  • Mazda 6 2008 - Diesel Run-away - Air intake cut off 26 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, have not been on here for a while! I was just wondering that if a car, such as the Mazda 6 diesel 2008 2.0tdi was to run-away on its own fuel, by turning off the ignition - would it cause the run-away to stop? My main reason for asking specifically about this car, is that i need to know if it has an air intake valve which shuts off when the ignition is off....knowing one of the ways to stop an engine run-away is to starve it of air.
  • Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.6 How was it running at all? 20 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I've just replaced the Dizzy cap on a colleagues 216 16v as it was running like a bag of spanners. When I took the cap off, the carbon brush literally crumbled into dust & the main coil lead snapped clean off at the cap end (it had gone a mouldy green colour). I replaced the coil lead as the other 4 looked brand new and the car now starts first time and runs nicely now, but I am amazed how the car was even running in the first place!!

  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.6 8V runs as if choke is staying on too long 18 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Car runs as if the choke was staying on too long. If you don't keep the car running when started, if it cuts out then the spark plugs need changed. Parts already changed: temprature sensor, lambda sensor, cat & EGR valve.
  • Short runs - Petrol CVT or diesel manual. 26 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I know the Petrol/Diesel debate is ongoing but I see and hear conflicting advice which is best for short runs. As per the title, if the choice was between, say, a Jazz CVT and perhaps a Berlingo/Partner Escapade 1.6Hdi, what would you say? More concerned about maintenance issues rather than straight mpg on the short runs.
  • Bio Diesel 6 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Has any one got any info on this stuff. i am going to buy a diesel and was going to run it on this stuff. The mechanic said oh it will ruin your engine, over time. I have only run a car for two tankfuls and it ran perfectly. There is a supplier local to me, and a taxi driver who was running a PD tdi audi a6 said he was running on bio-diesel.
  • TDI Diesels - after a run 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
'm sure I read in HJ's column somewhere that I should leave my diesel engine running after a long run before switching off. Why is this necessary and why don't manufacturers warn buyers about it? My engine is a 2.5 TDI (102 bhp). Congratulations by the way on this site. I had a very quick and helpful responce to my previous queries....Bob
  • Anyone running on veg oil? 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
