  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 95 1171 Turns over but will not start 5 Sep 2009 (Forum)
This forced me to do some elementary diagnostics today, with a happy result at least of getting it lit up again, albeit no root cause yet! When it will not start, there is spark @ plugs, but no smell of fuel. I have re-seated all of the fuel injection electrical connectors I can find, including what I think are the fuel pump relays in a box between the battery and the nearside strut top, all to no avail.
  • MG MG ZT (2001 - 2005) - 03 2.0 (135)fuel lift pump 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
By this time beginning to loose all faith in the car but felt unable to change it due to the Rover bankruptcy and the huge loss we could ill afford to incur.Since then we have had another loss of power at high speed in the outside lane of the M25, rescued, another episode whilst towing a caravan, middle lane of the M25,each time taken to main dealers in the local area by breakdown company and supposedly repaired either by fitting new fuel lifter pump.Had all work done last year in france again when it failed again after running perfectly for 12 months. Ran for 12 months and has now done the same thing and needs another pump we have been told.We have done 34000 miles and wonder if this really is a fuel pump problem or could it be electronic/electrical.
  • Budget speech relating to cars 25 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Instead of just 300,000 motorists paying £100a year or less, 3 million will now pay £100 or less. To further reduce carbon emissions, 5pc of fuel will be made from bio-fuels by 2010. And I can announce new support and incentives that will, with the 20p duty differential, by 2008, be worth up to a 35p per litre. It is our policy that each year fuel duties should rise at least in line with inflation, as we seek to meet our targets for reducing emissions and to fund our public services.
  • Fiesta 1.416v Zetec Won't Start 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Then I was driving along and the engine lost power and cut out-I haven't been able to get the engine to restart since then. It will turn over freely on the key and I can hear the fuel pump spool up to pressurise the fuel system when the ignition is switched on but it will not start. Doesn't sound like any mechanical nastiness from within the engine. I've looked at the exhaust (albeit not very closely) but it seems intact enough along it's length, it's 18mnths old.
  • Fiesta Fuel Gauge Fun! 19 Sep 2003 (Forum)
So somehow, despite me actually getting largely the same economy as normal, worked out according to the tried and trusted method, my fuel gauge showed a much thirstier story. As I drove away, I noticed that the last bar on the fuel gauge that indicates a full tank was not lit up, after about 5 miles of driving (one journey) I looked again and now the gauge showed a full tank.
  • Renault Clio - Changing the Fuel Filter 5 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I need to change my fuel filter on my Clio, Its now 7 years old and i am unsure if the filter has been changed or not , It was supposed to have been changed during its last service, But the garage ran out of time and only did a small service due to the car needing work done for its MOT.
  • Petrol in Diesel 11 May 2022 (Forum)
I got the call as he started to worry when he got home and is wondering whether to have his fuel system drained. With my limited knowledge, IF, there's any damage done it's probably done given that the wrong fuel will have been pumped around the engine but can any suitably qualified folks give a definitive (and pragmatic) answer as to whether he needs to go with the fuel drain or whether it's such a small amount that there's nothing to fret about?
  • Toyota Aygo 2014 1.0L - High Fuel consumption after service 22 Oct 2021 (Forum)
My commute to work is 20 miles. Normally, from Monday to Friday, with a full tank, I use up 3 bars worth of fuel. After the service yesterday however, I used up 2 bars on the way home - and another 2 bars on the way in to work this morning! There's no smell of petrol and the car drives smoothly. My first reaction is to take it straight back to the garage.
  • Honda CRV - Your thoughts on a test drive issue. 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
At the weekend I test drove a honda CRV diesel on a 16 plate low mileage, it was low on fuel with the light on with 2 mile on the trip computer so we went to get diesel but before we could put fuel in the limp home mode symbol came on but I didn't know what it was so when I drive away I quickly found out and had no power so we went back the the carstore had a chat and walked away but I have now had a phone call saying on there diagnostic equipment it said low fuel pressure and that they have put a new battery on aswell ,when I asked why the new battery the sales guy wasn't to sure but he will see if he can get a report explaining things a little better.

  • MG ZS 2017 10000 miles - 10 months update and comfort. 22 Sep 2019 (Forum)

  • VW Golf MK4 110bhp TDi - Possible air in fuel system TDi Golf 26 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Hi all, I let my Golf TDi MK4 TDi 110bhp (AFN code I think) run out of diesel and it hasnt been the same since. I topped it up with fuel and the car struggled to start but it did eventually. However now when the accerlator is pressed down the revs go up very slowly?? I have tried to get air out of the system using an extractor pump but it still dosent feel like it did before so can only assume there is still some air in the system.

  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 02 2.0TDi fuel injector pump / control unit faulty 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
2002 Zafira 2.0 dti - vauxhall have diagnosed main fuel injector pump / control unit needs replacing. Is there any alternative to using vauxhall main dealer for this? can find supplier of replacement unit but local garage advises could fit but would need vauxhall official dealer to programme the unit and probably the immobiliser also.
  • Hyundai Tucson 2005 CRTD CDX - Engine misfiring 9 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The French garage tried changing the injectors with no improvement and stated that they had checked the fuel line (first thought was dodgy fuel), still the same. It's now back in the UK and my garage are trying to find the fault, the injectors are ok the fuel line clean, high pressure pump very slightly low on pressure but not by much.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - 2007 1.7CDTI unrealistic fuel economy. 14 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Just bought an 07 plate corsa 1.7cdti and so far been unimpressed with fuel economy. Used to have old style 1.2 petrol corsa which gave a range of approx. 400 miles to a tank. New corsa, diesel!, is averaging 440 tops, way short of the 582 quoted in the press figures etc.

  • Ford Escort 1.8 diesel - Diesel fuel tank vacuum 17 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi, some of you may remember I had a fuel supply issue which was fixed with the addition of a one way valve stopping back draining probably due to an air leak in the non Ford primer pump/filter assembly. Just recently, I've been having a few starting problems and noticed a large inrush of air when removing the filler cap, so obviously a vacuum is being set up.
