  • Old Merc? 12 Feb 2019 (Forum)
The itch to replace my Logan (now just coming up to three years old) with an older semi-classic estate is presenting itself again! I have spotted a 1988 Merc W124 at a local specialist, who I know through using them when I had my CLK. They know the car having serviced it, and it looks in good nick, with 120,000 miles and a good history.
  • Old age Air-con lifespan 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am fairly certain the air-con in my seven year old Mondeo has never been repaired/regassed at all since new, yet it still seems to working fairly effectively if not 100%. I rarely use it winter except to speed up screen de-misting, so it is not as if I have it running regularly outside of the June-August decent weather period....anyone have an older car than mine with air-con that has not needed any work?
  • Any - Old jack as bead breaker 6 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Long time since I last did this, and when I did IIRC driving onto the tyre or using the heel of a bottle jack under the car worked OK.  Not any more. Just slip off. I might have lost the knack.  I suspect my old (Girling) tyre levers were better than my current ones too. I kept the old screw-jack when I scrapped my Ford Sierra, which works a bit, though i think some curved extension plate to the foot to keep the pressure near the bead would work better.
  • Peugoet 306 TD 1.9 - Bottom Hose 6 Jan 2011 (Forum)
My problem is that the notch on my new radiator and the one on the new hose only line uo in a way that the hose is sitting next to the main radiator tank and the only way to get the hose in the right position is to twist the hose itself which leaves a kink in the hose. Stupidly i didnt take note of the old hose on the old radiator before removal just took it all off. The notch on the old radiator is the same as the new but i no longer have the old hose. Could anyone help please as i am quickly loosing patience with this car!!

  • Rust on Mid 1990 cars - which manufacturer is wors 29 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Why don't companies realise that, not only does rust depress resale values and reputations, but also, corrosion seriously compromises the strength of the car? Crash tests are all well and good on new cars, but the average age of cars in Britain must be around five years ? most of us therefor drive cars 5 year olds and over? - So what of the crash worthiness of five year old cars?
