But on the other hand theres less to go wrong on the Civic, so in the long run it'll cost me less. Opinions? -
VW Golf - 1.4 TSI engine reliability 30 May 2014 (Forum)
I am looking to change my Ford Focus turbo diesel. I now only do 10K miles pa with lots of short runs and need a small car for day to day use but which is large enough and powerful enough for comfortable holiday touring in France. Having read all Honest John's warnings about the potential problems with modern turbo diesels particularly on short runs, I have been looking for a petrol engine. -
Mondeo 1.8 TDCI 2009 - Diesel Knock & Judder 4 Apr 2014 (Forum)
When I start the car it usually takes 2 attempts when cold weather and with some white smoke. The car then runs fine and is generally quite quiet until it starts to warm up. The diesel knocking then starts and gives a little judder when setting off from a standstill but worse in warm weather, although the judder stops when the car is up to temperature the knocking on acceleration continues. -
Zafira 1.8 petrol '07 - Intermittent misfire 13 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Should I risk it ? but as its running fine again I may not see any improvement. If thats the problem would the light go off or need re-setting ? (Also read about wrong grade oil causing valve lifters to stay open etc?) many thanks, Mike -
Should I sell my Renault megane 59 1.6 petrol. 21 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Or should I buy another small diesel run around. Eventually I will change the megane to a diesel car of some sort, but am wondering if I will get value driving the megane now or selling it. It has very low mileage 8000 per year but this will dramatically increase if using it for work. -
Ford Focus 1.8 Diesel TDCi 2004 - Coil light flashes bad starter 6 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Car will start fine 10 seconds then starts coughing blue/white smoke diesel smell and will struggle to run unless I drive away and warm it up then runs ok, could it be air/temperature related? have had injectors tested, changed filters, cleaned EGR. I have an F-super 2 diagnostic but it doesn't recognise my ECU, I have tracked the unit and it is a standard Ford unit although seems to be 2002 spec, I have a feeling these late 2004 models were a collection of old bits before they changed engines the following year.Have looked at some of the sensors but nothing obvious. -
Worst diesel you have owned? 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I suppose you get what you pay for. Incidently I have bought a Touran 2.0 TDI Sport and got 48mpg on a run with it and it feels twice as fast and twice as solid as the Scenic, different money however. What is your worst diesel car and why? -

2007 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 petrol - Wynns fuel injector cleaner 22 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hello, I get an intermittent fault about 3 times a year. This is the same fault I have put on the forum before where the car suddenly runs very slowly or stalls. A good run on the motorway always fixes the problem. I am considering putting a bottle of Wynns fuel injector cleaner for petrol engines into the fuel tank. Some of my friends say not to touch any fuel cleaners with a bargepole, that it will cause damage to my engine. -
All - E10 -not a boring government form but new biofuel 12 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Thats 10% Ethanol mixed with regular unleaded. My question is does anyone have any idea if their old car will run on this stuff? Or will it dissolve the fuel system from within? Cos I don't. A bit of googling mainly from australian sites suggests my 2003 Xtrail will run on it but Nissan do NOT recommend it. -
vw golf tdi 150 2003 - mk4 golf tdi water loss 22 Jan 2013 (Forum)
my temp gauge is erratic. barely moves but on a long motorway run it hit middle. i knew of a water leak but thought i had sorted it with radweld. shorter journeys made the 'check coolant' message show on dash, but never made temp gauge move. a good motorway run made gauge get to middle. then back to nil. then eventually middle again (90f) then went as high as 110, water boiling, but no 'check coolant' message. i do have a replacement stat. car drives fine, though IMO slightly down on fuel economy compared to book figures. recently changed oil. no mayo or sludge. header tank looks sound. no obvious leaks anywhere. engine has only done 61k. could the stat be causing water loss? -
Traffic Lights 30 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Turn off traffic lights at non peak times, especially at night. I have no idea how much it costs to run a traffic light, let use use a figure of £1 a day. Around a traffic island were I live there are 20 lights, that is running cost of £7300 per year,. Another roundabout has 16, the next one also has 16, a few yards up the road there are 12 on the next roundabout, stopping traffic at 3 am when there is non. -

Ford S-MAX - Need to buy an MPV. High mileage? 18 Sep 2012 (Forum)
The options are: 1. Renault Grand Scenic 1.5 turbo diesel, 61 plate, 10,000 miles, around £11,500 - low running costs, still in warrranty, but concerns about reputation and reliability. A bonus is the back seats can be used, albeit tightly, by an adult. 2. Ford S-Max Titanium 2.0 turbo diesel, 09 plate, 100,000 miles, around £9,000 - slightly more expensive to run but not to bad, no warranty but ful service history as ex-lease. -
Ford Focus 2 1.6 Petrol - Fault Code P0304 29 Aug 2012 (Forum)
This car, at 45000 miles, suddenly started running very badly, and the engine management warning light started flashing, but did not remain on. The car felt like it had a fuel problem, as if running out of petrol, and wouldn't go above 50mph. The main Ford main dealer hooked it up to their test equipment today, and diagnosed fault P04304 - misfire on cylinder 4. -

Citroen Xantia 2.0 HDi - How do I solve Peugeot/Citroen P0220/P0221 codes? 20 Jun 2012 (Forum)
There is talk of a wiring loom trick but my Xantia doesn't match what others have talked about (i.e. Two MAF wires joining to one) and I'm running out of ideas to fix this problem! I'm almost 100% certain it is not the sensor. I get a management light on when driving, there is no loss of performance or poor running. All the fault code says is "Accelerator Position Sensor Circuit Improbable" Any help would be appreciated. -

Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI - Ford Mondeo 54 plate Turbo actuator problem 16 Mar 2011 (Forum)
The actuator intermitantly fails, I have read lots of posts regarding replacing the complete turbo or trying to have the actuator repaired but mine still intermitantly work. On a cold engine the actuator will work and run all day until the engine is turned off and when restarted with a warm engine, the actuator doesnt work, I get the coil plug light flashing on the dash and the car runs with very low power (but not limp home mode) and the arm that controls the vanes does not move forward.
