  • WD40 - Is it OK to use on seizing brake link 21 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My son's brake linkage is seizing, is OK to use WD40 to initally free it if comes in contact with wheel cylinder rubbers etc. Then use PTFE type grease/oil for long term use as a prevention of seizing. Thanks Made (rather obscure) make/model non-specific

Drove my wife's Micra this morning for the first time in a few weeks. I think the brake pedal feels soft and has too much travel. Any thoughts before I let the dealer loose on it? Thanks.

  • Replacing brake discs on 2001 Punto JTD 15 Mar 2007 (Forum)
My front brake discs and pads need replacing on my 2001 Fiat Punto ELX JTD. I would like to tackle this job myself but was unsure as to how specialised this job is. Does anyone have experience of changing discs on this car??
  • Brake Pipes Micra 2000 6 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone give me an idea of the cost to replace brake pipes on a year 2000 Micra. I'm not sure which need replacing, i think its the rear ones. I am going to get an estimate from the garage but I have no idea of a cost to go on. A rough idea would be appreciated.
  • Rover 220SDi - brake lights blow fuse 31 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Pre MOT checks revealed that the brake lights were not working. (as well as the reveresing lights). Replacing the 10 amp fuse with similar blew. Due to time restraints, fitted a 15A fuse and normal operation restored although not a satisfactory outcome.
  • Megane handbrake 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hello I've just changed the brake shoes on my Megane and have noticed that the handbrake lever is coming up a long way before the brakes engage. Do I have to wait for the auto adjusters to kick in before I adjust the hand brake?
  • Puma - Vanishing Brake Fluid 8 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone offer some advice please. SWMBO runs a 2000 1.7 Puma. Recently it has taken to using up brake fluid. No sign of a leak anywhere. She took it to the Ford main dealer today & they have checked & can't find where it's going either. Any ideas ?
  • New Brake discs after 11000 miles ? 6 Apr 2006 (Forum)

  • Brake Squeal - Vauxhall Zafira 27 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I've developed a rear (drum) brake squeal on my 02 Zafira . Have taken the drum off and given everything it a good clean , but it persists. The shoe surfaces looked a bit shiny, could this be the cause - is it OK to rough up the surface with sandpaper?
  • Drilled & Grooved brake discs 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Shortly require replacement brake discs and pads for my Rover 25. I am thinking of 'upgrading' to drilled and grooved discs such as the Rossini items offered by Car Parts Direct, I would be interested to hear if any BR's have fitted these discs and if they do provide any benefit over OE discs.
  • Scenic thumping brakes 8 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Four times in last 2 days, my Scenic has made a thump/bang whilst braking at slow speeds whilst steering wheel was turned. Twice when reversing out driveway, and twice when I approached a left hand turning. What could cause this? It doesn't do it any other time.
  • Pug 106 Handbrake 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Does a Pug 106 Look 2 (98) automatic rear brake ( Bendix ) adjuster also deal with hand brake cable length, I get the impression it does not as they refer to hand brake cable adjustment ever 12K miles. If so is it the rear or front heat shield that has to come off.
  • Saxo brakes 4 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The disc brakes on my girlfriend's Saxo sound noisy when they are applied. They always sound as if the discs have a thick coating of rust and, at worst, they can sound as if a small stone is caught in the mechanism and rubbing against the disc.
  • 2005 Citroen C4 1.6 SX Automatic - Air noise and spongy brake pedal when pressed 11 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Hi All Wondering if someone can help me with an issue that has developed with my Citroen C4 since changing the rear brake pads. I thought it was going to be a relatively easy process to change the rear brake pads on my C4, like many other cars I’ve done in the past. I got to the point where the caliper piston had to be pushed back to allow space for the new pads, but realised they had to be rewound back in.
  • Toyota Prius - toyota prius - brake actuator fault 16 Feb 2017 (Forum)

  • Should my car have passed its MoT if the brake shoes are falling apart? 13 Feb 2017 (Ask HJ)
The garage I use doesn't have someone that does MoTs. So my garage took my car to a different garage and it passed. However, later that day it started...
  • Dogma 23 Mar 2015 (Forum)
This will result in excessive use of the brakes. Although brakes on automatics are larger than on their manual counterparts, ‘brake fade’ can still create a problem but manually locking a low ratio provides compression braking to enhance flexibility and braking control, particularly when towing a trailer/caravan.
  • Jaguar X-Type - Knocking noise from rear when braking 11 Jul 2012 (Forum)
However this noise is not present at all when driving without braking so I guess this must be some issue with the brakes. It is very strange as the car was fine before. The only thing I noticed when reversing the car out the drive was that it felt as though a brake was sticking when I tried to move it.
  • Left-foot braking 17 Jan 2011 (Ask HJ)
