  • Turbos 12 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I know drive a Passat 1.8T and often wonder whether I should let it idle for a minute or so after a run. I know it was advisable a few years back, but is it still necessary today.
  • Chipping a Golf 15 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I got this from a mate: "Mind you if you decide to chip you will run the risk of voiding your warranty... unless.... you got for the Oettinger chip upgrade which agrees covers your warranty...but that costs £800 tho..." could he be right?
  • Flat Geodesy in Francaise 21 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Message from Steve Warren of the UK Speedtaps site. Chap from UK driving in France was made to run his wheel over a £400 Geodesy because the French bobbies do not like speed camera warning devices. £400 ! Ouch

  • Vw golf gt tdi 2.0 140bhp 2008 - fuel temp sensor issue 11 Jul 2023 (Forum)
So I've had it in garage today on the diagnostics and it threw a fault code out for the fuel temperature sensor. I got the new sensor straight away, took it back to garage, they replaced it, took it for a run but was still doing it. Back on diagnostics and code had gone. Got told to give it a good run but it's still doing it. It even cut out on me twice which it's never done before replacing the sensor.
  • Volkswagen Polo - MK2F Polo Parade Coupe 1994 M reg starting problems 30 Apr 2021 (Forum)
It won't start with all spark plugs in (at least won't start and run for any length of time more than a few seconds) but if you remove one (any one) and leave three in it will start and tick over. Any ideas on what to check/replace next? I'm thinking hall sensor/sender and/or ignition coil.
  • Mitsubishi Colt CZ2 Di-D 5 door 2007 plate - Suspicious coolant leak around engine 24 Sep 2018 (Forum)
They also put some K-Seal in it, which hasn't worked!  I have had another garage look at it and after leaving it run for nearly 1 hour, again no sign of leaks. Each time I check the engine there is water in the places as I mentioned above and this runs down the front of the engine. I have been to a main dealer today and they want the car in for at least a day to "investigate the matter!"
  • Vauxhall Zafira B 1.6 (55 plate) - Vauxhall Zafira warm start problem. 10 Jun 2018 (Forum)
sometimes suggests a fuel mixture issue.  I’ve tried removing the air filter to ensure good air flow, run a diagnostic to see what the sensors think is the current state of affairs.  But no pointers.   I think the clue is somewhere in the fact that a cold start is strong but the warm start is weak.
  • Ford mondeo 2.0 tdci - Sudden starting issue mondeo MK 4 2.0 tdci 9 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Engine cranks with no firing, sometimes it fires but doesn't start, a few more goes without any firing then hear ot trying to fire for 3 or 4 revs of the engine and so far it just about manages to start. It is generally OK if it's relatively warm, been running in the last hour, if left for a couple of hours it isn't great, but overnight it's terrible. When running it runs great, nothing perceptible in performance, fuel consumption, etc. I assume something must have been on its way out when it first failed to start first time.
  • Cheap running costs for 10k/year commute 3 Dec 2016 (Forum)
The "real world mpg" feature of this site seems to bear this out, with (for example) the Citroen C1 quoted at 68.9mpg and actually obtaining 53. It is difficult and frustrating to assess running costs in this new world where the manufacturers' mpg figures are pure fiction.   Advice appreciated!   Thank you.
  • How low can you go? 26 Sep 2016 (Forum)
With the current low value of scrap comes the possibility of obtaining a running and Mot'd car for next to nothing. But how low can you go regarding cheap cars? I've a wee hobby that involves buying a cheap car, running it for 6mths to a year and seeing just how cheaply it can be done.
  • Any - Hard Shoulders 30 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I don't find it difficult to understand the number of 'accidents' where vehicles plough into others in front of them, even when a stationary vehicle is 'off carriageway' on the hard shoulder, let alone in a 'running lane'. Having had a car run into the back of me in the past, I may be a little bit OCD about this, but: 1. I think any move to do away with hard shoulders should be resisted 2.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B - Dashboard on/off with out key in ignition 24 Nov 2014 (Forum)
So, I will explain the situation and will wait for honorable members to help me. I own a 08 Corsa Ecoflex. Everything was alright until this one day the battery had run flat. I jumped started it and it did start off and ran well. But I was not able to switch it off. The car kept running even after I removed the key. It eventually did switch off. But, the dashboard comes on with all the dashboard indicators switched on by itself at random times without the key in.

I'm having a few minor running problems with my car - I recently had the fuel filter replaced and the brake fluid renewed (and bled properly)...I'm not sure if these issues are related but they've only come about since. Car has 150k on the clock and original clutch...mainly motorway miles
  • Ford Focus 2006/7 1.8 Flexifuel Estate - central locking, locking and unlocking by itself 29 Jan 2014 (Forum)
My central locking is locking and unlocking by itself. I have only noticed this while the engine is running, I don't know if it does this when parked. The first problem happened after I scraped the ice of the car, with the engine running.
  • 51 plate Ford Fiesta Zetec. - Replacing both rear brake pipe sections. 6 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It runs behind the fuel tank - between it bolting to the chassis frame and the underfloor of the car. Also it runs behind the fuel filter - which isn't a big deal really, but a pain to have to remove again.
  • peugeot expert 2005 2.0 hdi - expert 2005 2.0 hdi cuts out, over revs/over runs 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
hi i have a expert 2.0 hdi the mil light kept coming on n off. so i change the fuel filter (seamans) and once i dont that all hell broke lose. now my cab has many different codes. starts up everytime idle no problems drives well but once you are up to speed say in 4th or 5th take your foot of the power then try to reapply engine has cut out apply clutch cabs out cold have to take key out of ignition to get it restarted as if you dont will never start. also when in idle when you turn cab off it over runs 2/3secs but if u have small revs cuts out staight away. also if u hold the revs at 2000 after 5 secs will rev itself up as if you have applied the power hard. i have checked the wiring and found some dodgy wires replace no different changed the filter again nothing. changed the fuel rail sensor nope changed the fuel temperature sensor nope. peugeot say they think its sucking in air from somewhere???
  • Ford Ka - Ford Experts? KA 2003 OBD Code P0030 9 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Car Ka 2003, Dura Tec (Lambda sensor with grey plug)   Hello I have a Ford KA that was running fine, I thought I would change the plugs, oil and air filter as part of a service.   Its really puzzling me as the car was running fine before and never had any issues.   Since I have done this, right away on the second start up the engine check light has come on, I just though I may have knocked a multi plug or something, when removing the spark plugs or the air box.
  • Toyota Carina E - How to keep a 15yr old car running 21 Dec 2011 (Forum)
He owned it from a couple of years old and has been serviced every year / 3000 miles (not by dealer, just basic mobile service) This is my 2nd car, i also have a Ford KA (for day to day) Known issues: Original Cambelt (should have been changed at 60k, but non-interfearance)  Gearbox a bit clunky Drivers elec window doesnt work Temp gauge stuck in middle Boot struts dont open boot, very stiff Havent tried A/C, doubt it will work, but not an issue Economy light on dash doesnt work (probably bulb) Condensation on rear window (put dehumidifier on parcel shelf, not sure if it will work) Planned Maintenance : Air Filter Oil / Filter New spark plugs (not platinum this time) What else should i do? Cambelt? Can i not run it until it breaks? (car only used at weekends 200mi p/m) Gearbox oilchange? Is there any way to fix boot struts, i put wd40 then grease on, helped a bit Is there any benefit to giving it a tank of Shell v-power / fuel save and taking it up the rev range, i doubt my grandfather got above 3000rpm and i know the engine mode changes at 4400rpm?
