  I bought a 2002 mk4 vw polo 1.2 12v, everytime ( cold or hot ) I start  the engine, in the 1st 30 seconds, it revs itself up and down and dies out, I have to put my foot on gas to keep it running. But after about 30 seconds it runs normal. The engine faulty warning light keeps on all the time. I took the car to my local vw dealer, after spent £300 to replace the mapping sensor and cleaned the throttle body, it was as same as before, so they suggested that it should be ( 80% sure ) caused by the faulty throttle body housing ( costs £500 for the new part alone ).

  The local garage often gets Motability cars and his opinion was that the poor owner must have died. Her longest journey is to the supermarket and garden centre so I have to give it a run every week. My usual trip with it shows at the end of the journey that it has averaged 48mpg verified on a spreadsheet. The actual mpg is only 40mpg measured from ownership. The car runs on low profile tyres and I wondered if the discrepancy is down to the smaller tyres.

  I am on my third set of Run Flat Tyres on a 2008 3 series touring.  Michelin Primacy 205/55 R16 tyres have been fitted each time.  Last time the front tyres were wearing down, I had a major repetivie road noise problem that sounded like bearing noise, but was traced to uneven wear on the tyres.

   I have 3 year old Hyundai i30 CRDi (diesel), 25k miles on the clock and full service history.  Car in general runs fine, 55mpg, only a couple of very minor niggles fixed under warranty. A friend of mine suggested that I should sell the car this year and have a layout of around 2.5k to buy a year old i30.

    My machanic advised that the make of part was cheap and this was common with that make of part.  I have recently put a new one on a different make and the car has been running fine.  The engine warning light has come on again but this time its perm on but the car runs perfectly fine (no juddering like before) i am not sure what is causing the light to stay on.  If i continue to drive the car will it do serious damage or would i get a week or 2 out of it first till i have the money to fix it.

  From last few days it is giving problem of not starting up. When I start car from cold it starts up with normal engine noice. It runs for few miles and stalls at some point when engine RPM is less. Attempting starting the car at this point, Engine management light turns on and car don't start. There is no spark from spark plug. If I wait for engine to cool down for about an hour car starts back normal and it runs again for few miles and repeats the same.

  i have just bought a peugeot 306 hdi, after having it about a month the engine manegment light came on and the car cut out, i thought it was the diesel because it was very low so i put some in and it still would not start, i had it put on a diagnostic computer and the code was po230 fuel pump primery curcuit, he cleared the code and the car run for about 1 hour so i was told to change the fuel pump relay which made no differance at all so i tryed a fuel pump (the one in the tank) but still no joy, now the car will only start for about five seconds before it cuts out but some times it will tick over for a while but when i try to rev it it cuts out and plus it would only rev to 2500 rpm and when i switch it off with the key it over runs for about 4 second. i hope some one can help as i dont know what to do next. thanks

  Basically their transport manager gets a local dealer to advise them a price, then let staff decide if they want to pitch in first...what car estimate was £4500 - how accurate might that be? I'd hope to run either car for 5 years, 10k miles per year...subject to no unforeseen disasters, any thoughts on running costs? Petrol/ diesel Insurance Servicing Consumables? Pads discs exhaust batteries Cheers

  The coolant was completely empty and we found that the coolant hose at the bottom of the engine was disconnected, not sure for how long. Garage filled the coolant up and run a carbon mono-oxide test on the coolant tank. The result was that the liquid in the apparatus turned green, which apparently, was indicative of the presence of carbon in the coolant, in other words a head gasket failure.

  Evening, My car has recently developed a rather interesting problem. I am more inclined to believe it is the diff rather than the gearbox but i shall run the symptoms past you to see what you think.  Between the speeds of 46-50mph i have an odd whining sound. It only happens between these speeds and at no other time. It also happens, at any revs in any gear which is why i believe it to be the diff and not the box, as it is the only part that runs at road speed not revs.

  This car will be used mostly for short journeys of a couple of miles. Every 2 months it will get an 80 mile motorway run. Total about 6,000 miles/year. Even so, the salesman insists that there are no problems (DPF or glow plugs) with modern Merc diesel engines and that as petrol and diesel cars cost the same, the diesel works out cheaper to run.

  So, two questions: Assuming the swirl actuator valve is the problem, would something like redex or using premium fuel lengthen its life? Should I cut and run, getting another car? The Signum was brought with 7k on the clock, in the knowledge it's a high depreciator (I got a lot of car for the money) my prefered intention is to run it for another 3 years putting a further 75k on the clock.

  I was (am) interested in engines, and my father, the Chief Engineer, told me to stay put while the full starting sequence (required by Lloyds insurance) for all the auxiliary generators and compressors, then the main engine was run through. By the time the main engine was running, a two stroke blown British Polar, I was absolutely deafened (no ear defenders in the 1950s) and could not really hear anything but could feel the air throbbing.

  hi, i have a nissan primera 2l 16v se+ 1999, the other week the engine management light came on but the car run fine, so the other day i had it put on a computer to find out what was wrong, it came back with bank 1 lambda sensor down (was told this was the 1 on the top of the manifold) so drivin around yest to see if i could find 1, as i was driving around it started playing up and wouldnt rev over 4k rpm and was abit spluttery, then it dropped down to 2k rpm and struggled to get up over a small bridge, i managed to get the car home and today i brought a universal 3 wire lambda sensor and fitted it, but the engine management light still on and it still not running right, i started the car and it ticked over on around the 1k rpm but when reved spluttered up to around 2k and then dropped just below 1k rpm and was verry spluttery thanks dave Moved to technical

  Mechanics say one minute car runs fine then 20 min later once again missing slightly ??? By the way car did not show any faults on dash when i took it in for repair and also had full service less than 100 miles ago. I have spent £500 so far trying to get fault fixed, can anyone help me here that may of had the same fault or any new ideas ????
