Struggling to choose cars for under £8.5k, family 14 Jul 2025 (Forum)
I know estates exist but I would like to avoid them (can't get the wife to agree to them!). Any other hatchback would feel like a sideways move. It would need to be automatic. And ULEZ compliant. And be nice to drive on the occasional motorway trip. I did have the "German luxury" itch a few days ago and started looking at 10 year old 5 Series', but they're so gosh darn long. -
Toyota Yaris - upgrade/change to bigger/newer car 21 Feb 2024 (Forum)
I am thinking about possibly replacing her for something newer, bigger, with a few more mod cons- I would like something very reliable, economical and preferably an automatic. I would like to spend around £10,000 max but could push slightly higher for a car that I will have for a long time. I appreciate the suggestions -

Hi, I'm owner of Honda CR-V 2008 2.0 Petrol Automatic for over a year. I just get on average just a bit over 20mpg and this is a pain in the ar**. This is because I mainly driving on short distances to city, shopping, lots of stops on traffic lighs etc. -
Nissan Micra - Nissan Micra K11 auto-any good? 25 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Hi there. A friend of mine is giving up her K11 Nissan Micra manual to her son-she wants an automatic as she feels less confident on the roads now. She wants another small car. I know that Japanese cars are very reliable, so I'm looking at Jazz's, Yaris', and some Starlets. However, does anyone know if the Nissan Micra K11 with the CVT auto gear box is any good? -
Who does the best/worst driver-assist features? 14 Aug 2023 (Forum)
The car would routinely mis-identify lanes, sound a siren and flash a screen telling me to stop, pop-up unhelp warning whenever approaching roundabouts, and it would release the handbrake prematurely when starting on hills. It wasn't a feature set that impressed me. I've read that automatic emergency braking (AEB) triggering erroneously has been an issue with some cars, including Hondas. I expected better from Honda. There doesn't seem to be any quality standard for this feature set. -
New car advice - downsizing 6 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Doing a lot less miles these days, no need for the bi-annual run down to the South of France, and public transport where we live is both cheap and good quality. Has to be automatic, hybrid not necessary, but would consider one. Needs to be a bit pokey - recognising that this is somewhat open to interpretation, but for arguments sake, let's say sub 9 secs on the 0-60 dash. -
Suggestions for car - tall(ish) driver 4 Jan 2023 (Forum)
- hatchback or estate. - Not too low. Clio is ok, Accord does not quite agree with my knees - Automatic. - comfort rather than sport. Rented a Corolla (or was it Auris?) which was too firm for my taste, otherwise fine. We are in Portugal, so prices are different but models much the same. -
Used Car Selection - Input Welcome 15 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Criteria for the car loosely specified is: No older than 2017 No more than 15k miles Automatic transmission Suitable for long-term ownership 200k miles plus over 12-15 years Reasonable rear leg room Sat Nav Heads up display a nice bonus Reasonably relaxed motorway cruiser Originally was looking at the Prius and Corolla Tourer Hybrids but the other half was unimpressed by the rather harsh plastics. -

Volvo V60 - avice on changing cars 3 Aug 2021 (Forum)
my husband and I are looking to change our Volvo V40 for something bigger we have a baby on the way and two large dogs and the V40 is just too small. My husband is torn between a Volvo V60 but he would like a diesel automatic as he commutes 1-2 hours per day for work.He would also like as many features as possible such as DAB radio, heated seats, sat nav etc. ideally he wants it under 60,000 miles and a bit newer than his 2013 car. -
BMW X3 - Refusing breath test 9 Dec 2020 (Forum)
My question is this: having refused a breath test (and there is no indication he had had a drink), is there any latitude for the courts to take the circumstances into account or will it be an automatic ban? -
Further to the views re. Vitara offered here .... 24 Dec 2018 (Forum)
(They do the one litre auto. in the SZT which is around £18,500 at a broker.) If you compared it to a KIa Niro Hybrid DCT automatic (as they all are) it would be £21,400 in the "2" spec. at a broker. Both sensible and similarly sized. One has 3 yr warranty, one has 7 yr warranty. One will be more economical fuel wise. -

Toyota Corolla - Hub caps/wheel trims. 22 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I have a T registration Toyota Corolla. 1.6 automatic and after taking my car to a body shop to remove all dents, scratches etc and a respray, I was left with my rather battered hub caps, which had to go. I recently bought some 14 inch Aygo hub caps from a Toyota dealer, who were confident they would fit and said they were the only 14 inch ones the had and thy looked good. -
Which sports/fast car? 11 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Hi, I after a practical 4 door car with a big boot size/good rear legroom that is classed as fast from late 2009 reg onwards. Preferably petrol automatic and preferably a smaller engine so engine can get warmer quicker for cold starts for city driving needed for a quicker better MPG. Looking for the best true cold temps MPG fast/sports cars. None of that 5 litre V8 stuff that will take forever to get warm on UK roads causing unnecessary engine wear/reliability issues. -

Any - New car purchase - which one of these 3? 11 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Looking at the Alfa Guilia Veloce (280 BHP), a BMW 440i Gran Coupe or the Jag XE (300 BHP). All 3 are petrol automatics. I've negotiated (to a point) deals on all 3 cars. The cheapest is the Alfa (£32k), next is the Jag (£33k) and then BMW (£37k). I've had test drives in the Alfa and the XE and will do one soon in the 440i. -
Ford ku - Gearbox replacement charge 27 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Apart from appalling customer service I have an issue with charges ford are trying to apply. In Feb this year I purchased an automatic 3yr old kuga with FSH and 17,500 miles on clock. Also purchased 3yr extended warranty. Six weeks ago whilst driving there was a huge bang under the car followed by rattling noise. Garage have said bolt has become loose which has caused irreparable damage to gearbox and gearbox casing. -
Any - Cheap Reliable People Carrier 16 Aug 2017 (Forum)
The first was a grey import diesel Lucida that blew its engine after a year and was sold for peanuts. After that they got a Galaxy automatic diesel on HP. Now after an expensive year (injectors and other issues after the relatively short warranty expired) it is another non-runner. The engine shakes more than the Austin Cambridge I owned forty years ago did after a plug lead fell off!
