  Hi Guys Citroen Xantia 2.0i 16 valve petrol estate My car is running very badly. It is difficult to start and when I've got it started the tickover is very uneven, the orange engine management light comes on intermittently. it drops down from 2000 rpm to almost zero then stars going again, also every now and then there is a bad misfire which sounds like unburnt fuel exploding in the exhaust.

  When I start my car first thing in the morning it runs very unevenly until it's warmed up - I can feel the whole car shaking. It also hesitates when I try to accelerate. It's fine one it's warmed up and this only happens when starting in the morning. A friend has suugested some overnight damp may be getting into the distributor leads - is this likely?

  Obviously when the fan is on the revs will tick over above 1000rpm. That's how I know the fan is running and when I switch off the engine it usually runs for a few seconds and sounds like a jet engine.  I've got air con on this model and am aware that the fan will spin faster with this on but air con is not on when the fault occurs.
