What can I do to improve fuel economy without changing driving techniques? -
old chap and the road tax fine 18 Apr 2002 (Forum)
About time they scraped road tax anyway. The only fair system is to tax actual usage of both raod and fuel? The more you use the more you pay. Put road tax on fuel please Gordon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alex -
Why waste money on Diesels? 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone explain why a vast ammount of money is spent on developing 'cleaner' diesels, and trying to get them to the same level in refinement as petrols, when this money could be spent on more eco-friendly (hatefull noun I know) such as dual fuel cars, hydrogen fuel cells? As far as I know, Diesels are still very polluting, PM10 particles or somethink, yet these seem to being promoted as the future. How come? Kev -
Ford Mondeo - LPG? Forget it! 19 Sep 2013 (Forum)
So, including the conversion, I've added about £5,000 to the cost of covering 40,000 miles, not counting the aggravation, loss of performance and poor fuel economy. My projected fuel cost for the period would have been £6,750 at today's pump prices had I not done the conversion. My fuel cost at today's prices running on gas are about £4,500. -
4 diif makes - Electric car range 4 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Hello One and All, I hope all is well with you, I have just watched a video with Mat Watson who has driven 4 cars ( himself plus 3 others ) until they stop, average range was about 288-324 miles, Claimed range was 72-82%. It came to light while watching this that the fuel cover on 1 of the cars was electronically operated, and with zero power he had no way of getting it open to be able to charge the car up. While you would never run a car until it stop, and to be honest they all had fair warning from the car to find a charging point, it never occurred to me that this would be an issue, I also question why they would do it in the first place since the whole point of having a secure cover on the fuel tank is to prevent people from stealing fuel from your car. -
"Fuel poverty" 3 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Item on the TV news last night saying 100,000 people in the region were in "fuel poverty". I don't dispute that some find it hard to heat their houses to the temperature they would like, but these days I think expectations in this regard, as in many others, can be unrealistic. -
Developments 20 Mar 2017 (Forum)
There is a very interesting article in the IEEE Spectrum magazine about the future of hydrogen fuel cells as applied to motor vehicles. The author is based in California, where the authorities take pollution seriously and support the motor industry in its attempts to solve the problems. It seems that you can buy or lease several models of cars that are fuel cell driven, made by leading manufacturers including Honda, Hyundai and Toyota. -
Peugeot 307 SW - 1.6 petrol - won't start 22 Dec 2016 (Forum)
After finishing that I ran the engine for a few minutes, since then i didn't try to start it until this morning (2 days later). I used to have an Astra where if you parked it on a slope when the fuel was near empty the fuel would flow away from the pump and it wouldn't start. Could something similar be happening here? The car is on level ground with 1\2 a tank full though. Or could I have disturbed something while working on the exhaust? -
Citroen C5 - Diesel stalls when slowing to a stop or idling 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
It's been in to the garage 3 times, and we've had the AA once - we've spent almost £3,000 so far (!!!) and the fault is still there. So far: Garage 1, Visit 1: fitted 4 new fuel injectors and serviced the car. Two days later, an engine warning light came on and the car started stalling again. Garage 1, Visit 2: replaced the EGR valve and checked the engine fuel recycling system. -
berlingo 2.0 hdi 2004 - intermittent fault. 2 Apr 2016 (Forum)
one mechanic said 'might need new fuel pump' whic i doubt as it runs so well. i also doubt a fault in the fuel regulator as it runs so well at all speeds. -
2007 ford ranger 3.0 diesel auto - Fird ranger Cuts out and will not rev by 2000 rpm 9 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Had this vehicle 5 years and it has always been sensitive to fuel filters. It will cut out but always restart immediately then run for another few miles before it happens again, this can also happen going around left hand sharp bends. It also only runs properly if the fuel filler cap is not tightened fully, always assumed the breather is blocked but not a major issue. -
mpg - who is to blame? 4 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The Consumers’ Association (Which?) seem to have taken a stance on car fuel consumption and emissions. In articles, campaigns and petitions the implication seems to be that the difference between “claimed” figures and “real life” values is down to car manufacturers . -
mondeo tdci - compensation 11 May 2014 (Forum)
so they done a bleed off test which revealed 3 faulty injectors after they quoted £200. per injector plus fitting i asked if i could source my own recon injectors this was ok with garage i sourced recons which garage fitted the car then failed to start they said recon injectors were faulty so they were returned to supplier they have said that the fuel in injectors had metallic contamination so warranty was void they say that fitter should of carried out a fuel test before saying i needed injectors? the garage say that they did carry out fuel test & no contamination found the supplier has now said as a act of goodwill they will repair contaminated injectors free of charge but will not accept any returns if contamination issue is not solved the garage now has the recon injectors back from supplier i visited the garage again 10/05/14 to find that the car is still not repaired they say they have not fitted recon injectors because they have now found metallic particles in fuel tank ? -
Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.5 dci (80) Fuel pump 8 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I thought that it would be adviseable to let all the megane/renault drivers on here know that there is a problem with the high pressure fuel pump with renault. I have recently had problems starting my 54 Plate megane and took it into the dealers last week thinking that the injectors were clogged up or something. I received a call back later that day that kind of shook me up..... -
BMW 3-Series E91 Touring (2005 - ) - Realistic fuel consumption for 318i 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
One factor that may actually make the maths even more favorable is that in moving from a diesel to a petrol I benefit from the increasing difference in cost between the two fuels and the fact that for my business miles I will be able to claim 3p a mile more. All this assumes that the BMW Efficient Dynamics really do make the fuel consumption of the 318i only about 10% worse than my Diesel Focus in the real world. -
ford mondeo - Another dodgy mondeo tdci, wont start 24 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I just took a 2003 Mondeo tdci, 130bhp model in p/ex. It came as a non runner (kind of) with 2 sets of injectors and 2 HP fuel pumps. the car would tow off and run fairly smooth at low revs, anything over 2500 rpm and it would cut out and need towing / bumping again. Immediate thoughts are fueling issues. I sent both pumps and all injectors to a well respected bosch and delphi diesel specialist.
