BMW 5 Series - Allianz Insurance wont pay out!! 16 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I asked what to do next and i was told to send in the V5, MOT etc.. which i have it all, i told Allianz that I was not the registered keeper on the V5 however i was the owner, Allianz bluntly told me that as i was not the registered keeper I would not have my claim met and i was to be liable for all storage and recovery costs of my vehicle. I immediately contacted the FSA and they took my side immediately and wrote them a letter. I paid for my insurance every month without fail, also i took it out through Budgetr Insurance and I wasnt asked about who was the Registered keeper, just who owned it. i have been nothing but honest and cooperative but yet they refuse to pay. -
Hyundai i10 - Water ingress & warranty 20 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I had thought there was a bit of a smell in the car and this explains it. I then checked the boot - the boot carpet and plastic storage compartment underneath are bone dry but there was water underneath the plastic compartment; the padding on the base of the plastic compartment that rests on the wheel arch was soaked, there was water/condensation collected in the spare itself and there was about an inch or so of water pooled in the spare wheel well. -
Renewable Energy and Cars. feeble renewable... 25 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Best bet, no wind and so on and gentle breezes i bet you would be lucky to get a constant 40 watts over a year. Contrast that with the house storage heaters drawing 9,000 watts through a winter night, that`s excluding the part heated by gas and without the 300 watt TV, kettle, lights, computers and so on. Not much spare capacity then to charge an electric car at night... -
5 weeks with a Benz A180 elegance 30 Oct 2001 (Forum)
the handelling on the narrow back lanes and single track roads or the welsh borders and hills was exemplary Inside storage space was amazing and the climate control AC was a boon on some of the Aug. like days I enjoyed. on the down side were the nasty orange door decals advertising the firm... the single lighter socket got a bit cramped with 3 things plugged into it and while shifting my hand would sometimes push the assembled plugs into the radio controles... the 3 headrests on the rear seat blocked most of the view of the inside mirror till I removed them after the first 10 miles. -
Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - Review 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The seats are comfortable for four but, although there are belts for 3 in the back, the centre seat is more like a soft-padded triple-width armrest or picnic table. 6 airbags are supplied. There are storage nets in the backs of the front seats. The steering wheel is adjustable both ways but with not quite enough reach for me. The ignition key is on the column and may rub against the right knee. There are 6 speakers but these do not, of course, prevent the frequent drop-outs on the two FM bands but the sound is good on CD, although there is no special disc storage. -
Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - 1997 1332cc 4E-FE corolla 20 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I've noticed a slight bubbling of paintwork there, but some work with an emery board and more clear laquer and it seems to be ok. under the car, there is a rubber plug at the bottom of the spare wheel storage well. noticed slight surface rust around there, but easy to deal with. The rubber headlight surrounds seem to have perished, and flap about a bit- seen it on others so I guess it's common. Bit of glue does the trick. -
BMW E39 535i - glitches 24 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Not sure of the value of such a car with 9 months MOT left. Radio doesn't work since she was put into storage (previously working perfectly) and now windscreen washer motor has stopped working. Had an independent car electrics guy have a look and he says the radio needs to be replaced (dunno why!) and I need a new washer motor. -
VW Polo 2004 1.4L - 54 Plate VW Polo randomly cutting out 26 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I have a 54 plate 1.4 VW Polo bought 2nd hand from a business seller 119k miles (yes I know it's a lot) It has randomly started just cutting out when driving - my apologies if any of the below sounds obvious or stupid but I am not great with cars and would appreciate any help possible. About 2 weeks ago I was pulling into a storage facility and the engine just cut out although the electrics etc. were all still OK. I managed to restart it after a couple of attempts including revving the engine. It's been absolutely fine until now so I thought maybe I had just stalled it. -
DPF-Short trips-alternative solutions 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Why can`t the off car electric energy solution take the brunt of energy demands for these? Why can`t a solution as in an electric storage heater store heat from the mains and then use a simple on-board fan to distribute heat during use.? Small interior space, little weight. Surely the answer to short journey, stop start, second cars is somewhere here, rather than with DPF diesels? -
6 drops of water 130,000 miles, Filters 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
But, as you know, modern common rail diesels have a water warning light ( and even with a brand new filter taking on a load of water from a defective tank could overwhelm a new filter) and where is the evidence that solids would reduce fuel flow enough to be significant, over, say 100,000 miles? I mean cars fueled from regular mainstream pumps and not commercial vehicle storage tanks. To conclude, just focusing on the new common rail Diesels, these seem to have a felt type filter and have a water warning device. Surely changing these on a regular basis increases the risk of getting dirt into the pump and injectors by the very process of changing it? -
FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - Impressions of 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Inside the seats were comfortable and seemed better than average for a budget car. It had lots of little storage areas however they weren't a very useful size. I ended up having to put my sunglasses in the door pocket because there wasn't a suitable dash space. Same when I wanted to put a bit of small change handy for bridge tolls. -

Time taken to reach final settlement is one of the thorniest issues in the industry. While a claim remains 'open' the insurer is incurring direct costs, such as vehicle storage, replacement vehicle hire and administration. Delays also tend to increase final settlement costs as the customer's expectation increases over time. Market Value Manager mitigates those problems, while enabling the fairest and most transparent possible deal for the customer. ------------------------------ T our V an M an TM < Ex RF > -
Return from Val D'Isere 2 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The first a good Samaritan witness left the details on my windscreen and I was eventually able to involve the police and recover my costs.) The parking ticket, recovery fee and storage amounted to a sobering 137 Euros. The minor shunt damage is theoretically insured although time will tell whether the collision damage waiver and excess waiver is worth anything. Comically, I wasn't able to pay the parking fine in France ! -
Looking for SUV suggestions 4 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Priorities are as follows - Budget £30k (400k sek - I think the market is a bit more expensive in Sweden, but fairly comparable to the UK) - Decent AWD - Reliability! - Ample storage - Fuel economy (within reason) Things I'm undecided on - Auto vs manual - Petrol vs diesel vs hyrbid vs PHEV Things I don't really care about - Interior / gadgets - Appearance (tho ideally doesn't look like a space ship) - Ride / handling etc (have a preferred indiference ofc, but my priority is getting from a to b) We own a cottage in central sweden that we are leaving, but will still own. -
mazda 6 Takuya - Car power loss, accelerating = stuttering. 7 Jun 2017 (Forum)

So I got a new battery installed as the meter gave a bad reading, the mechanic said it's probably not causing the problem, and I managed to nurse it home with it only happening again once in my home town. -
Toyota Corolla - Accident Management Company 12 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I am now claimining through my own insurance, so the third party will be receiving two claims about my car. One for the pickup, storage, then delivery back to me of my vehicle and for the hire car from the accident management company and another from my insurance for the repairs. Sorry for the massive wall of text for my first post and hope it all makes sense! -
Peugeot 406 Diesel Estate Disk Brakes 9 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The dealer had reported to Peugeot that there was a "material problem" with these disks. This problem was unspecified. Was it manufacturing, design, material, finishing, storage or what? With modern manufacturing standards and regulations surely this should be impossible? The disks replaced on the dates below were Peugeot supplied parts: 12.03.01 31.08.01 12.12.01 The disks I've got now have done just over 1000 miles since the last change. -
1.2 TSI vs 1.6 CR 105 - Skoda Fabia - advice to a colleague 6 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Her best mate told me all this (another colleague) and I said - right car (she has a dog and needs storage for camping and to tow a trailer) but totally the wrong engine. The colleague in question had a chat to me today and I explained that with her annual mileage and the type of driving (mainly through town with the odd motorway jaunt) haivng a diesel would be totally unsuitable. -
Warranty woes - I need legal advice! 16 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I rang the garage that sold me the warranty and spoke to the Sales Manager who told me that:- 1) the salesman couldn't have sold me a "Gilt Edged" plan since it doesn't cover vehicles over 100k miles and runs for a minimum of a year (NEITHER of which are mentioned on the application form or in the Motorcare Warranties booklet they gave me) 2) the salesman couldn't have performed the upgrade if I didn't physically sign for the it (which is rubbish since it WAS upgraded, but only one step from "Silver" to "Gold") 3) the salesman who sold me the warranty has left the company can't be questioned 4) the relevant documentation is in storage for a company move so is unaccessible and will be for a period of time All the Sales Manager would offer me was a refund of the extra £50 I paid for the additional step from "Gold" to "Gilted Edge" cover, but obviously that's not what I want since it leaves me with a £500+ bill to pay! -
tablet pc - 2010 Top 7 Network Technology 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
In 2010, at 6A cables, Gigabit switches and other equipment support, the network represented by 10GBase ultra high-speed network, has gradually liberalized the rule from the data center to the vast metropolitan area of pace. 5 Simplify data center architecture proven I believe many of my friends have heard in 2010, “next-generation data center architecture” concept, which combines Ethernet, data networks and storage networks, “simplified” network architecture, has become a data center network construction favorite. We all know that the traditional data center architecture, Ethernet, data network and storage network are actually operating independently of each other, this way, data exchange between different networks will be a bottleneck, a serious impediment to business the pace of development; the same time, virtualization technology to a large extent by the traditional data center network architecture limitations.
