Is there anything that I could do to, fix/examin myself with the fuel pump and injectors?? Im not affraid of getting the hands dirty aslong as i have decent advice and a guide to follow. -
Volkswagen Bora - Fuel consumption 17 Jun 2010 (Forum)
The question is: Can a sticky turbo vanes or bad MAP sensor cause this symptons? I mean the increased fuel consumption and the bit black smoke. The weird thing is when I get first time limp mode, there was not black smoke or increased fuel consumption.I have just realised since the turbo has been cleaned with innotec cleaner. -
Renault Laguna II - Laguna 2.2 dCi VERY high fuel consumption 20 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Before I start, yes I got a Renault, bad mistake so I dont need any of that information :D For a while now I have been getting really low fuel economy on my 53 plate Laguna 2.2 dCi. Hoping you guys here can provide some suggestions. The official figures are around 33/43/53mpg for town/combined/motorways respectively. Got the car in June and for the usual commute (90% motorway, 10% town) it was averaging around 45mpg. -
Mondeo s reg. Significant fuel leak 13 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Haynes says remove the tank first before dealing with them. I am hoping it is just a pipe come off. When fixed it should improve my fuel consumption a bit. -
Are speed ramps killing my fuel economy? 13 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I usually have to slow to about 10mph to take them. It occours to me that the reason for my shocking fuel economy when at home could well be the slowing down and subsequent speeding up from using these speed ramps. Am I on the right lines here? Could it make such a difference? Also, what effect are these ramps having on my car? -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1996 1.7 TD - Intermittent Starting Fault 4 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Sometimes it will start first time others it may take a good few attempts but nearly always when it does start it's within a few seconds of turning the key i.e. increasing cranking time does not have a positive effect. For this reason I suspect the problem is with the immobiliser and not air in the fuel/backdraining or glow plugs or starting / charging system. There was a problem with the main fuel shut-off solenoid but that was more that it wasn't shutting as opposd to not opening. The plunger has been removed to bypass it at the moment and the engine has been starting and stopping on the immobiliser solenoid. -
Peugeot expert Hdi 2002 - Peugeot expert fault, need an experts input ! 18 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Ok here goes, had this van for years, first got it it went like a rocket ship but not now, about 3 years ago van wouldn't start, Peugeot specialist diagnosed as ecu fault do replaced ecu and all was good, about a year later under hard load it would cut out, and illuminate elm light, restart after 5 seconds and run fine till the fault re occurred, this got more frequent until I was towing a car home and had to disconnect fuel rail sensor to get home, went to start van one day and it wouldn't start, looked on forum and tried double pin relay, connector was damaged so I wired up new relays and the van would run again, still in limp mode with fuel rail sensor disconnected, got a scrap car to swap bits over from and here's where I am now, Swapped injectors Swapped rail sensor Swapped for And it was still no better so I assumed the worst and changed high pressure pump, van started up and eml came straight on, yeah still in limp mode so I took it for a brief drive, cleared fuel rail pressure sensor fault and it wouldn't clear, turned van off to check fuel rail sensor wiring ( one pin earth, middle pin 9.3v with ignition on and other pin 4.98v, thought the 9.3 reading was strange so traced wiring to check for damage but seems ok, went to fire van back up and it won't start Fault codes p1135, p1517, p0234, p1100, p0380, p1138 all return after cranking and p0190 won't clear, please help -
X plate Citroen Saxo diesel - 2000 Saxo Diesel cold running 63000 miles 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Will try a temperature sensor to see it this helps as I assume it is linked to the ECU and replace the fuel filter as they are cheap. Also read about a 'Thermostatic Valve' in the fuel line which looks like a promising answer to my problem....are they expensive, easy to get at for a D.I.Y machanic and can they be repaired/cleaned? -
Kia Rio - Impact of Air Con and Tyre Width on your MPG 17 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Additionally when the same vehicle with air con is shod with wider 195/55 R16 tyres as in the Grade 2 model, there is a further degradation from 78.5 mpg to 74.3 mpg. I.E. a further 5.6 % increase in fuel consumption from 3.6 to 3.8 litres per 100Km. http://www.kia.co.uk/new-cars/range/compact-cars/new-rio/specification/technical-specification.aspxmuch As always, real world fuel consumption is generally higher than the EU Standard Test figures but they give you some idea of the probable percentage impact of your choices on whatever your own real world figures are. -
BMW 3 Series Coupe - Bad Experience Cargiant AA Warranty 20 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I told them when the Cargiant sold me this product they showed me this leaflet, which I still have, and clearly says the warranty includes Engine, Fuel System, Working Materials, etc. Now if you were to exclude various parts and components of the engine, fuel system, labour and so on, then you should have printed them on the warranty description as well. -
Peugeot 306 HDi 2.0 (2000) - 306 HDi...possibly a dumb question 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I have a 306 which wouldnt start, I ruled out the LP pump by powering it via a sealey power probe and a spare battery and the car starts and runs fine After looking into common faults with this model and bearing in mind I probably know less about cars than the average 6 year old girl this might be a world class dumb question lol So far I have figured out the following The fuel on is pumped by the LP pump in a circle back to the tank and the HP pump takes only the fuel it needs The LP pump primes for 10 seconds in the pre ignition phase to allow for a car thats run out of fuel but runs constantly once the engine has started So rather than finding the fault thats stopping power from getting to the LP pump which icould be the pump relay, the connector, the wiring itself an ECU output or maybe even the emergency fuel cut off solenoid (its a diesel so not as risky as a petrol model) what, if any are the downsides of just powering this pump from a 15A supply that becomes live with the ignition? -
Peugeot 306 - Pug 306 1.9td rough running, white smoke etc... 29 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I have taken off the injectors and had these tested - no problems, I have also put on a clear pipe off the fuel return from the pump and there is no air in the fuel. On taking the intercooler off there is some thick gloopy oil in the air inlet, i guess that this is from the turbo, which hasn't worked since i got it, but don;t think that this would cause this problem? -
America Unchained 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Only watched it by chance as was a film by Dave Gorman, whose work I have always liked as seems to act out ideas thought out in the pub after quite a few drinks, but does go through with. The attitude to the customer was astounding to see. As they were not buying fuel from the chains, inevitably it meant running out of petrol (especially as the fuel tank was not as big as they had been told by the seller). In one case the owner of a fuel station drove out 5 miles with a can of fuel to get them into town to fill up, and expected no money whatsoever for this. -
Fuel Consumption (again) 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Well, she replies, for the last week and a half you have been driving so slowly and carefully, never going above 60 mph on the motorway, freewheeling every time we approach the hill back into our village, and you always take the Saxo when you are going short journeys now! Sheepishly, I had to confess that I was trying an experiment with fuel consumption but in my heart of hearts I did not realise that my whole driving style had changed! I don't think I will make a very good control for scientific experiments! As a postnote, I did fuel up again and had averaged 49.8mpg but whilst putting Millers in my tank I realised that I had also only put in 1 measure which was for 20 litres, my car takes 60 litres! -

Ford S-MAX - White smoke from under bonnet. Losing the will! Please help :-) 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
When I got the car back there was diesel leaking. He assured me it was just where he had to remove the injector and fuel had dropped down into the belly pan underneath and was simply spilling out whilst I was driving. He jet washed it all out. I had the car back and drove the car 10 miles but then white smoke was coming from under the bonnet and it was clear there was a fuel leak. -
Shafted by Small Call Dealer? 28 Aug 2022 (Forum)
As I expected, the car was quite mucky with patches of rust around the doors but that didn’t bother me. However, after putting in £20 of fuel, I noticed a strong smell of petrol when I drove the car. Had it checked by a reputable garage and they have told me that: 1. There is a split in the fuel tank seam. 2. The front subframe is rotten. 3. -
Kia Niro 2018/68 - Fuel Consumtion of PHEV 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I have been running one of the above for 2 years now and find the car superb in every respect. I see there is quite a lot of discussion re fuel consumption of PHEV's. Obviously, the more miles you do on electric, the better the overall result will be. In the real world though, motorway and long distance driving does crop up. We do approx 10000 mpy and our crude overall consumption is 90 mpg.
