Replacement car suggestions 21 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Clearly this kind of usage is not going to sit well with a fairly highly-tuned car that?s already done a lot of miles. Also there?s the fuel economy issue - I have averaged 28mpg since starting the new job - not bad for a 200bhp car, and I get a very good rate for mileage, but I can?t help thinking that I would be substantially better off with a more economical car. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Dad-to-be swapping small van for a LAV - which one 20 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Also, all LAVs I'm looking at has sliding doors so it'll be really easy to get the baby/kids in/out. I'd like to keep it for as long as I can. Despite driving diesels for a long time, I've become quite turned off modern common rail diesels as I feel they're less reliable with expensive consumables - DPF, DMF and the fragile injection system. I also am keen on converting the next vehicle to dual fuel (to petrol & LPG/propane) to save on running costs & improve emissions. -
Toyota Auris 2.0 D-4D - Persistent engine problems -garage cannot trace it 21 May 2015 (Forum)
I have power loss problems and poor fuel consumption. Initially, on cold mornings starting was difficult - as if the heater plugs were dead. Once started it seemed to run quite well. Consumption soon dropped from 50mpg to 46mpg. -
Day trip to Germany - Random Ramblings 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I think the engine can be made to keep running when parked by putting the handbrake on!? The car was an odd spec. Heated seats but with fabric not leather, only speedo, RPM and fuel gauges, no temp gauge. Steel wheels with Korean Hankook tyres, surely they aren't original eqipment on any BMW? Traction control and a very nice diesel engine (Turbo?) The 6 speed gearbox was awful, very baulky and hard to engage gears when moving. -
Citroen C4 Picasso 7-st (2007 - ) - - 10 day hire car review 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Didn't want baby seat in back so was only my 5 year old in the 'boot' but was easier for her to climb in through the boot. On drive home electronic fuel guage was infuriating. Was a take away full and return empty deal, and was hard to guage how much fuel was left. Put 2 lots of EUR 5 diesel in, but didnt register on kms left or guage flashing away- but made it back with 45 kms to empty showing. -
Used cars of the year 13 Oct 2019 (Forum)
It’ll do 40mpg on a run and has plenty of power too. The 2.0 diesel is a worthy, but as with all modern diesels there’s plenty to go wrong as it ages but it is one of the better ones. I would’ve chose the Mazda 6 2.0 Skyactiv but you’d need £1,000 more to open up that option other than high mileage examples or cars with missing histories etc. -
2yrs on from buying a 9yr old dpf-equipped diesel 10 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Economically - use the engine torque (decent) to get up to speed and make sure it gets a healthy dose of sustained 2000-2500rpm for you know what. 6th gear at 70mph pulls 2200rpm. What do I feed it? Shell V-Power diesel 95% of time, unless there's a reason I cant get hold of it (unlikely)MPG - I'm getting 39-41mpg very consistently, as it's official fuel consumption claims. Mileage as of 0900 9th Sep 2019 - 110852 So....what has it cost thus far? -
Skoda Yeti 140 ks 4x4 or Honda CR-V 2.0 150 ks? 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
There is acceleration of about 10 sec (per specification) from 0-100 km/h, but It's not that bad, but still different to diesels we tried..There is missing the acceleration beween 80-150 km/h. The perfect would be diesel engine here, but it's so much more expensive here. Becouse of low torque i had to drive a bit more nervous (there is a peak of torque in one rpm area, so it's dont have smooth driving of torque of diesels in greater rpm range), and trying to have right gear and right rpm. -
VW Golf 1.6 FSI SE - Electric car lease vs Used Car 22 Jun 2019 (Forum)
- So car insurance costs shouldn't be a significant issue. I've always bought second hand cars (petrol & diesel) but now I'm wondering if I should do a lease of some sort for an electric car to save on fuels costs However, I've done the sums and I don't think I can find a deal that makes it more cost effective for me. -
Vauxhall Vivaro - Smoking/misfire/rough under load 5 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Other things I've done : New fuel filter - old one looked clean and no metal particles that I could see. New air filter Spun egr 180 Injector leak off test Unplugged maf - engine only revs to around 2k Checked pipe from map to inlet manifold is not blocked Checked for leaks on map pipe & both pipes going to boost sensor. -
Honda CR-V - How negotiable are costs nowadays - or wait? 11 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Went to test drive a 2016 petrol CR-V SE+ today. Found it much more responsive than the 1.6 diesel and am considering a purchase. Our existing car is a month away from new tax & MOT and I'd prefer to get a new one before then if possible. However the car is newer than we wanted and thus more expensive - it's up at £15,885. -
Peugeot Boxer 2.5 2001 smoking after belt change 14 Apr 2016 (Forum)
They have sorted the leaks but not the smoke and have now been told it may be the injectors again, i have explained that the van has no power and these type of injectors don't just go like that and they go over time. Well its booked in again tomorrow. I have suggested fuel pump out of sync but was tolt they have checked it three times. Before cambelt change When drove in was a bit smokey on acceleration also on first start up. Now . Smokes like its been on 60 woodbine a day for a 100 years , down on power , drinking diesel like its going out of fashion. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso 2002 - Awful rattley engine noise 9 Jun 2012 (Forum)
To try to articulate, it sounds very 'tappety' and not far from the noise you might expect from a diesel - although not as intense. Engine response seems fine, no warning lights (one was reset during service) and no loss of power or excessive fuel consumption (it's the not the most economical in any case!) -
Medium Automatic Required in place of Hybrid. 19 May 2012 (Forum)
Their other car is a Pixo auto - a 4 speed box effort and they are happy with it. They dont seem to be bothered with the fuel economy or the road tax...... -
Electric car technology 21 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Petrol and diesel fuel prices are set to soar. But hope is on the horizon as the progress towards electric cars is accelerating. Most car manufacturers are hurrying to make sure that they are not left behind. -
Audi A6 Saloon - Oil Light 19 May 2011 (Forum)
A new issue is that the water temp gauge drops to minimum in one step and then returns to its usual 90 ° C also in one step intermittently but not necessarily at the same time as the oil warning light so this may or may not be connected to the oil light fault. V6 Engine runs smoothly, sounds as good as a diesel ever does, no oil leaks at all, oil level is always at max on the dip stick, oil changed using correct grade regularly and oil is acceptably clean on a spot test, steady oil temp on gauge when running, fuel economy is as good as ever, all fluid levels are OK and no sign or smell of anything abnormally hot, turbocharger can be heard spinning down sweetly when engine is turned off. -
Campervan - Help please 31 Oct 2009 (Forum)
September). We are novices and would welcome any advice. What we think we know: ? 2.3litre or bigger diesel engine (fuel economy is important to us) ? Needs to be 16-21ft (want to access some more remote places) ? Probably 2001 or newer (We are told that breakdown cover is difficult/expensive to come by for vehicles over 10 years old) ? -
Current trends reduces new car desirability? 3 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Don't get me wrong, a bit of inheritance or a lottery win, would have an Aston Martin of some sort and a Jag XF, no problems, but once back in the real world, anything sub 30K doesn't really interest me and I can't afford anything more than 30K. I'm wondering whether it's the fact that everything nowadays is such a compromise i.e. fuel costs have made V8's and V6's a no-no unless you're doing seriously limited mileage and/or the new tax classes.. a diesel is practical but boring, so for the first time if i can't get what I want, i'm not prepared to take a big dive on depreciation etc, so i'll keep what i've got I do spend more than is probably prudent keeping my 9 yr old car in tip top condition (just had both bumpers re-sprayed re minor parking scrapes), but have never been anywhere near to being a champion of bangernomics what's happening to me? -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 05 1.6 110 HDi FAP system codes 19 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Now by admission the car does not do many long trips and is not filled to the neck every time it gets low on fuel, so the top and bottom of my query is can a dealer ask me to pay for this work while it is still under warranty and is way below the 50,000 mile service cycle. (is it correct as I have read, that taking it on a long with a bit of right foot down, it will do a forced regeneration this way) Thanks in advance -
advice on 4x4 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
However, with my current car, I do love the acceleration that it has, so I don't want anything to arthritic. I also am getting bored of spending so much at the fuel pumps so don't really want to go below about 38mpg. My two front runners at the moment are: Subaru Outback Diesel Citroen C-Crosser I will confess to not knowing much about either, apart from having a Mitsu Outlander on loan for a while.
