Laguna Brakes 4 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The Recent snowy weather ( in North Yorkshire) I had to stop all of a sudden for a rabbit, ( this is true, and i will get to the point), this caused the car to slide, but i could control where it was going. I noticed that the brakes made a funny noise (sort of rumbling sound) and the brake pedal was sort of vibrating and pulsing, the car has just past a MOT, and it has ABS to which the ABS light goes out on start-up as it should, the car stops fine under normal breaking conditions- is this normal??? -
uneven rear brakes zx 28 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Breaking on all wheels must be even. The volcane has failed the mot twice because one rear wheel brakes more than the other it now has a 60% imbalance. New discs and pads fitted all round. I am also going to replace the rear offending caliper and also replace one of the pressure regulating valves. has anyone any tips on how to get the rear brakes right and also how to test the success of any work done without taking it for yet another mot. -
Passat brakes - update 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
He did a visual inspection of the discs and said that there was signs of, for example, the car being idle for a time as the shape of the pads was evident on the rear discs; it was this that could be causing the 'jerky brakes.' He then went on to say that a VW memo had said that corroded brake discs weren't covered under VW's warranty!! Have now written a letter back to the supplying dealer with the situation. Haven't had the car two weeks yet, it has only done 5000 miles, so watch this space with their reply!! -
"Clicking" brakes 26 Mar 2001 (Forum)
When mentioned to a salesman, he suggested it was because it's new, which sounds like flannel. Can anyone suggest the real explanation? Car does not have ABS, but brakes are servo-assisted. -

Nissan Micra N-Connector 0.9 - Nissan Micra 2018 rear brake adjusment 27 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Can anyone give me the rear brake adjustment and hand break adjustment methods for my 2018 Micra. I hope they are not the self adjusting type that never work. There is a CKS Torx screw in the break drum has this anything to do with the adjustment? -
Citroen C3 1.6HDi Diesel 2005 - Brake pedal clunks on startup 28 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I've noticed that on start up there is a clunk from the brake pedal, it physically moves once the key is released and engine starts normally. It can be quite loud sometimes and not at all at others. It occurs intermittently and at first I though it was a ventilation flap slamming shut, it's that sort of noise. -
hyundai i10 2011 - front brake pads renewal 15 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I have been told pushing the slave cylinder back with a G clamp can invert the rubbers in the master cylinder and contaminate the ABS system. If I clamp the brake pipe and open the bleed nipple a little and push the cylinder back, will I have to bleed the system after fitting the pads. Anyone know the correct procedure for this job ? -

we have an 06 and a 59 plate couple of aygo's,both are used at least 6 days a week;both when they got to 20k failed their mot's due to severe corrosion of their discs and resulting imbalance of the brakes- I have always run fords before usually taking them up to 70k before new discs were needed is this the price you pay for economical cars! -
BMW 5 Series E39 - Brake pipe corrosion 13 Jan 2012 (Forum)
My MOT station advised me to have the brake and fuel pipes on my 11 year old 5-series BMW cleaned of corrosion and protected. My local garager suggests cleaning off to bare metal and applying grease, but I am concerned that the gease will wash off leaving the pipes unprotected. -
Volvo V50 2.0l diesel - volvo v50 brake caliper tool. 20 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hi. The rear brake caliper piston requires winding back into the cylinder to change the pads. Questions are precisely what tool is required, who sells it, and does the handbrake automatically self adjust? Finally is it safe to put a spot of engine oil to seep down the handbrake pivot in the calliper or are there plastic bushes in there? -

automatics...... braking 15 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I am unconvinced by the left foot braking technique on autos. i have been driving autos for many years and have tried the left foot but i feel it is far less controlable than the right foot. A bit of research on the net has found that many people don't feel comfortable with it. -
Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - 04 2.0 - frozen brakes? 5 Jan 2010 (Forum)
In freezing conditions this morning the handbrake light stayed on and the abs light also. Could the brake fluid ( which absorbs water over time) have caused the abs light? I can imagine that the handbrake could be part frozen but would this cause abs problems? Any help or similar experiences would be appreciated. -
Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - 04 2.5 Disc Brake Corrosion 7 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Is there anything which can be done to preserve the discs during such a time? It would seem that most moisture barriers would lessen the friction in the brakes. Any suggestions? -
Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - 97 1.3 Brake fluid renewal- rough volume of system 3 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hello, I'm going to renew the brake fluid in my corolla and was wondering how much the system holds, as a guide. The Haynes manual does not mention the capacity. I'd be interested to know if this varies by a great amount between different makes/models too!
