  • Pay under warranty ? Mazda misfire 26 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Is this true ? Also, any idea as to what it could be ? (HT leads ? spark-plugs ? the car's just under 3 yrs old and has only covered 25,000 miles)
  • Is there a Mazda 6 clutch issue 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, Someone I know has a 10,000 mile, 1 year old Mazda 6 diesel which has worn out its clutch. Is this a known problem with this car? He has taken other cars to the 100,000mile mark before without the need for a new clutch, so it doesn't appear the problem is down to him, though you never know.
  • Auctions vs. car supermarkets 27 Dec 2004 (Forum)
It has been decreed that new car time is rapidly approaching, so I am trying to find the best place to buy a three-ish year old Picasso. Ten years ago there was a definite price advantage in favour of the auctions (taking into account risk, no test drives, hassle etc) but now I get the impression that the big sites are pretty close on prices - are auctions worth bothering with for the private buyer?
  • Another number plate query 30 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I was wondering if someone could explain something to me. The plate on my old Mini is pretty good (sad I know, but its one of the reasons why I bought the car) but the car is getting on and may get to a point in the future where I decide to sell it. However, I would be interested to know if there is anyway I can keep the plate even if I sell the car on, and then pop it onto any replacement vehicle I buy.
  • Ford Direct. Prices negotiable? 29 May 2004 (Forum)
I am looking at a 12 month old Mondeo Ghia TDCi 130, and ford direct seems pretty cheap (£12164 for the hatchback). I understand negotiating for a new car, as its easy to check discounts via brokers or what car mag. The used market seems a bit less transparent in this regard.
  • Going like stink 24 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Currently in the process of changing car, from my zippy, handles like it's on rails, but frankly slow Fiat Punto Sporting. I'm after a marginally bigger 3 door hatch, much quicker, couldn't really give a stuff about image, 3-4 years old car for about £8000.
  • Milly Dowler Car Search. 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
It seems likely that some Backroomers might have information regarding the distorted picture the police have of a car that may be important in the search for the killer of Milly. The old thread was getting a bit large so I'm starting a new one here. More info can be found here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/index.htm?
  • Nokia Mobile phone car kits 4 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Can somebody point me in the right direction here? I just bought a car with all the mobile phone fittings except the 'black box'. It's for a different phone than mine (7110 I think), but I can get an old phone and switch SIMs to use it. I think I have found the connector, but I need to be sure I have the right thing before hunting out the right box.
  • Car Importing 12 May 2002 (Forum)
It has a Cat, so that at least should be ok. Also, can someone recommend an insurer for American Cars. I´m old, so I am not expecting it to be too big a problem.

  • Faults with cars just out of warranty 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, A friend of mine bought a nearly new car from a well known franchised dealer networks approved used scheme about 2 years ago - it was about a year old at the time. The warranty on this vehicle expired a few months ago (2-3), and recently the car developed a fault with the ECU.
  • Considering buying a car cover 17 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Hi - I have a VW Corrado in flash red, now thirteen years old, and no matter how much I polish it, within a couple of weeks the top panels are a completely different colour from the rest of the car. I am now considering buying a car cover. If any backroomers have any good or bad experiences with these or any recommendations please let me know.

Is it worth it? or is there another car that would be better in terms of cheaper running costs.  (I need a family sized car due to having to small children)
  • Nissan Note - smelly car 20 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I have never owned a diesel car, so I was wondering if this is normal? Does it happen if the car has been stood for a while? (at a garage forecourt for example) Or is it a bad sign? Thanks
  • Toyota Yaris D-4D - Small turbo diesel cars 4 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I'm researching buying my next used car (10 years old) and am interested in the range of small turbo diesel engines about such as the Yaris, Clio, Fiesta, Corsa, Astra etc. I have only owned petrol engines before and these cars are very inviting with their £30 tax and high MPGs.

  • House price vs car price 9 Nov 2007 (Forum)
They think of their children's future and thus invest on houses. Yet, driving a 15-yr old banger on motorways at 90 mph is even more dangerous for their children! Why there is so much public apathy towards cars?
  • Car insurance - paying monthly? 18 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I always pay my car insurance annually, but my poverty-stricken son is taking on the old family Fiesta. He wants to pay his insurance premium monthly - which could prove useful if the car fails its MoT test in the summer and he cannot afford to continue with it.
  • Top Gear Magazine - What on Earth 7 Feb 2004 (Forum)
...have they done to it ? Now two sections with one dedicated to super cars and yank junk with just a small section two dedicated to normal cars at normal prices. Clarkson gets less funny by the month and the new car guide comments are as old as the hills. Absolute garbage and subscription cancelled forthwith.
