Peugeot 207 1.6Hdi 110bhp Sport - 35,095miles - DPF Removal 16 Oct 2012 (Forum)
As before, Jay never showed up for the appointment the next day & after explaining to one of his employees what needed to be done, this employee - acting on Jay's instructions - started revving up the engine considerably (3000rpm) to see if the car was 'smoking' & then, opened the engine's compartment, removed a hose-pipe leading to the vehicle's turbo unit & after 'inspecting' it for a few moments, turned to me & announced that both error codes as well as the 'smoking' problem were as a result that my turbo unit needed replacing as oil was leaking to it & also because its bearing was a bit wobbly! -
Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 diesel - First 5 months of ownership 25 Feb 2012 (Forum)
The mud doesn't stick in them as much as with the Kumhos and they're brilliant in the snow. I've commented elsewhere that the Vredesteins aren't wearing as slowly as I hoped or was lead to believe they would so I'll be swapping over again in March. There are a few things I'd change if I could. -
Nerves frayed and shot 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
There is a main entrance on the main road and a secondary entrance from a side road which also serves for lorries to load and unload. I took the secondary road and drove round the back of the building only to find that as the road leads in to the car park, some idiot had just stopped there, left his Kangoo and gone shopping. I couldn't believe it - two cars behind me, getting impatient and a selfish, moronic cretin blocking me in front. -
Gear Oil Questions and Answers 15 Mar 2020 (Forum)
there is a high shock loading on the clutch mechanism that requires protection from wear and slippage. Use of the incorrect oil can lead to clutch degradation and vibration. Why should I choose non-EP straight oils for my classic car? Depending on the age, make and model non-EP gear oils may be required for use in gearboxes and final drives. -
Jaguar XKR-S (2008 - ) - Warranty problem after service confusion. 11 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I think, and correct me if I?m wrong, but the warranty wouldn?t have been available had the car blown up in the time leading up to the service. So within the first 24k miles. Now I?m in the situation that because I cant prove that the service (10k) was done at a particular place they assume it wasn?t done (perhaps rightly or not) therefore short of phoning every Jag dealer in areas I? -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - Determining the market value for a car ins claim 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
We would really be grateful for any advice to help obtain the 'market value' from them. Brief facts: - Insurance company is a leading national company in the car insurance market and the policy is a fully comprehensive one. We also have paid for legal cover with the policy. - The Policy states "The most we will pay is the market value of your car at the time of the loss" -
17,000 miles across 16 countries in £500 Triumph 16 Dec 2013 (Forum)
McLaren confirms it's developing new system to improve visibility in bad weather that's adapted from fighter jets 'His disappearance was a blessing in disguise': Man, 67, rescued after five nights in freezing forest for five nights gets tests which lead to brain tumor diagnosis Mr Raven, a self-employed diesel plant fitter, bought the Triumph for £500 on eBay and restored it himself in preparation for their adventure. -
First wheels 7 May 2007 (Forum)
This was just as well because although the device was insured I had virtually no driving experience, had never taken a driving test and was rushing about as fast as possible on an Irish licence obtained by a friend in Dublin for a quid, backed by a couple of untrue statements and a forgery. I was absolutely terrifying: not only I but all around me were leading (I later realised) charmed lives. I recall a nimbly-leaping traffic policeman one wet morning in the middle of Oxford Circus - in those days an acre or two of unmarked cobbles - and a hitch-hiking airman who begged to be let out on a rainy night in the middle of nowhere on the A1 in Yorkshire, as the speedo needle strained for 135 Ks and the draughty cabin filled with oil smoke once again... -
Forced out of car due to insurance blunder Vol 2. 15 Oct 2008 (Forum)
And on a more everyday topic, the EU plans to put up the cost of getting our car repaired (not a law-enforcement subject I know but still related to Motoring): http://www.ukip.org/content/leading-articles/784-eu-cost-blow-to-british-motorists OK, these, are entries on a political parties website but verify the details and let me know if they are wrong. Those are two examples among many. And, yes, I am a member of UKIP. -
Mazda 3 - Mazda 3 2.2 d engine failure - warranty problem 13 May 2015 (Forum)
I left it until 4pm on the Tuesday before I rang back again, and this time the same guy answered the phone and told me his colleague had been dealing with this case, and she was currently with another customer, so would call be back shortly (leading me to believe they had some news). Wednesday lunchtime and still no call, so I rang again, this time getting straight through to the lady I needed, who said that there was still no news, they were waiting for the report. -
[C]5 go on a trip........ 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Moulding lines are visible everywhere, the doors have the most amazingly cheap plastic opening pockets you have ever seen. Everywhere you look are things which don?t *quite* fit together. You can see where the air pipe leading to the vents protrudes slightly, for example. I am sure it could fit, but it hasn?t been. The sun visors follow the general trend of cheap, plastic, and likely to break. Clearly there was little or no quality control on the design or the building of the car. -
Lorries overtaking - definitive response 20 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Generally speaking, all us truckers drive in the same way and if a hazard appears ahead that the truck behind can't see then the leading truck will give enough warning by using indicators/hazards/dabbing of brake pedal to alert the following trucker to ease off in anticipation of a hazard or follow suit of changing lane etc. If you're following any other vehicle that isn't a truck then you've no idea what they could do or what their intentions are. 3) Pulling out to overtake. -
The complete driver. Why worry? 27 Apr 2003 (Forum)
ON BEING GREEN There is an awful lot of tommy rot talked about the environment, mostly by vegetarians, who enjoy eating it. The political johnnies have seen the chance of a vote, and are making a bit of a fuss about leaded petrol, and all that. Rather than change one?s driving habits it is easier to use camouflage. A couple of bicycles strung on the back of the old jalopy will soothe the tree-huggers and possibly cover one? -
Warning for Rattle: how to do it, how not to do it 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The tyres were all balding and exhaust leaked into the car. The radio did not work. But new plugs, plug leads and distributor cap confirmed a recent tune and all the main running gear seemed fine. I said I would buy it if Herb would sort out the exhaust and radio. He fitted an aerial that made the radio work, sort of - it could get country and western music, anyway - but when I went to collect the car the exhaust still needed doing. -
from Catherine about my motorbike course 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
When you stop to pay your toll at the booth put the exact money in Saran wrap before the ride so you don't inconvenience other drivers waiting behind by fumbling around and also it means you sail through the" Exact Toll - Absolutely No Change Given" lane so you don't have 2 sit behind some bus and choking on his smoke, if riding in a group the lead rider pays the tolls for all. Your right boot will pick up the oil and garbage from the surface at the pay window, so make sure you stay well left, then go through, pull over and stop and wipe your right boot so you get the muck off before you go on else it won't stay on the footrest and could slip off the rear brake pedal. -
16 important OIL questions answered! 8 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Occasionally, touring engines will use oil for no apparent reason. This is often due to the oil level rising in the crankcase due to air retention, leading to oil loss through the breather. The answer is to move to a lighter grade of oil to improve air release. 15) If you need to top up your engine oil, how important is it to use exactly the same brand and type?
