  • Audi A3 1.8T 'Banging' when parking 9 May 2006 (Forum)
When reversing out of my garage I hear a loud bang quite regularly. The garage has a steep slope leading down to the road, and the noise occurs just as the rear wheels go onto the down slope. It's not any impact with surroundings. It sounds like the handbrake popping off, however it doesn't feel like the handbrake sticks and the noise does not occur in any situation other than reversing out of th garage.
  • Police "Chase" on M8 today 15 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Wonder if these training exercises have ever been brought to a halt by something like this? OK, I suppose that even the lead car was "training" in that driver having to look out for things like vehicles pulling out, but, stilll the same, it could have ended up with very bad consequences if any members of the public had decided to help out!
  • New "Police" Force Required 21 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Reading the recurring threads on this site - there is ANOTHER one on the perennial problem of fog lights, leads me to the conclusion that we need a new police force. This force would deal with things like:- Fog lights on at inappropriate times. Drivers using hand-held mobile phones. Cars with tinted windows.
  • How to obtain CCTV footage for accident? 20 Jun 2005 (Forum)
As she has never deviated from her lane at all for the 160 metres before the accident and it was the other party who needs to get into her lane, she believe it is the other party's fault. There is a CCTV covering the accident spot and the road leading upto the accident spot so we are hoping to obtain the CCTV footage as evidence that the other party is at fault. How and where would we be able to obtain this footage? (Police attended the accident but unfornately it happened so quickly that we both forgot to obtain a CAD number from them) Many thanks, Gazza

  • vw polo help! 6 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Also when in neutral, the engine seems like it is 'hunting' and sometimes feels like its about to stall unless I rev the engine! I recently changed all 4 spark plugs and leads (they had gone very rigid) to eradicate the problem but this has not worked. It has done 40k miles and hopefully it will do a lot more but it feels very sick at the moment! Any ideas of what might be wrong?
  • Rover Engine Judders 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The upper engine mounts are sound and the rear anti-rock engine mount is brand new. New plugs & spark leads from plugs to distributor and diagnostics find nothing. Have cleaned throttle butterfly, its pivots are unworn & action smooth. No detectable manifold leaks. Any help you can give to prevent whiplash injury would be great !!!
  • Triumph 2000 C.R. output etc 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
A while back there was a thread on additives to replace leaded petrol, and Dizzy was querying why my Mark 1 needed an anti-knock additive but his (Mark 2 ?)didn't. I had remembered I thought that the Mark 1 had more power than a Mark 2, but ascribed it to the wrong reason.
  • My W Reg Vectra 23 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I don\'t think that it deserves the negative press and publicity that the car has attracted, but perhaps I would have a different view if I came from a background of driving BMWs, Mercs, Lexus etc.... Which leads to the question..... isn\'t it all relative? Cheers. TT.
  • Ecotec PowerBoost 23 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The Haynes manual does not appear to show an airflow meter on my car's engine, only an inlet air temperature sensor which is an integral part of the fuel injector retaining cap. Can I safely spray the PowerBoost into the convoluted trunking which leads from the air filter box to the fuel injector, as there is a jubilee clip I can loosen to insert the tube from the can of PowerBoost? Thanks in advance for your help, Stephen Rodrigues

  • Dead Battery 25 May 2003 (Forum)
When I got back in the car, which had been starting and running perfectly, I turned the ignition key and all the lights went out and the engine wouldn't turn. Having checked all the obvious, tight battery leads, bang the starter motor etc the owner of the shop brought out his battery tester. It read 9.99 volts out of 12 and 8 amps out of 300+ so it was obvious the battery was well and truly shot. Bought a new battery, fitted it and everything was hunky dory.
  • Choosing an urban car 16 May 2003 (Forum)
I can't make a rational choice except I think maybe the Civic could have been thrashed by the uncaring. The Jazz is a horrid colour, so the Yaris is leading by a nose. Anything I've overlooked?
  • 216 cutting out 25 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I only had about 15 minutes on it yesterday, and established by putting our timing lamp on the HT leads, it is losing sparks, but of course it could be losing fuel too if the main relay is dicky. We have not got a Rover pod for our scanner, and whilst my first thoughts are either ignition amplifier or relay, if anyone (Andrew?)
  • Driven Tonight 31 Mar 2002 (Forum)
He then drove each car like Steve McQueen on steroids through aircraft hangars, a covered passageway and out onto the airfield in the usual opposite locking , tyre smoking manner that prospective purchasers of this type of limousine will obviously demand. To set the standard for this performance they were pursued by the class leading hot rod ? a Lexus 400 driven by the new racing driver female in the show. The aim of the pursuit was to beat the Lexus to an aircraft for the getaway. This was followed by the cars driven over speed bumps at 25mph; the measure for success here was how much champagne was spilt, and lipstick smudged, by the rear seat occupants.
  • Yesterday, all my troubles ... 30 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I see that Halfords still have them on sale but wonder if, in this age of electronic geewhizzery, they are worth the outlay? Also at that time, when I still had lead in my pencil, there was a monthly mag called Motor Sport. It had a green cover. Despite the title it had quite a bit of off-track coverage, e.g. it was a good source of adverts for veteran/vintage/ PVT cars.
  • Diesels in the US 14 Mar 2002 (Forum)
One of the more interesting events was a debate about trying to convert Americans to the idea of driving diesels. The govt regulators there are very keen that diesel take up increases and Ford seem to be leading the efforts to educate. (except in California where they don't want to know apparently). Why does Europe have such a high proportion of diesels? Is it all to do with fuel costs do you think? (A conference note: The (ex-Jaguar MD) new top Ford guy Nick Scheele was an excellent speaker and comes across as very credible.
  • Audi 80 stopped! 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Well, I put the cat out, put the lid on the cooking and went to investigate. A quick check with a key stuffed up a plug lead showed no spark. The engine turns over beautifully and (paranoia in charge) I even prised over the cam belt cover and *yes!* it's still there! Fuel seems to be there (singed hair). This car has a distributor on cam 1 and a rotor arm, from a mini coil (I've never seen one so small - perhaps they should contact family planning).
  • good help wanted about a BX. (maybe DW can help) 16 Feb 2002 (Forum)
my mother is selling her citroen bx, and i was wondering how much she should charge, its a 1987 E, 16TRS, metallic silver, 111,000 miles, some history, automatic, long tax and test, and has had in the past 6 months - rear spheres, new battery, alternator, HT leads, plugs, full service, ignition coil, starter motor, ignition lock, and in the past year has had tons more done (including the timing belt), the interior is in mint condition, very slight rust on one of the rear doors, but no other rust, she was thinking about £325, but put it up for £450.
