  • VW Polo - Fuse spade connector for 12v feed 20 Aug 2012 (Forum)
A crimped spade connector piggy backs on to the rear of the fuse. It seems easy to replace the wiring, however it lead me to think I should get a replacement fuse in case this special fuse, from which the feed is provided, blows.  I've done a search but can find nothing that looks like it.   Anyone know the name - it's basically a car mini fuse wich has been replaced and has a spade connector from which you take your 12v feed.

  • Peugeot 205 - Car Insurance Renewals 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I received an email a week ago from my insurer AA advising that I could rest assured this renewal as their 'AA DEAL CHECKER' would automatically compare quotes from 20 leading insurers to combine the excellent benefits of AA Insurance with a great price. This week my renewal notice arrived from AA with a quote which was about 50% higher than last year.  I also received an email the same day from Moneysupermarket having used my details from last year quoting a premium from the AA with identical cover for about 30% less.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Hesitation from when trying to accelerate 10 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Had the top threaded core plugs resealed due to water leaks. Had a mis-fire (engine management light flashing), replaced spark plugs, leads and coils. Car seemed to run better - no mis-fire. The only issue now is that when asking the car to accelerate it gives a slight hesitation then accelerates. There is no engine management light flashing and it does not happen all the time.
  • Nissan Micra K11 2001 - Flashing engine light: stuck brake? 5 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I'll have to check after toninghts journey home. Brakes work OK, there is no leaking brake fluid. Question: A stuck brake wouldn't lead to a flashing engine light, would it? Or is that a red herring?
  • Ford Mondeo III 1.8 LX - Battery replacement 28 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Halfords do Bosch 'Silver' batteries or Halfords branded 'Calcium' batteries, both of which come up when my car details are entered, but then again so do their Lead Acid versions, so I'm not sure how trustworthy the suggestions are. Does anyone know whether either the Bosch Silver or Halfords Calcium are safe to use and, if so, is there anything I should be aware of when fitting the new one please?
  • 2000 Audi A6 2.4 Tiptronic - Tapping Engin noise 30 Oct 2010 (Forum)
It sounds as a loose bolt, knocking against something, I have tried to find out where its coming from by using a stethoscope, listened to various areas, parts to no avail. Could you please give me some possible leads before I take it to the dealer. The car drives fine, the noise does not get worse with higher revolutions, it stays constant. Any suggestions?, highly appreciated. Regards Peter
  • Vauxhall Corsa B - Spark plug shorting 3 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Engine management light does not come on.  For those not familier with Corsa there are no HT leads as the coils sit directly on top of the plugs.  I cannot see any damage to the rubber socket for the middle plug. Would some kind soul who knows why this is happening be good enough to enlighten me?

  • Where's the scam here ? 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I didn't have an accident last year and I briefly toyed with the idea of stringing him along to see where it might lead but time was a bit pressing so I asked where his information had come from, but he spoiled the game and rang off. Where is the scam and how would I have been parted from my money ?
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Millers diesel power ECOMAX 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Leading on from long term caretaking of new Octavia, would it be worthwhile running the car on this? It is the 1.9 105bhp PD engine, used it before on old Mondy never saw any difference, but would have needed a strip down to see if any cleaner inside.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 00 1.4 Starting issues 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The car does few miles, probably 5k this year and is serviced properly, however a service is due soon. I've bought some HT lead testers, which I'll try tomorrow... any other advice greatly appreciated. Regards H.
  • Current highest mileage with NO engine repair 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Only the cambelt tensioner pulley was replaced [by me] - but not even the cambelt. Oh, and the HT leads once. No coolant change, apart from an early water pump failure at around 60,000. Should be a short thread - will most be German, French, Swedish or Japanese?
  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 99 1.3 Poor spark on 2 cylinders 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
My KA lost power a few weeks ago and started running on 2 cylinders. Had the usual spark plug problem (now resolved) and have changed the spark plugs, leads and coil pack but I am still getting a poor spark on 1 and 4 whilst 2 and 3 are fine - which seems to imply the coil pack but I have changed that again to another brand new one and I still get the same problem.
  • Parking on a very steep driveway 10 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Or should I leave it in gear, release the clutch to let the engine take the strain, and then apply the handbrake as a backup? Will parking in gear lead to additional wear on the engine? Thanks in advance!
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W211 (2002 - 2009) - 07 2.2 damage to wiring harness in engine bay 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Failure of wiring harness in engine compartment leading to shorting and failure of Fuse 57. Root cause was the wiring harness rubbing against one of the engine compartment insulation fixing screws spot welded to the bulkhead and abrading the insulation of the engine control unit wire until it shorted.
  • Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 99 2.0D Is there a HDi problems FAQ? 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
(Certainly not "take it to the dealer and expect the fault code reader to work on a 9 year old car" :o)) Any leads, or input, gratefully received.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1993 1.6 Would like to get this car to 200k 26 May 2008 (Forum)
It judders when I pull off, and sounds uneven when idling, feels like it's not firing properly. I've ckecked the leads are on ok and it shouldn't be damp as it's roasting for a change. The problem receeds after i've been driving for a while?? Could something just have been knocked during MOT?? Would appreciate any ideas with much gratitude.
