A very detailed explanation of how DPFs work 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
.Second post-injection injects fuel late in the power stroke cycle; fuel partly combusts in the cylinder but also sweeps down the exhaust where unburned fuel triggers an exothermal event in the catalyst, raising the filters temperature further. -

Bye bye Subaru diesels 22 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Their fuel economy was always poor anyway. Most likely reason is that they couldn't compete with other manufacturers on economy and price. -

Where we stand right now, with a new battery, is the engine coughing and wheezing perpetually but never starting, the fuel pump functioning properly but never delivering the fuel to the engine I guess? And that's it. I'm at a loss, my service guy is on holiday, and it's a b***** nightmare trying to find someone to take a look at it in my a***-end of nowhere corner of the world. -
2008 Ford Focus 2.0l DUratec Auto - Gearbox and Aux Belt servicing advice + Start Prob 14 Dec 2014 (Forum)
We took this to the dealer and surprise surprise ( apparently there's no such thing as a real mechanic anymore ) they plugged the computer in and becausde it didn't come up with a fault code they said there was no issue. I think it may be the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. A friend has suggested that I get them to check the fuel pressure at the rail as i can hear the fuel pump prime when putting the ignition in position 2. Could do with finding out before the warranty runs out. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 flashing glow light - MAF Sensor 4 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Brief recent History April 09 replace camsensor Sept 09 Glow light issue -- codes P1211 PO251 which suggests fuel issue - had garage check out everything re fuel issue. They said Fuel filter ok, injectors ok but I stopped short of replacing fuel pump as i was quoted £1200 but no guarantee of success. Sept09 replaced crankshaft sensor helped but not solved the issue Jan 10 Replace MAF and EGR I have now found out that the MAF is triggering the glow light. -

Farewell chug a chug Diesels - you served us well. 13 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The finger of time draws a curtain over period where small economical diesels saved their owners a fortune in fuel bills - and... they could be used as desired without problems. Usually weighing in at around 1,000kg - family cars with decent sized boots and fuel tanks and with full size spare wheels. Pity about the smoke. -
Volvo C30 (2006 - 2009) - Poor fuel economy. 2 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I purchased a Volvo C30 2.0Ltr Diesel Powershift (Auitomatic) back in December 2008. I am in the main, highly deleighted with the car except for its appaling fuel economy. I purchased this car after owning a MkV Golf 1.9 TDI DSG (Automatic), owing to the Volvo's stunning good looks (in my opinion lol) and chose the engine and gerabox being as near to my Golf's spec as possible. -
Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 2000 1.3 SR Increase in fuel consumption 14 Oct 2008 (Forum)
SWMBO bought a three year old 1.3 SR Yaris in 2003 with about 20k miles on clock - since then she has clocked up another 58k and car has performed faultlessly - in fact it passed it's MOT again without anything being done to it last Friday. Over the last few months I have noticed the computer fuel consumption figures have dropped - in all the years it has constantly read around 44-48 mpg and I had no trouble getting it up to 50 mpg - however it's now reading 39-41 - it runs well and starts first time - Now when starting up from cold I can smell slight whiff of petrol and after first 200yrds to first tee junction when lifting foot off throttle the engine speed doesn't drop instantly like it used to -- I have given it a few Italian tune ups (she drives steady) cleaned plugs and changed air filter - There is no temp gauge only a blue symbol of thermometer and that goes out after about 1 1/2 miles - heater gets hot quickly - so before I ask my local Mobile Auto Tune specialist to come and plug his kit on has anyone any advise as what I could look for - I feel it has to be something simple and connected to cold startup as when engine is hot and I reset computer to zero the fuel consumption figure is back up to 44-48 but after startup next morning it drops back to low 40's and if she does a few cold starts during day it gets even lower -- Doing a tank full to tank full consumption work out it's coming out at 44-45.
