Citroen - 98 1.9D LX- braking issues 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It was now coming up 8 clicks. Anyway- I changed the pads and discs with no dramas but when I checked the brakes they took quite a few pumps to build up pressure. Once pressure was built up the pedal still seemed to be creeping to the floor and if left for a minute pressure dropped again. We went through the process of bleeding the front brakes- No air, no change. -
Golf Mk 4 Rear brake binding 17 May 2004 (Forum)
Have done approx 78,000m from new in 2001MY 115PS TDI PD. My driving style is very light on brake use, plus main jouney is m/way. Original pads and discs stll have plenty of meat left. Rear brake squeal occasionally evident over approx last 30,000m. Today I had the OSR tyre renewed... The operator managed to damage the alloy wheel by incorrectly loacting it on the tyre removing machine - wheel now has deep gouges across two of the spokes. -

Renault Scenic '05 - rear brake squeal 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Well, I've had the replacement car a good four months now (19,000 miles done), and yet again, I'm at the hands of the wonderfully competant Renault support staff. Around 16,000 miles, the rear brakes started to squeal under moderate braking. This was most noticeable when braking up to a roundabout under normal conditions; the squeal started at around 30-40mph, and continued until you stopped. -
Mondeo H/Brake Adjustment 16 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Anyone know where the adjuster for the handbrake is on a R-plate 2.0 16v hatchback is? I expect it's under the exhaust heat shields. Thanks -
Chevrolet Cruze 1.6s saloon 2011 comments - MOT 9 May 2014 (Forum)
Service carried out a few weeks before MOT and front and rear pads changed at Kwikfit, Brake service was properly carried out, so no issues with parking brake. As with Astras (same parking brake mechanism) some issues can be found with that point. As I have stopped driving for the moment (living in walking distance of shops and work for youngrovergirl) have decided not to change car and therefore not give 20% to chancellor. -
Ford Mondeo - Severe brake vibration 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
As soon as I fitted the new discs/pads it was an immediate improvement, back to 'normal' brakes again. However, they have slowly started to creep back to the juddering again, after 2000 miles or so. This time, I've noticed that it's worst at higher speeds (motorway speeds) and it's definitely worse when applying a bit of turn whilst braking. -
My Almera brakes are worn out already 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I can understand brake pads at that age, but disks too? The service manager tells me that's not a bad mileage, which is where I start to get suspicious. What do others think should be expected life of brake discs? I know that automatic cars are harder on brakes than manuals, but even I so I always try to drive gently, slowing gradually rather than braking shaply, and generally anticipating the road. -
2015 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 DIG-T - Safety Issue - Rear Disc Brakes 12 Oct 2017 (Forum)
The second annual service has just been completed (06.10.2017) with the mileage now at 13970. The local Nissan dealer has informed us that the vehicle requires new rear brake discs and pads. The dealer has said the vehicle is not safe to use, the brake pads are completely worn away, and the discs heavily scored. We are therefore left with no option but to leave the car at the dealership. -
Peugeot 106 - Peugeot 106 1.4 (1997) - Front RHS brake binding 20 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hi all, After a recent driveshaft/wheel bearing change on my R-Reg 1.4XR, I found that the OS brake is now binding. I have checked/replaced several parts and found that the caliper piston is causing the inner brake pad to act on the disc; it's not fully binded, but drags on the disc and causes a loud noise when driving. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 03 2.0 Knocking noise on braking 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Now it has started coming on when I hit around 70mph, never at lower speeds. Always goes off again though on stop and restart. Today, on braking started to feel a little bit of knocking, progressivly got worse, definite knock, clunk, knock on braking, brakes appear to be working as well as they always did though. Any ideas, could this be a problem with the ABS, if so any ideas what and how much the darn Pug is going to cost me this time. -
Ford Focus - brakes...are they working? 2 Nov 2004 (Forum)
You're thinking I have the motoring equivalent of hypochondria - I haven't really - I'm just being a perfectionist. Brakes - as you may have guessed is the problem I've decided on today. The car does stop. The brakes don't seem to grind leading me to believe it isn't the pads. I wouldn't even say there was excessive travel in the pedal - nor is it spongy but it doesn't seem to have the bite it used to have. -
astra brake light problem 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest a solution to my problem with the brake lights on my son's 1.6 P reg Astra premier, Im minding the car for him whilst he's working away, It,s not getting a lot of running coupled with me being away on holiday, when I came back and tried to start It the battery was'nt up to the job, now normally I would just put the jump leads on it but I'd had this gadget in the boot for ages unused that works by transfering power via the cigar lighter sockets, the Idea is to just plug in and wait for enough power to flow into the duff battery, anyway It did'nt work and so resorted to the trusty jump leads, the problem now is that the brake lights won't go out as soon as the ignition is turned on, my own theory is that it may have blown a diode allowing power to flow from another source and feed the brake lights, but where are they located and what do they look like? -
Audi 100 brakes 9 May 2003 (Forum)
Audi 100 estate a couple of months ago, since we are renovating our house and it's handy for shifting materials and rubbish. It's been fine since i bought it up until today. Driving home from work, the brake warning light came on. I stopped and checked the fluid level, and it was fine, so i carefully carried on home. Then, the brake pedal stiffened up considerably, so i needed to use all of my 17 stone to stand on the pedal to bring the car to a stop!
