  • Mercedes 'gullwing' could make £1m at auction 18 Jan 2016 (News)
    The diverse range of cars from the Kingsley Curtis Collection will be auction by Bonhams on 20 March at the 74th Members' Meeting and include a horse-drawn hearse and a Mercedes ‘gullwing’. Leading the collection at the Members’ Meeting sale is the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing – the third delivered to the UK – that could fetch up to a million pounds.

    There’s a 1993 ex-Works Ford Escort Cosworth (estimated at £45,000 to £55,000), a 1982 Ex Works Vauxhall Chevette HSR DTV driven by Russell Brookes (£70,000 to £85,000), a 1959 Elva MK III Sports Racer 1500cc Climax (£110,000 to £130,000) and a 1980 Ford GT40 L one-off Continuation Car (£45,000 to £60,000). The sale also offers the opportunity to invest in two mighty Mercedes-Benz historic touring cars that are synonymous with the Goodwood Revival meeting. There’s 1964 Mercedes-Benz 300SE ‘fintail’ with 17 consecutive race seasons in the same ownership (estimated at £35,000 to £45,000) and a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S ‘Ponton', a star of the Revival meetings since 2008 (£35,000 to £45,000).

  • Retro Classics 2017: Stuttgart show to honour racer Roland Asch 23 Jan 2017 (News)
    His first race in the German Touring Car Championship was at Hockenheim in 1984. After moving from Ford to Mercedes-Benz, Asch was runner-up the in the DTM championship in 1988 and 1993. Asch also recorded success the German Porsche 944 Turbo Cup, where he won the title three years in a row from 1987 and 1989.
  • Ferrari 275 GTB Berlinetta makes £1.56m at auction 5 Feb 2016 (News)
    Philip Kantor, Bonhams European head of motoring, said, ‘Fifty per cent of the top ten lots from today’s sale were from Ferrari, with the remainder coming from Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royce.’ Elsewhere, a generous donor offered his 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Convertible for sale, with proceeds to benefit a Parisien charity. The Fondation de l’Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) is dedicated to supporting post-trauma research, and will receive £61,280 from the sale for their cause.
  • Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Infiniti Q30 makes debut 15 Sep 2015 (News)
    Prices will start from £19,780 for the petrol version and £20,730 for the diesel - less than a Mercedes-Benz A-Class. There will also be an Infiniti Q30 Black Edition for the launch priced from £26,110. As you'd expect, it comes in black... The Q30 will be produced at Nissan’s Sunderland plant from the end of this year, before going on sale at the start of 2016.

    Marques represented include some of the best in the world such as Bentley, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lotus and Porsche, with models from the 1950s, '60s and '70s strongly represented. There's a variety of cars with famous owners including an ex-Roger Daltrey 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280SL (above), estimated at between £12,000 to £15,000, a 1965 Jaguar E-type Series I (below) that was first owned by Charlie Drake, estimated at between £40,000 to £45,000; and a 1989 Jaguar XJ-S, estimated at between £6,000 to £8,000, previously owned by Chris Evans no less and now owned by his colleague Vassos Alexander.

    The oldest car was a 1927 Austin Chummy, sold for £11,985 including commission. The youngest car was a 2013 Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG, sold for £45,920 inclusive Total sale revenue was £2,942,274 Of the 162 consignments, 116 have been sold to date (a sale rate of 72%). The magnificently-presented 1966 Maserati Sebring Series II (main photo), one of 242 produced, proved a star of the sale, sold for £269,920 inc.  Jaguar prices were robust, with a stunning XK150SE Drophead Coupe making £137,760 inc,  a 1966 E-Type Fixedhead Coupe 4.2 selling above estimate just shy of £!

    RM Auctions in association with Sotheby’s sold 85 cars in London’s Battersea Park on 1st November in a seven hour auction, including a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Spezial Roadster from the Bernie Ecclestone collection, which achieved a staggering £3,967,125, making it the star lot of the sale and one of the most expensive Mercedes-Benz road-going cars ever sold at auction.

    Presented in Pearl Effect White Metallic and coming from 19-year ownership, it was sold to a bidder in the room for £38,500 (exceeding its estimate by £12,500). A late production 1989 Mercedes-Benz 500SL and a smartly presented 1992 Mercedes 500E Lorinser also proved popular, both exceeded their pre-sale estimates, selling for £18,480 and £17,380, respectively.
