  • Nissan X-trail DCI 2004 model - Used home made diesel... Need advice 11 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I changed the fuel filter and it improved. Now the vehicle goes in to limp mode when driving along at around 2000rpm. when driving at a higher rpm the vehicle runs fine. I attached a fault code reader and did a diagnostic test. The fault code that was returned was P1273 (Air / Fuel Ratio Sensor 1) The Xtrail also smokes when driving it along.
  • Medium size car with flat back entry???? 18 Oct 2010 (Forum)
He passed away last year and in 2010 both I and my Mom need to buy nearly new or new (me) and motability (Mom) cars. My Mom drives a small scooter which I currently get into the back of my Fiat Marea up a small ramp - very easy because it has a drop back and flat entry so I just drive the scooter into the back (riderless - i.e.
  • second drink driving offence 29 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I would appreciate some advice and help if anyone could offer...  I have been caught for a second time drink driving. The first time was april 2007 and my breath reading was 44, the second time was in march 2009 and breath reading was 54.  Could some one tell me what possible scenarios I face and what i'm likely to get as a sentence.
  • FIAT Grande Punto - Revoked licence 25 May 2010 (Forum)
Surely if one department thinks I am safe to work, but another does not think I am safe to drive its a poor show.  My suspicion is that it is the interpretation of the report that has lead to the misunderstanding.  In the meantime if I can not get to work (which I can't without driving) then I will lose my job.
  • Nissan Note / Mazda 3 - recommend - Nissan Note vs. Mazda 3 9 May 2010 (Forum)
Hence safety and motorway driving characterisitics may be inferior. 2) Nissan less reliable than Mazda, as per car reliability index stats. Mazda 3 Advantages:- 1) Larger car segment; Hence better safety and motorway driving charaterisitcs 2) Mazda more reliable than Nissan as per warrant direct stats.
  • Loss of Driving Licence 23 Mar 2010 (Forum)
approximately 3 years ago my driving licence was withheld by the DVLa due to me failing the visual field test @ a an optician. as i am a diabetic i had to do this test every 3 years. 2 years prior to the test i lost the sight in my left eye due to a detached retina not being 'replaced' in time. i now have a cataract on that eye but have perfect vision in my right eye when i wear glasses. i wear glasses for looking at the tv and when i am out and about.
  • Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 02 2.0 Anti Pollution Fault 29 Dec 2009 (Forum)
1st off hi to everyone, i've used this site a couple of times for info but thought now's the time to register and air a problem i've got. Driving normally the other week the engine light on the dash came and 'ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT" came on the display (fine weather). I've had no loss of power and everything seems fine when i drive, NO limp home mode, no loss of power etc.
  • Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Auto v Manual - running costs etc. 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
This isn't massive, but it isn't peanuts either. What is the actual reality of these mpg's? Is it actually quite difficult to drive a manual at the quoted mpg, and with normal driving actually get better mpg than quoted with the Auto? With my green hat on, the lower emissions, better mpg etc. is making me lean toward the manual despite preferring the auto...
  • Can people drive competently any more? 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I mean taking pride in good technique, mechanical sympathy, smooth predictable and swift progress by skill, observation/awareness and care alone. Just driving properly.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 1.8 Steering Noise 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Could there be a bearing (or something) that is 'sticking' but once freed-off is ok, until the next time the car has been standing for a period of time? Could the power steering pump be on its way out? Under normal driving conditions, the car steers and drives perfectly well with no unusual noises. The power steering fluid is at the maximum mark and I've not needed to top it up since I've had the car (bought it 3 months ago).
  • Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - Car Comfort 18 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I've recently changed an aged Polo for a much newer Ford Fusion. Things we like include a cavernous boot, an elevated driving position and excellent handling. It's also big enough to get everyone seated without too much rear seat elbow jostling and has a low insurance group: ideal for when the eldest of the offspring is allowed to learn to drive, perish the thought.
  • Turn those fog lights off! 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I reckon 1 in 3 cars where fitted drive along with their front or rear fogs on. Today was a classic example, visibility was miles yet people still have the flipping fog lights on. It is really really driving me insane now. Is this just ignorance or do people think it looks cool?

  • Dangerous Driving. 28 Dec 2007 (Forum)
M8 Glasgow going east bound just by the Glasgow royal cut off. Witnessed the most dangerous/stupid driving I have ever seen in my 20 odd years of driving. A white taxi and a blue ford focus are in the outside lane. From what I seen the taxi was not pulling in quick enough for the focus. So when the taxi driver pulled into the middle lane the other driver decided to pull up beside the taxi and give the 1 or it may have been the 2 fingered salute.
  • Two cars to choose from - what would you choose? 9 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I do a lot of miles, hence the diesel. A test drive of the mondeo was really too short to get a feel for the car. I had 10 minutes and was told by the dealer that if I wanted a longer drive I need to hire one! So, should I go for the sensible choice (Mondeo) or the less practical option?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Estate options for 5k 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Do the Zetecs have sportier suspension than the others, or is it just cosmetic? I'm reasonably happy I've made the right choice (ok, it might be an idea to drive one first), but any advice would be appreciated. And feel free to suggest alternatives, although SWMBO, who will be driving it most, does have some irrational absolute no-nos including Skodas and Nissans; sorry.
  • Still driving a badly damaged car....! 6 Aug 2007 (Forum)
can't imagine an 02 reg Corsa with that much damage AND a knackered head gasket or worse would be economic to repair......and her driving it around like that was bound to cause problems eventually......it was a warmish day in a big traffic jam. for the amount of damage potential driving a car with a knackered radiator, why not hire something cheap or as it's a city get public transport.
  • 98 Megane gearbox problems after floods 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I've got a 98 Megane 1.6e RT Sport, done 87,000 miles. On Monday was trying to drive to Sheffield from Manchester during the very heavy rains. Was driving through 2-3" of water on a flooded section of road. An HGV came the other way, and passed through the water at about 30mph. The resulting wave went over the roof of my car (and the cars in front and behind), rocking the car on its suspension.
  • Autoaid 16 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Evening all, Earlier on I had the pleasure of coming off the Polegate roundabout, going into 3rd, lifting clutch, and....nothing - no drive! The drive shaft on faithful car has broken :-( Straight on phone to Autoaid (my choice of breakdown cover) and within 20min recovery lorry turns up (not bad for a Sunday!), I tell him what's wrong so he doesn't waste time fixing it, loads up, and drives me back home to Brighton.
  • BMW E34 1992 test drive 6 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Once I had taken it for a test drive the steam had disappeared and there was no coolant warning when the car stopped. I am assuming this is just condensation and the car not having enough time to circulate the coolant as I think it had been stood for some time
