ive seen on other motoring fora a tendency to reset the cars ECU when rough running is present....i think the proceedure is to disconnect the battery for 5 mins put the ignition in the on position, then off and then re connect the battery...then the ECU re learns all the settings and timing etc etc........does it actually work? I hope the question makes sense....thanks zoo
  • Chrysler Voyager (2004 - 2008) - 05 2.4 Petrol cutting out on decelaration 6 May 2009 (Forum)
I bought a Voyager 2004 2.4litre petrol and its cutting out and hunting from time to time, normally after decelaration. It was perfect according to the old owner. All I did was change the battery. I noticed a silver button under the battery - is this a fuel cut out that could have triggered a fault? Adrian

  • Powered Cool Box for Le Mans 9 May 2008 (Forum)
Le Mans shortly, this year going to take a powered cool box to keep the sausages cool for the BBQ, I have a RAV Diesel 18 months old so battery should be fine. I do not know how much power these things use. My question is how often should I start the engine and for how long to run it to prevent the battery completely draining. Many thanks.

  • Pug 406 multifunction display 9 May 2007 (Forum)
Replaced the battery on 2001 pug 406 a few days ago. Battery was disconnected for a few minutes and now the multifunction display is blank. Everything else is fine - no fuses in the 28 fuse, fuse box or in the engine bay fuse box appear to be blown.

  • no charge warning light 22 Jan 2007 (Forum)
hi, apparently i was reading the other day that if the bulb goes for a burton on the battery charge warning lamp this will cause the alternator to fail as this is the primary circuit that energizes the alternator"magnetic field"on the initial starting/ charging process, so if you suddenly get a flat battery one morning or any time i suppose check the bulb first before shelling out for a recon alternator, does this make sense to all you auto-electricians out there?
  • Renault Megane -- Key Fob Broke -- 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)

  • Passat - rough idle 9 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Just had phone call from distressed Passat owner - he has had a flat battery, replaced it, and now car idles very roughly. (I suspect this is immediately after replacing battery and he hasn't actually driven far) Any ideas - he had some idea of ECU's 'losing' settings and having to re-learn them, but surely the idle setting is the idle setting ?
  • Nissan Primera P10 bulb replacement 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I am replacing a headlamp bulb on my 96 Primera. Mr Hayne's manual advises me to disconnect the negative battery lead before proceeding. Two questions. One What am I risking if I don't disconnect the battery lead? Two. Will I need to input the radio security code if I do disconnect. The code may be hard/impossible to find.
  • Rover 100 - Electrical problem 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone help please with a problem which is driving my wife, our local garage and myself wild? My wife's 1996 Rover 111sli keeps dying with an electrical fault - not charging and the battery going completely flat. We've changed the battery, alternator and regulator. It's an intermittent fault, so every time it's in the garage, having been towed back again, it behaves perfectly. Anyone else had this problem please?
  • Schizo Alternator? 1 Aug 2002 (Forum)
This problem is intermittent and has been going on for about a month. The alternator and battery both checked out fine on a test stand at the shop so I'm confused. While idling, the battery voltage is 12V but drops to 10V after some time or right after stop and go driving. At 2500 RPM the terminals read about 13.5V The tachometer jumps around a lot while driving.

  • Toyota Yaris - Should I buy a Toyota Yaris hybrid (2020-present)? 6 Apr 2024 (Forum)
The car that is always mentioned for its reliability is the Yaris. I also like the new look of them. However, now onto my concern is the battery issues which I’ve read online, it seems to be common. I drive twice a week usually. I am not sure if hybrid would be the right choice especially since I don’t drive often and I do not know if this will degrade the battery.
