  Today I went to clean the terminals on my battery as I was having trouble starting and I knew that dirt was causing it, so I undid positve/neg terminals and cleaned. Trouble is getting the nuts back on proved difficult as I didn't realise you had to take off the larger nut which connects the whole terminal plastic thing to the battery, I provide pic as I don;t know what its called!

        Hi Guys, -SOLVED- Got a 2013 Alto with a problem whereby something's completely draining the battery. I took it out and charged it back up but can't find anything obvious that'd be draining the battery the only symptom it has it when you open the door with the keys in the ignition the standard door ajar alarm goes off (the beep, beep, beep) one, but when you take the keys out of the ignition - which would normally turn off the door ajar alarm - the alarm changes to a continuous tone alarm, although the same door ajar warning light is on on the dash.

  This morning the car had all its indicators going and a flat battery (18 months old) I'm guessing the alarm was triggered for whatever reason and as its not that noisey we didn't hear it. Consequently the indicators keep flashing and flatten the battery.

The battery is around five years old but the garage says it tests as being OK.   Hi Everyone i have a bmw 3 series 318i reg 2002 and have had a few problems with it in the last 3-4 months. i cover 30miles each way to work and on each journey usually when accelerating independent of whether its in a low or high gear the battery light flickers on for a split second accompanied by a jerk. i had it checked by an independent garage and was told that this was related to the alternator thus that was changed the problem continued and got worse after 4-5 weeks until 2 weeks ago when the engine management light came on and the power was reduced. 4 ignition coils and spark plugs were change. unfortunately this split second flickering of the battery continues. i have no problem starting the car does anyone have any bright ideas about this problem?????

  This has been intermittent for several months, but not noticeable till the winter. Engine has been slow to start for last couple of winters, and now really bad.   I've an annoying problem with my Focus, and I'd be amazed if it hasn't occurred many times before. Whenever I leave the car for more than about 2 weeks, the battery drains to such an extent that I have to jump start it. The battery is only about 4 months old, and I've had this tested and it's fine. I've carried out a current drain test, and with the ignition off and all doors closed, there is approx 250 milliamps being drawn.

  Once as well whilst driving the battery light, handbrake light,abs light all where flashing at the same time and also all the dials (speedo , rev counter, fual and temp gauge) would turn off and come on again after about 3 secs.   I have noticed this over the last 2 weeks with it been cold, I ran the car to the supermarket & back then left it for 3 hrs and tested the battery, the voltage was at 11.93v and started it up it's charging ok at around 14.44. This is not a maintennance free battery so removed the caps and plenty of electrolite is present above the plates, but the green light is non existent?

  Following on from my sluggish battery thread I have found the possible cause for this. On saturday morning I stopped car after a drive and the engine was not near 70c but rad fan was on. Didnt think much of this so came out to car after 2 or 3 hours and battery was flat as a very flat thing.

  Right ive just bought a 03 mondeo tdci 115bhp and at first everything was ok. Yesterday driving home the battery warning light came on and now comes on about 30 seconds after the car is started. I had the battery and alternator checked at a garage and they are both working and giving sufficient charge. When we had a look at the alternator it is clear that it is a new one and been installed recently.

  A friend recently purchased a J reg 5 door citroen AX tzx 1.4 for £300 with only 66k on the clock. Alternator died, so he has had fitted a new alternator and battery by his brother. Since then the battery warning light stays on all the time - but the car has been used everyday without fault for the past month. What could be causing the light to stay on? the car has no problems whatsoever and starts on the button everytime.
