Avis Car Hire in France & Fines 13 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Afternoon all. A friend told me that this might be a good place to seek advice or opinions. I was in France for a few days last month and hired a car. No problems driving it. All went well. I received a letter today saying that Avis had "been notified of several fines of charges imposed during your use of the rental vehicle". -
Moving House to France 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Need a bit of help please. Have to move contents for a three bedroomed house from just outside Swindon to South west France, and I wonder if anyone in the haulage trade can answer me some questions. Firstly I have approx 24 cubic metres of stuff - according to some spreadhseet I downloaded yesterday, thus I'm going to need a bigger van than a LWB sprinter (capacity 13 cubic metres), what's the biggest van I can hire on a car licence (I've been told 7.5 tonne box van) and if so anybody got any idea of their loading capacity? -
Mercedes CLK 03 - Fuel contamination 19 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Returning from a trip to France, we filled up with fuel at the BP garage in Reims. Just as we left the ferry in Dover masses of whitish/grey smoke bellowed out. We limped home at 40mph unable to accelerate as this seemed to cause the smoke to belch out. -
Renault Espace - Failed repair to alternator 14 Apr 2012 (Forum)
They said the alternator was broken and agreed to repair it for £380. I told them i needed car asap as I was taking family holiday in France next week. They fixed problem and I set off to France. As we were travelling in France, (before we had even reached our destination) only 3 days after getting car back, the same light appeared. -
petrol - a difference? 3 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Just got my Saturday Telegraph here in SW France and I see, once again, HJ is warning against using supermarket petrol. Can I recount my personal experience? Before I moved to France I ran a Honda Legend in the UK and always used Esso or Shell 95 unleaded - convenient and cost no more than at the supermarket. -

Beige box mystery 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Although the number of scameras is increasing in France by the week I don't think these are they, but I have seen similar beige plastic boxes sprout beside ordinary roads as well in the last few weeks. Does anyone have any idea what they might be for? -

Is E85 ethanol making a comeback? 10 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I remember Ford selling Focus dual fuel cars in France back in 2006. Never took off due to limited opportunities to refuel. I was surprised therefore at my local French supermarket, that the E5 98 octane choice on the pump had been removed for E85. -
Citroen C4 VTR+ HDi 5 door - Long high speed cruises, comfort and not too wide 5 May 2015 (Forum)
We have a 2007 Citroen C4 VTR+ HDi hatchback, and cover about 15,000 miles a year, but half of that is done in 13 hour high cruise speed motorway blasts to and from the south of France on autoroutes - 750 miles a day on 10 days each year. We need to replace it with a comfortable car with reasonable carrying volume and max width of 2000mm to go into a narrow village street. Automatic, cruise and speed control essential, and diesel preferred as it's much cheaper in France and likely to remain so. -
