Exhange Rates £/Euro 7 Mar 2003 (Forum)
As I know to my cost, (Living in Spain & with U.K. originating pensions paid in Euros) the current exchange rate is dreadful for buying euros with £s. All you folks intending to go the personal import route should keep an eye on F.Ex rates! There is a free exchange rate daily update, via e-mail, available from AA http://www.xe.com/cus/. -
Timing chain service interval 29 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I asked Nissan about the interval for chain renewal on my 96/N Maxima QX 3.0 V6 and they said it is not a service item. Is that true? I understand that even Mercedes S-class have service interval for chains and, from memory, the interval was 250k. Just worry that my chain may stretch or snap. There was nothing mentioned in the Car-by-Car Breakdown. Thanks. -
Update - chattering relay in 205 8 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Initially identified with 3000 rpm, then with gusty wind or occasionally a water-splash. Located a dodgy wire connection (an add-on with the alarm) which caused the chatter, behind the n/s headlamp. Luckily not somewhere in the wiring loom! -
Diesel injector pump info. 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone found worthwhile info on the web to assist in stripping down diesel injector pumps? I would normally fit an exchange unit if needed on a modern car but have a spare pump (u/s due to diesel leaks) for the old Land Rover and would like to have a fiddle. The search engines don't seem to turn up much. David -
Peugeot 309 boot leak 10 Feb 2001 (Forum)
My Pug 309 has a leak in the boot which seem common to all 309's and the bad thing about it is that you get a large build up of water under the rear seats which in time will badly stain or ruin them all together and effects its re-sale value. Does anybody know how I can stop this leak ? -
No fun. 8 Jan 2019 (Forum)
We can trace the decline produced family sized cars back to this point with larger blue collar models like the Omega, Vectra, Mondeo etc etc plummeting in demand as fleets sought to avoid the painful depreciation they suffered from. It’s also when we seen the decline in advertising spending. In the 80’s and 90’s we had a UK car show and smaller shows like the Scottish car show at the SECC along with small regional shows but today there’s nothing promoted by the manufacturers. Another dose of fun removed. -
Ford Cougar (1998 - 2000) - 98 2.0 Recent Purchase, few things gone wrong 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The garage mechanic thought it possible if they were not fitted right (not enough grease???). Front N/S CV joint has rusted through and snapped, killing an ABS (reluctor??) ring. Rear N/S wheel bearing has gone completely. Having just checked the MOT history it was advised there was 'play' on the bearing on a MOT failure 6 days before the dealer resubmitted it and got it passed. -
Removing remains of LIFE from metallic paint 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The seem innocuous enough I suppose, fluting and creating a din as you listen through the open window at 5am, trying to gain consciousness with the help of a strong coffee. That`s the thing about the current heat wave.. SOUND. The town hall clock strikes five - so you know the wind is from the East, due to the volume and clarity. It`s the `nature hour.` Soon there will be the reciprocating metal roaring and snorting as engines fire up on driveways and the mammals get on with blasting their behemoths along the stained tarmac of the outer lane. -
Omega MV6 hesitation on acceleration 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
replaced with a new one by Vauxhalls - but problem has crept back recently. There are no strange lights on the warning systems, no diagnostics come up when she?s serviced. (Does anyone know if these diagnostics are connected on ex-Police MV6s?). She?s serviced as recommended (I like to feel comfortable that my car will go, steer & stop) including spark plugs. -
french car makers on the run 31 Jan 2003 (Forum)
this is interesting because they usually rate french cars higher other make?s during tests/comparisons (that?s national pride getting in the way of objectivity). however the involvement of "auto plus" was a major factor in getting renault to recall 500 000 1.9 dti vehicles. cheers mike1 (peugeot 205 grd @278 000 kms) -

Likelihood of car being written off on no-claim 10 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I have informed my insurers of the incident, but not made a claim I’m afraid if my insurers come to inspect my car they may try to write it off as a category S. I do not think the damage is significant, but there is a small dent in the fender and the gap between the fender and the hood is very slightly larger than the other side. I have read accounts of cars being written-off/put in category S for seemingly minor things, so am a bit worried. -

Ford Galaxy - Leg/stomach room 29 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Anyway, could somebody recommend a car that has really good distance from the back of the seat to the bottom of the steering wheel? I've mentioned the Galaxy but also considering something like a grand c4 picasso, c-max, s-max etc. I did think a range rover or discovery would be a good bet but they're actually awful! Also tried a VW transporter and a transit Due to a spinal injury the car also needs to be pretty high to avoid bending too much, again the s-max would seem to fit the bill but I suppose i could look at a flat bottomed steering wheel which would help a bit but i was thought about what really tall people do? -
MPV diesel engines to avoid? 6 Mar 2019 (Forum)
The one I am liking the most overall is the S-Max so if you only have time for a brief comment I would love some opinions on the TDCI lineup and how to tell the PSA derived from Ford's own. All other comments welcome. I can maintain and repair my cars for most things not requiring a lift and a crew and I am not crazy about having huge BHP on tap as long as I can move when needed. -

Focus MK1 1.6 Auto - Focus Auto noise/vibration. 1 Dec 2014 (Forum)
The other day whilst reversing up a slight incline there wasa sort of sharp clicking noise at the front N/S. Iwas outside and saw the front wheel jerk. Today, my missus was driving it to work and it startied vibrating badly, so she stopped, put it in reverse, then back into Drive and it drove off normally. -
Citroen C1 - Cat C - any way to ascertain the damage? 10 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hi all I have seen a 2012 Citroen C1 which is Cat C. The owner states he carried out the repairs (new o/s rear door & repair to o/s rear wheel arch). He has the VIC. I asked if he had any pictires of the damage - he says no. So I wondered is it possible to find out what damage the car sustained?
