Volkswagen Beetle "Old New shape" - Used Beetle's 28 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Would you be put off by cars with over 100K miles already on the clock? Would you avoid diesel, or does the diesel/petrol argument not matter that much? Out budget is around the 2.5K mark, and for this value, we're seeing cars ranging from 35-140K miles, which is quite a broad range for 12-14 year old cars. -
Main Dealer Servicing on Older Cars 14 Jun 2005 (Forum)
This was quite a blow to the wallet but I convince myself it's best for the resale value and the continued reliability of the car. Am I wasting my money using BMW? Is the dealer stamp *that* valuable on a nearly 6 year old car? Should I just use a decent independant garage in future? Would this be much cheaper? Your thoughts would be appreciated. -
Can I register a car to my 16-year-old? 2 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Hi all, My son is turning 17 this November. My neighbour's car has come up for sale, but she really wants to get rid of it ASAP as she has a new car lined up already. I am happy to take the car now and insure it in my name in the interim three months between now and November, but when we notify the DVLA, can I register it to my son as a 16-year-old? -

Ah, the true banger. 28 May 2021 (Forum)
I remember fondly wandering through the old trade yard at my work sniffing round all the old rot buckets (or cars with character as I called them) which came and went daily. I loved taking in and selling cheap cars, I liked the sort of people who bought them. -

Car phone aerial removal. 26 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am about to dump my old Sierra. Before that I want to de-install a Nokia car phone kit - the old hardwired type not a Bluetooth. It was installed for the company by Vodafone but it will be me to re-install it. Is it possible to remove the aerial glued on the rear window or is it a case of buying a replacement? -
What is it about old diesels ? 30 Mar 2007 (Forum)
A mate here recently sold his R reg 306 TD 100k-miles ish with 12 months MoT for £1400. it needed its' aircon sorting, had 7 year old rear tyres with extensive cracking and was bought by a trader (I assume he saw some money in it ??!!) But why so much ? A 10 yr old non-prestige car with 12 months MoT is worth about £500 to me as long as it has some sort of service history, hasn't been a taxi or had as many owners as I've had hot dinners. -
honda service price variations. 28 Feb 2004 (Forum)
When I mentioned 4 yr discount to garage 4..He replied - Ah yes, it will be 4 yrs old next week - ok - £249.95....Plus free MOT and mini-valet! .( All Honda dealers within 15 mile radius.) The reason Garge 3 and 4 were lower was due to the car now being 4 years old - They said - We can give you a level 4 service. -
Old banger sailed through MOT! 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I've not been on here for a while but I have to say that I am feeling extremely pleased with myself. So many people ridicule old cars calling them old bangers fit only for the scrap heap. I know there's a good mix of for and against on this site! Anyway my ancient 15 year old Corolla sailed through it's MOT yesterday, it cost only the test fee :D I'd expected possible suspension problems but nothing needed changing, altering or fixing. -

Insurance question ? 19 Oct 2005 (Forum)
We've just bought a new Scenic and my wife has transfered her insurance to it, this now leaves her old car in our garage with no insurance on it (we've sold it but the buyers paying in installments). At the time of insurance transfer her provider told her she could not drive her old car on her new policy as she was the owner of both cars! -

Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer - Selling advice when you only have 1 car! 8 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Which will then leave the old car uninsured. I can't sell the old car before we get a new one, as it's our only vehicle. Is there anyone on here else that's been in the same situation that has any tips of how to time all of this? -
Selling old SORNed car: should I tax & insure? 22 May 2016 (Forum)
I've got an old car on my drive that's been declared SORN. It's about 15 years old, but runs fine and has MOT until September. I think it's worth around £500 (it's a 2000 reg 3 litre Jaguar S-Type auto if that makes any difference). -
Skoda - Nobody wants to sell me a car 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Well, after visiting many dealers, none offered me sensible deal and none called back as promised. So, I am now thinking about selling me jamjar privatly and using Drive the Deal to order a car. A few Qs, would the supplying dealer hold the car once its delivered until I've sold mine? If it took a while, could I insure both cars whilst I sell my old one? I need the money I'm getting for my old car to pay for the new one, so ideally I'd either need a bridging loan or pay the dealer when I've sold my old one. -
