• Timescale to replace a new vehicle 27 Apr 2002 (Forum)
  Has anybody got any facts and info on the most cost effective period to keep a new vehicle before replacing it? Do you keep it 3years, 5 years or just run it into the ground? Any useful advice would be appreciated.

  Isn't it time we adopted the Swedish and Canadian system where dipped headlights are on if the engine is running. I am sure there would be a reduction in accidents.

  #1 Approx. 1 out of 10 starts are "rough". Engine starts unevenly and sounds rough...after 1-2 seconds engine runs smoothly. Sounds like it only fires on 3 cylinders to begin with. No pattern to this...happens on cold starts and warm starts. Engine runs normally aside from starting with smooth idling and good acceleration.

  We've always been a bit conscious that the timing isn't quite as we'd expect it to be, ecu has been reset which solves the problem but only for a few weeks/months.  Last week the car started bunny hopping away from lights having been running fine for the past hour.  We were only a few hundred yards from home luckily.  The next day we went out in the car, seemed fine, running ok until we got onto the motorway when it started running badly.

  Cubans had a ban on importing cars and so were obliged to run their old models for years. The streets are full of old American cars, with a lower supply of ice cars over here will our motorists adopt a similar approach and hang on to their vehicles for a very long time?

  The handbrake release mechanism dosen’t always work properlly. I am told to bring it in, they say Mercedes run the warranty but I thought the contract was with the seller I.e the dealer.

  My son has seen a 2008 MB c220 diesel auto with 75000 full service history same owner for the last 9 years.... his milage does warant a diesel and he does require an auto... is there any horror stories for this car.. except for expensive running costs?

  I run a Ford B Max 1.0 Ecoboost 125PS. Can anyone confirm at what RPM the turbo cuts in. I believe it is 1400rpm but would like confirmation.

  When the accelerator is pressed however gently the car jerks forward, both from when the engine is running or when the stop-start starts the engine. A diagnostic test says there is nothing wrong, but what is the cause?

  Cooling fan not working under normal conditions. If sensor on the block is disconnected, the fan will run. Sensor replaced, assumed working ok. Relay & fuse OK. Non AC engine. 2003. 1.9

  just bought an old 1999 s40 petrol ,114000 miles . Starts on turn of key and runs fine up until 50mph ,then getting a metalic rattle from front end, drop below 50 mph and it stops ,any ideas please.

  Should I go ahead or ask for a re-set first to see if fault comes back ? Would the NOX replacement improve mpg and general running ? Any advice much appreciated.
