BMW 5-Series E61 Touring (2004 - ) - 25,000km report BMW 530d 9 Jun 2009 (Forum)
This engine revs and offers torque instantly, a big and unexpected improvement over the old one. Onto the i-Drive. I liked the old i-Drive, the simple top level menu hiding bewildering complexity underneath had an element of the old GEM graphical user interface from the 80s Atari home computers about it. -
All cars - Administration charges - why are they allowed? 28 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Im aware that quite a few car sales garages are adding circa £200 administration charges to their cars both old and new. Now obviously with haggling ( i said id walk and find a dealer who does not charge extra rather than pay) you can get it removed. -

Roadside Car Sales - Legal to park ? 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Why is that? Could it be someone complained he is a trader? I read somewhere here that there is an old law which states it is illegal to put up a car for sale on the public road or something similar. Is this true and what is the law called? {subject line altered to reflect content - PU } -
Car sale overseas - V5 25 May 2007 (Forum)
I have sold a car on ebay (old banger, £200) to a guy from Poland, who's taking it back to Poland on a car transporter. Do I just mark it as 'permanent export' (section 11) says 'I declare that the vehicle will be exported on the date shown opposite.' -
Need opinions for car rejection 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi I am at present discussing with my solicitor the if we could reject my new Lexus IS250.( 3 weeks old 250 miles) The law states that if the car is of unsatisfactory quality as judged by ' the average buyer' then it can be rejected. The question is if you had bought a car and within 10 minutes it developed rattles that required extensive repair..ie dash removal and now replacement Removal of front door trims and modification And lastly now taking the b posts apart to look for loose wires etc would you consider it reasonable to reject the car. -
m40 burnt out car transporter. 31 May 2005 (Forum)
Well the old M40 was a mess tonight. Burnt out car transporter northbound near stokenchurch. It had been a big fire, every car (at least 6) was a smoking shell. Hard to tell what they were but all were estates, and judging by the rear light holes high up the rear pillars they looked like Accord tourers, possibly volvos. -
White cars and rust 16 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I can't understand why anybody orders a white car anyway as I don't think any model of car looks good in white, I would rather have the much maligned 'doom blue' colour! -
Peugeot 308 SW 2000 - Clutch Problems Peugeot 308 9 Jan 2019 (Forum)
There are no strange noises coming from the clutch as far as I can hear. I have tested it and it sometimes - but more rarely - happens in neutral or when the car is in gear but the engine is not on. The bite point is still high up and gear changes smooth. The Peugeot garage seem to think that it is some dirt on the rod that is causing friction and have treated the problem with some goos old WD40, which seems to have helped but not eradicated the problem. -
Fiat Panda Multijet 2006 - Suitable fault code reader 3 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend a not too expensive fault code reader that will work on a 2006 Panda diesel? I've always serviced our cars, and have worked a lot on classics, and have rebuilt several classic engines. However, an old f*** like me grappling with modern automotive electronics would be like a chimpanzee trying to do brain surgery. -
Fiat Punto (Mk 2) - What to do about key? 25 Sep 2012 (Forum)
With the new lock in, i removed the unique proggrammed chip out of 1 of the old keys (the small 1cm long capsule i presume?) and placed it in the new key, but whatever i do with the chip or key, i can't seem to make the CODE light go out, so i have 2 questions: 1. Does anyone know of any way i can make the new key and barrel, with old chip work in my car? -
VW Camper - Halford's battery guarentee 17 Mar 2012 (Forum)
This showed battery at 12 point something, with engine running13.6 and with "everything" on the same 13.6. I was now told there was no manufacture's fault and nothing could be done as it was over a year old. They were told that as it was not holding a charge it was not performing as a car battery should etc as per "sales of goods act" Result but with same guarentee running out as on old battery. -
Peugeot 206 1.4 - Screech / howl / whistle 17 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hey people, The subject is based on what I and old posts seem to describe the noise as but all the posts seem old and unanswered so i've brought it up not only because my car is doing it but to try solve it too. Anyway, my screeching seems to kick in at around 60 (but not always) and once it has done it, it may happen at as low as 33 (so far). -
18yr old son passed Driving Test today - now what? 8 Nov 2009 (Forum)
The failed first test earlier in the year made him realise that he doesn't know everything :-)... However now he has to; 1) get insured, 2) buy a car??,... -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2004 1.9 dCi poor fuel consumption 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have noticed recently that the fuel consumption of the wife's Scenic has dropped by about 10-20%. The car has a fairly awful daily commute through very slow traffic but normally manages 36 mpg. This is now 31 mpg. Engine still starts well and no drop in power. The car was serviced at 2 years old and is now 3.5 years old. -
Ford C-Max TDCi - Long Term 22 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The FFOC has many posts commenting on the EGR valve, as well as a host of other niggles that Ford dealers, in general, seem incapable of fixing first time! I get the feeling that maybe CR diesels haven't got the long term staying power that diesels of old have. My idea at present is to buy around the 2yr/60k mark from auction, Zetec or above to get the sliding seats. I would be planning to keep the car for 4 years and taking it up to 120k. Now I know there are backroomers who have hit 100k plus in their TDCi's - but they won't be 6 years old. -
Fair price for Passat TDI PD estate 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Can any of you guys in the know please tell me what would be a fair price to ask (and realistically expect to get) for my VW Passat in a private sale and where is the best place to advertise it (I have used Autotrader previously). It's a pre-facelift TDI PD 115 Sport estate on an "X" plate and was 6 years old this month, I've owned the car from new and it has done 90,000 miles. It as all the toys as standard (full electric pack, auto dimming mirror, climate control, 6 disk DC, etc., etc.) I would estimate that 90% of the mileage has been long motorway journeys and with only me in the car. -
Is my old Golf a write off?? 1 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I got someone to look at my 1990 1.3 Golf today which I thought might have had issues with the carb, but the guy who looked at it told me it is missing...
