Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 02 2.0 HDi low power after hitting flood. 23 May 2008 (Forum)
Tried the disconnect battery thing to reset ECU, all this got me was an "ENGINE IMMOBILISER FAULT", a tow trip to the garage and a 100 euros to reset. and its still the same. -
Had an accident but have some queries 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I was pulling out [turning right] from a side road to main road (small country road), I've already crossed the central line on main road, suddenly all I saw a car + towing caravan appeared from nowhere on my left side and I heard BOOM. I thought my car's [Suzuki Ignis 06] entire front was destroyed - came out of it and found that only bumper was damaged [kerb side front part], scraped and there were few holes. -
03 Laguna repair - opinions needed 13 Jun 2007 (Forum)
She was out doing some shopping last Friday week when the car refused to start back up. She reckons it was running extremely 'growly' prior to parking it. (Direct quote!) Garage towed it back, diagnosed a faulty crank angle sensor and replaced it the same day under warranty (6 months, 6000 miles), we've had the car for 4 months. Didn't really drive it until last weekend when we took it on a 400 mile round trip. -
If you have an S-Max.... 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
All through my journey, this difference of 7 miles remained fairly constant (apart from when going up hills and down hill when it did change), so I thought I'd get there no problem. I missed the garage by about 500 yards!!!! AA came out and just towed me to the garage, I filled up with diesel and primed the engine while I was still filling up to ensure that all the filters and pipes were filled with diesel. Total fuel put into tank - 65.86 litres, approx 1 gallon under the 70 litre claim. -
Which car is a better bet? 6 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Please don't anybody suggest a Mondeo, I know how good they are and if it were solely down to me it would be on my list, unfortunately my only capital here is my current Focus, and I still owe my parents for that, I've tried running Mondeo past them and they think that's ridiculous at my age (I really can't talk them round) and that the *only* type of large cars I should be looking at are more leggy examples of luxury German Marques. Basically I need to tow the line on this one. Anyway, whilst I would like to have a Mondeo on the list, I'm still not in too bad a predicament :-) Blue -
Citroen C4 1.4 (54 Reg) 25 Sep 2005 (Forum)
On a journey on Wednesday the car became completely undriveable, I called out Citroen Assist (RAC) who diagnosed the flat spot, and they towed the car to the nearest Citroen dealer, which happens to be the same one I bought the car from. Citroen Assist gave me a hire car. The Citroen dealer called me on Thursday to say there are "absolutely no faults" with the car, despite the RAC man confirming the flat spot to them. -
Whats your Crash CV 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
New Radiator valance and wings. 80's Fiat 131, lost it on an icy road, backwards through a hedge, Car towed from duckpond the next morning (ducks very upset). Minor panel damage, but car never smelt the same again. Fiat (same) reversed into a 30 foot high lamp pole. New rear estate door. Fiat (same) Parked outside an office tight to steel bollard, thought "must remember thats there", didnt. -
Best way to get a car home? 9 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Cost of fuel plus one months tax. Total cost £60. But, if his insurance ins't in force, what should I do? I don't have a tow-bar on the 406, so can't collect it on a trailer. Guesing getting one fitted and rental of a trailer would be quite expensive? Would my insurance company be likely to agree to switch my insurance to the Clio for 1 day? -
Why the huge jump in diesel performance 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
In simple terms, add some electronic gubbins, whack up the turbo boost, wind up the fuel injection pressure to some giddy value, and hey presto you have a high performance diesel that'll tow the QE2 from 30-70 in no time flat, stay there all day, and use an egg cup of fuel in the process. Or so it seems. Given the higher calorific value, how come technology hasn't been applied to petrol engines that have a zillion horsepower, collossol torque, low thermal losses, and run on half an egg cup of fuel per day? -
Mazda MPV 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
As regards price (and with no haggling) the ex demo 53 plate silver model I drove was offered at £15.5k (£500 off screen price) and a 6k model with tow bar for £15k (again £500 OSP). He'd do a new one with metallic for £18.2k (£2.2k off list) but suggested the ex demo models were much better value. Drive the Deal would do it new for about £500 less. -
Blown Turbo - Opinions please 3 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I knocked the car out of gear (not clever I know) and coasted across onto the hard shoulder. Leoness bravely towed me home and on giving the motor the once over, I noticed the oil was off the dipstick. Took a guess that the oil seals had gone on the turbo which sucked the oil out of the engine and blew it down the exhaust..... -
Insurance claim dilemma 21 May 2002 (Forum)
By hitting the offside corner it pushed the bumper under and buckled the boot floor and offside rear wing which is part of the bodyshell. After judicious use of a tow rope and a gate post, the bumper was heaved back from the tyre and it passed its MOT next day with flying colours since only the reversing light was cracked. Trouble is what to now because, although the guilty party has held her hands up and her insurance company accepts full responsibility, the cost of repair is probably considerably more than the car is worth. -
Volkswagen Passat - Newly purchased car and not the legal owner. 7 May 2021 (Forum)
I drove it about 20 miles and it drove perfectly. 3 hours later I drove it another 20 miles home. Halfway home on the M5 the power cut out and I had to stop it on the hard shoulder. The AA towed it back to my house for £99 as I hadn't got round to setting up my membership, On inspection by a mechanic it was found that the Cam belt was knackered and he reckons it's going to cost between £1000-£1500 to fix.. -
Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 - Tiguan 7 speed DSG gearbox dead after 30k miles 5 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The gear lever physically moves and the display showed it thought it was moving out of P but nothing but the engine revving when trying to pull off. Trying to get the car onto the tow truck it was obvious that the gearbox was still in P (despite the lever position and what the dash said). You could feel the car rolling slightly but the park 'pin' was stopping it (the handbrake was definitely off!). -
toyota auris diesel semi automatic 1.4 - faulty gearbox transmission 26 Mar 2021 (Forum)
The problem continued and increased and it finally remained 'stuck' in the flashing neutral position.I called the AA out to tow me back to this garage.Within a short time, this brilliant patrolman found that the terminals to the actuator were corroded. He cleaned them up and the car started and remained in the drive position whilst the patrolman escorted me back to the garage, which was closed for bank holiday. -
BMW M4 - BMW M4 Seat Issue 4 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Obviously shocked by this, I took the car immediately to my local service shop and was told the car couldn’t be fit in for 2 weeks or 6 if I want a courtesy car. They suggested calling BMW Assist. A tow truck later and an overnight stay in a compound and my M4 was at the same service centre I visited. They called me later that day and told me that there was no fault, that the windscreen had a chip which has caused the crack. -
Corsa 2008 Diesel 1.2 - EGR Valve, Fuel Injectors the list goes on.... 30 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Got out for a few mins and tried tore start car for the same thing - exhaust fumes, juddering, but this time car did not correct itself and so had to get towed to dealership. Dealership are now telling me that the alternator needs to be replaced before they can do any further diagnostics on the vehicle. I have been informed that this is nonsense and they can charge the battery up temporarily to diagnose, but what I want to ask is Does this sound normal - EGR valve, glow plugs and now alternator ? -
Chrysler PT Cruiser 2004 - key will not turn all way in ignition to start eng 18 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Thought a cheaper way- if immobiliser issue, to emergency join the RAC/AA pay their extra costs, but not sure if the RAC can re set an immobiliser - cant afford to pay out twice (join the rac only for them to tow me to a garage) as i only work part time:( -
A quandary, third car or not? 25 May 2018 (Forum)
Her mileage has increased from 15k/yr to now nearer 20k and whilst considering its size and weight the Sorento will do 35-37 mpg on a run, day to day its nearer 30-32. We do need a large vehicle to tow our caravan a few times a year. Also we live rurally at the end of a half mile long farm track. Which is perfectly fine 99% of the time with a conventional vehicle. But 4wd suspension stands up to it better, and in the snow of early March, it was not passable without the SUV (more for the clearance than the 4wd however!) -
Is it possible to fit an aftermarket roof box to my MINI Cooper? 18 Sep 2017 (Ask HJ)
When I purchased my MINI Cooper new in June 2014 I asked if it was possible to fit roof bars to the vehicle. I was informed that it was possible, but cutting...
