Importing motorhome from the Channel Islands 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am toying with the idea of importing a coachbuilt motorhome from Jersey (not a campervan; it's the sort that has a caravan-style body on a chassis which retains the car of a van). It is UK-built, and was bought new in Jersey ten years ago; so far as I know, it was never registered in the UK. -

Tyres 19 Mar 2001 (Forum)
The tyres are due for replacement (185/60x14). Can anybody recommend a good buy. Durability is not so important as I only do about 7,000 miles a year. Most important factors in order are: Handling and roadholding Quietness Low rolling resistance My budget for 4 tyres is around £250. Thanks -

Importing usa car 2 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi,just wondering if it is easy to import a pick up from the us,I am going over in September for the first time, while I am there I would like to find out how to get a pick up sent home, with the dollar being so low I think I could pick up a Dakota or Ram fairly reasonable,Ive been checking out prices on ebay and they are really good value about half of those in UK,as I said this is my first time in us so Im a bit wet behind the ears,is it as easy as going to the docks driving onto a boat and then simply wait for it to arrive and then go to the customs and get it cleared then registered/sva/mot/tax,etc,any info greatly recieved, thanks,James. -
Register an import to get specific plate 13 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I'm considering importing a classic car from Germany, it will be pre-1963 so I guess the registration allocated will take the form of XYZ 123. I'd quite like a specific first 3 letters (OFP), but because the letters haven't run that far yet can I register the car at a certain registration office and get _FP 123 ? -

Are they selling the same 'UK Spec' cars as sold at franchised dealers ? My wife heard on TV that they sell 'grey imports' - what does that mean, whether or not it is true, and should it worry us ? Are they selling imports, and again should that worry us ?! Regards Stephen Wright -

Imported "new" Car 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Began discussions with the new dealer on getting out of the PCP we were in and that we wanted to deal with someone else and would they help us get a new car The new dealer then informs us that the car is an import - and, although on a PCP has no finance outstanding ( news to me on both fronts ) so hpi is clear - although the check also reveals that there are no other details on the system for the car .. Anyway - the fact that we were sold an import ( not to our knowledge ) as a "new" car with only delivery mileage reduces the resale value also it is - in my opinion fraud on behalf of the dealer who sold it to us So my questions are this - what process would we need to follow to buy an import and therefore what documentation is missing and how do we stand as the consumer.... we have demanded all our money back and will take the matter further if needs be as this was a main dealer and the maths just doesnt stack up .... -

Is my car an import ? 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I know there was a trend some years ago for buying RHD cars through continental dealers and shipping them here to save money but if that is the case with mine would it have been registered in Antwerp first and then imported or could it have been delivered direct to the UK or something ? Not important to me now as it is very far on in its life in mileage terms and any value implications can only be marginal now as it is either worth very little or perhaps not a lot. :-( I may well just keep it until it will no longer function but if I were to sell it does this detail have any relevance ? -
Mondeo ST220 30 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Does anyone have any explanation as to how the service book may be like this, do main dealers sometimes dabble in imports on the side to keep things off the books? Or can an import be PDI'd privately by a main dealer on the UK when it hits the shores here. As a happy aside, the car is incredible on the road. An absolute peach, and very understated. cheers smoke -
