i bought passat 55plate on aug 12 from vw dealer the day i drove to home i felt steering vibration and engine vibrates lot at idle i did't have time to go back to check the car but i phones couple of times later (after 2 months) i went to local vw dealr to investigate the cause they told its timing which was not done or bad job (actually my car had cambelt dont when they sold to me as per service book ) i rang the dealer (where i bought the car) told the situration they said to bring the car to look in to it to fix i dropped the car they fixed it they said its not timing its oil filter and fuel injections cleaning was done to fix the vibartation i felt the diffrence took the car back service manager mentioned that due to supermarket  diesel it gets like that ( i only  had three monhts ) so as per your knowledge is this repeat again or will it be ok do i need to replace the fuel injectors going forward? i have warrany for a year used car one does it cover the fuel injectors or time and distace service will cover it ??
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Time for a change - but how to get a good deal? 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
It's a 2005 05 Ghia X with 37k miles, FSH and factory optional 18" alloys, Sony 6cd (in dash) and xenon (HID) lights. It;'s the 2.2 diesel so it has pretty good performance and economy and low road tax. Most trade guides put it around £7k as a trade in. I took it back the car supermarket I bought it from and was offered £5.5k - this is quite a loss on a car I paid them £12.5 for 2 years ago, although not as bad as the fact the list price was around £22 k then.
  • MINI v's Grande Punto V's MG ZR - help! 5 May 2008 (Forum)
The Punto would be 06 or 56 with very few miles - infact the deal they are doing on a brand new limited edition stripe is good as well but a bit out of budget and the ZR will hopefully bring the diesel into the pot and be top spec maybe 56 plate/ Whats more sensible in terms or residuals/cost of ownership over 3 years and 50,000 miles? She has her heart set on a MINI again - should never have got rid the first one she had, but thats another story, but after spending all yesterday being hassled by salesmen and trawling every dealership and car supermarket in about 20 mile radius those are the options and I think the MINI may be the wrong one....
  • Going to be doing high mileage... 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Morning all, Went to trade my car in at a large supermarket at the weekend. I commute Manchester to Leeds every day, and am finally getting around to getting a diesel (6 months too late...) Unfortunately, the trade-in I was offered has made me re-think.
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - What to replace it with? 28 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I think the diesel is justified; dad does about 18k a year, lots of it motorway, and this car has averaged about 46mpg over it's life. It's nice and highly geared for a five speed box. Dad wants to replace with the same.
  • Help please with Ford diesel 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi guys I am posting this on behalf of my brother in law who has a problem with a Ford diesel Mondeo that is rapidly spiraling out of control. He is becoming depressed about it so I am trying to get some information to help him. The story is that at the start of this year he purchased an exactly three year old Mondeo diesel, 2 litres.
  • Used Market Petrol v Diesel Study 12 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Used Market Petrol vs Diesel Study With ever rising fuel prices theres more incentive than ever to switch to a diesel car. The higher prices of diesels have led to many studies by reliable motoring magazines into the 'payback time' for new diesels in comparison to petrol models.

  • Fuel Consumption (again) 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Well further to various discussions on the subject, I decided to try out using some Millers diesel additive with my regular fill up with Supermarket diesel in my Scenic. Normally I get low 40s mpg. Well I was proud as punch when, just before I went to fill it again, that my trip computer was telling me that I had averaged 49mpg!
  • Mondeo 2014 2.0 TDCi 140 ZBE - Mondeo TDCi - next 50k miles? 1 Feb 2017 (Forum)
How about the DPF? I try to keep it clean by my manner of driving and using only Shell Nitro diesel. Any pointers most welcome.
  • Ford Mondeo Mk4 - 2010 1.8 TDCI (125) hesitation 30 Jan 2016 (Forum)
It has been to the garage, but due to the problem being intermittent and it does it when it feels like, the diagnostics check hasn't provided any clues. I have changed from using the cheap supermarket diesel to using the branded stuff like Shell, but it hasn't really made any difference. The car has only done 29,000 miles although it has had one previous owner. I do think the problem is getting worse as today the hesitation felt a bit stronger than usual, more like a jolt on occasion rather than the usual flutter if that makes sense.
  • Would like to part exchange my Jaguar for a Peugeot 407 - is this a good deal? 6 Sep 2012 (Ask HJ)
I am thinking about swapping my 50,000 mile 1999 Jaguar S-Type V8 for a 2008 Peugeot 407 Coupe 2.7 V6 HDi Sport with 29,000 miles. I am trying to get the...
  • Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Scuba Diving - Don't use a Honda...... 5 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I want the same EX spec as my Accord, ie leather , satnav, cruise control but something less fuel gulping than the 2.4 engine and without the possible £ 400 tax in the future. Although I don't mind one way or the other I think a diesel is the best option , I want at least a 2 litre and I prefer Japanese reliability. I was thinking along the lines of a CR-V or similar but it may not save me that much in running costs. My local Honda agent is good but tends to put £1000 on the top of car supermarket price for similar vehicles.

  • Replacing 2 cars - Ideas? 30 Sep 2023 (Forum)
I'm now only doing 2 main trips a week, 25 miles round trip from Chester to Wrexham. The rest is school, supermarket, etc. So i'm looking at a city car really or around that size. Ideally 55+mpg, under 10yrs old. Have looked at i10, Aygo, Picanto, etc. Is there anything that stands out? Car 2 - For my wife, £8k budget including trade in.
  • Suggestions for used car please 12 Oct 2021 (Forum)
They live in the suburbs of Bath, which is notoriously car-unfriendly. Occasional longer trips at weekends. Diesel would not be suitable. It is planned to be the only family car. She is not a keen driver; he is happy to drive but they don't have any preference for any makes. Main criteria are space and visibility.
  • Fuel efficiency - when to switch 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Petrol is about £4.80/gallon now, so 775 gallons is £3,720/year. The question is, should I get a diesel to cut costs or do I stick with the petrol. Bearing in mind that I work contracts, and the contract is likely to last about 12 months, maybe a little longer, and my likely next contract would be in London, where I wouldn't need the car.
