garage , where they diagnosed a turbo fault and two weeks (!) later a new turbo was shipped in and fitted. I took the car home, and brought it back the next day- exactly the same fault. -
New Vehicles After Sales Faults 19 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I called out the AA who could get not diagnostic codes from the car but suspected a coil had gone and he towed me back to the dealer . As the service dept. is closed on Sundays we were \'greeted\' by a member of the Sales team who told us to take the car back outside and leave it on the street. I said I was not happy to leave my 3 week old car in an Industrial Estate but his response was \"Well It Ain\'t Staying There\" - as you can see things were getting no better. -
Don't try this at home. 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have a pint of the usual oil in the boot for top-ups and we decide to pour it in to at least get something in there. Start it for a while to get it around the engine. So I call the RAC on Easter Sunday and get a tow home. My own, Dad's and fellow neighbour classic car nut all think it's a head gasket failure. But it's used all its oil and the water isn't too depleted but it's below min on the expansion tank. -
2003 Peugeot 307 gxl auto h/b petrol - social financial emotional affects of car repairs 19 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Three weeks ago I had my 2003 Peugeot 307 gxl h/b petrol towed to a nearby garage because it wouldn't fire up. The garage owner replaced fuel pump and sensor in a matter of a week, car still refused to start. The second week I telephoned, mentioned I was concerned about the repair prices. -
Irrelevant - Looking for advice and opinions. 11 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I have the option to return the vehicle under their approved scheme but 1) They have already sold my old vehicle 2) I have spent money already on the new vehicle, namely £600 for a tow bar and having a dash cam hard wired with a voltage sensor. -
Ford Fiesta 1.6tdci Titanium - Cat C repaired car - major issues, any advice 28 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Three weeks ago less than four months after buying the car the engine cut out and would not restart. I had it towed to Ford who advised me the next day that the cambelt had actually snapped causing damage to the engine. It has currently done 31,000 miles. They also advised me that the car showed signs of being in a collision (intersting as I had not mentioned this). -
Audi A1 - Reject New Audi 28 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Since the 15th of December onwards a number of problems have been present with the vehicle and the car has now been in on the following occasions: 12/1/12 - 13/1/12 18/1/12 - Home Visit 23/1/12 - 14/2/12 23/2/12 - 8/3/12 9/3/12 - Home Visit 10/3/12 - RAC Callout 11/3/12 - Audi Dedicated Visist. Car towed back to the dealership. The car has 16 issues, however the main issue for me is Water Ingress. When the car is left stationary overnight for example or during the hours I am at work, if there has been any rain/cold weather all the glass inside the vehicle will be very very misted and will be soaked in water. -

Advice Sought On Paying The Bill 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The patrolman didn't even bother to start the engine and winched the car onto his foldout trailer. The car was then given a follow on tow a few days later to my local VW garage. They diagnosed two small leaks from pipes, and something called the 'rocker' (?), which they fixed. The warning light persisted, so they then decided to check the strainer in the sump, and quoted me a price, which I accepted. -
help! big problems with 306 HDI engine 3 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The problem today was in the morning, started her up, was a strange 'clattering', went down the road a bit more, and this clattering became worse with the engine shaking violently. Was soo worried about this, I got the car towed home by greenflag. We have re-checked everything was aligned as we took the parts off again, we just can't work out why its doing this?! I've got some questions about this: What is the significance of the little embossed markings on the camshaft pulley, which looks like this: \ . / Does the fuel pump, which is has a sproket, require timing? -

Cam belt failure after 100,000 miles - who should pay for the repair? 22 Nov 2022 (Ask HJ)

Volvo V70 D5 Estate - The Agonies of Volvo V70 D5 Ownership 12 Mar 2017 (Forum)
The RAC man suggests its a lot worse than a low battery and suggests it is a problem with the auxilliary belt that has damaged the timing belt and tows the car to a garage. They in turn repeat what he has said: the auxilliary belt failed, wrapped itself around the timing belt which caused it to snap, resulting in serious engine damage. From speaking to many, many Volvo mechanices in the last weeks, it appears to be a well-known fault in this particular engine. -
DVLA Court Case has any one been to court with the 16 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Anyway the first garage sent off the ECU and they couldn’t fix it.. so it went to another and they did.. then it didn’t work still, so had to wait for a mobile VAG comm.. Guy who was on holiday then he couldn’t fix it and then the original garage had the car towed to another garage who had just moved to a new unit and they sorted the problem but had to send away for parts.. They parked the car up out side their unit on the road on an industrial estate. It was clamped by the DVLA as it was by now SORN due to the length of the time of repairs! -
Nissan X-Trail (2007 - ) - J D power 2009 xtrail 14 Jun 2009 (Forum)
But at any rate both a decent to drive. Economy, i don't know how these owners drive, but 30mpg towing 1330kg, high 30's solo (max 42mpg old model) previously, and oddly with the heavier more powerful new xtrail i get more, the trip computer is showing just under 42mpg at the moment, best i had 44mpg! -
Subaru Impreza II WRX (2000 - 2005) - Hit and Run 26 Feb 2009 (Forum)
He managed to push the Impreza back into our other car, luckily no obvious damage to that one. I did pull out a bit of his tow hitch from my bumper though. Report incident to police on non emergency number. They refer me to local Police Station. I take docs etc to police station and report incident, including giving them plate of Discovery and guy's name. -
Peugeot 205 record? 1 Nov 2000 (Forum)
I began by saying that there was a happy ending, and there is. I'm delighted that the car is now ready to begin a new life towing gliders on Highland Glider Club's grass airfield. She will easily take this new role in her stride and I'm sure that she will be able to do this for very many years to come. We still have a 306 diesel turbo which is a wonderful car and I'm about to take delivery of a Rover 216 coupe. -
Advice needed after accident :( 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I called the police but there weren't interested. My car was blocking the road! I got a farmer to give me a tow into a layby on the other side of the road and a copper showed up, breathalised me, checked my insurance, etc. He never asked me what happened. (Needless to say, i passed the breathaliser). My car wouldn't start and my girlfriend was pretty shook up so I arranged for a lift for her from a family member and then payed £55 to have my car towed back.
